Initial DVC Worries that have turned into Positives

When we were first considering DVC, we thought the limited mousekeeping might be difficult to adapt to.

However, we've found it to be just the opposite. One of the things that we really love and has been a big positive for us is the limited mousekeeping.

Now we don't have to worry about mousekeeping repeatedly knocking on our door if we get a late start, or worrying whether we will be interrupting them or being interrupted, if we want to get back into the room for the kids to nap, or prepare a quick snack or meal, change for a swim, or if we forget something.

In fact, it actually makes our stay feel more like a home away from home.

Anyone else have any DVC worries that actually turned into positives? :)

I was very worried on our 3rd DVC trip about not having a washer/dryer in our studio. Our previous stays had been in 1 BR.

It was really no problem using the laundry room at the BWV and it gave us an excuse to program some downtime into our schedule.

I was concerned about buying an OCT UY - when we had determined our need for DEC. Our Guide forced the OCT -- and we are now thankful he did.

The OCT UY will allow us to enjoy F&W in the years to come ... once our regularly scheduled January trek comes to an (eventual) end. While DEC would have been a good choice for our near-term plans (next 5 years or so) the OCT UY will be better for the long haul.

(Thanks, Jeff!)

I have limited housekeeping at home, so it was really no big deal to me.

Yea, I think the same thing. I don't wash my towels and bedsheets every day at home, why do I need to when on vacation? I just hang the towels on the rack, just like at home. No problem. Trash sometimes piles up a little, but you can always take it out yourself on the way out.

Wow...I hope Mrs JIMMIA doesn't read these boards!! :rotfl2:

I can say that I thought there were any negatives really except I figured we would never like any other DVC resort as we do our VWL. We were very pleasantly surprised when we "sampled" BWV to find that we enjoyed that immensely too though in a completely different way. So we bought a resale there. :thumbsup2

I thought buying SSR would be a problem, since it is so spread out. We now love the fact that it is spread out because the grounds are beautiful to walk and it is so quiet and peaceful. :cool1:

P.S. Great idea for a thread, turning negatives into positives is what Disney is all about!!! :thumbsup2

My intial worry was getting burned out with WDW trips. Well, now with the addition of VB and a growing love of WDW, that has not happened at all. We still love our trips.

Now this won't happen but I'd love to see another off site resort in a location like Hawaii, oceanfront. A man can dream, right. :rotfl:

With all the "but where you want to stay" talk that made it seem like you could only realistically stay at one resort once you bought in, I was worried about the 7 month-window. I've gotten every request - even the ones that seemed potentially difficult) so far (although I do always call right at 7 months).

The Cost

It took us six years to pull the trigger on DVC. We talked to someone on our first trip together back in 2000. We should have done it then...we are glad we did it now!

We were afraid that we couldn't afford it. After going over to SSR and discussing it with the folks, we found we were paying more a year for our trips that we would for the DVC and we could get more time for each trip with it. With the DDP and the Annual Pass savings, it's even better. I was definatly happy with our choice.

We had that exact same one. One of the big reasons we didn't buy earlier was the "fear" of giving up daily housekeeping (unless we paid extra). When we finally bought, it was "in spite of" the lack of daily housekeeping and we figured it was just something we had to tolerate. But it only took one trip to figure how we not only didn't mind, we loved not having someone come into OUR place while we were out. Matter of fact, on my next, non-DVC trip, up to Sturbridge, MA, I specifically asked at the hotel for NO daily maid service. They gave me such strange looks-I'm sure they thought I was trying to hide something illegal. ::cop: I'll bet they "snuck" into my room anyways, just to see what I was hiding.

I agree, Hawaii!! It took a long time for us, as well. I am really glad we did!!

I had this exact same concern, I wasn't sure I could swallow this aspect of DVC but the rapidly increasing rack rates at the regular resorts made me come around in a hurry. We just completed our first trip home in October and I have to say that it really didn't bother me at all. I haven't swung around to where I actually like not having daily housekeeping but I can tolerate it at least.

My only other DVC worry is the fact that it's just over in 2042. Unfortunately, I don't think that one is going to swing around to anything positive.
