We would like to put in a pool. We have 4 acres of land so space isn't an issue - our main issue is that we want it as close to the house as possible. Unfortunately the leech(sp?) field and septic tanks are in the only really appropriate area behind our house - closer to the house the land is sloped - farther away means ripping down trees and having the pool a good 50 feet away from teh house which is inconvenient(and since its' HEAVILY wooded even with ripping down trees to maake way for a pool we'd have a constant leaf battle going on)

Here's an old picture of the back of our house

The side of the house you see by the propane tank is now an addition so we cannot do anything there either. What we WANT to do is somehow do an above ground or inground RIGHT off of the deck somehow - we'd like to remove the stair case, have another deck built a step or two down right there and somehow have the pool in that deck - is that making any sense??

Does anybody have a setup liek this - or has anybody dealt with uneven ground like we have?

All that would need to be done is a retaining wall, then the ground will be flat.

My neighbors did that with an inground pool and it looks lovely. Its well landscaped and they used nice block

Can you get a picture??? :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

"Excuse me - some strange person on the internet wants me to take a picture of your pool - You don't mind do you??" :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

How did they do an inground - did the build up the land then dig the hole?

It's so hard because I know EXACTLY what I want I just don't know if I can do it - last summer we had 5 pool companies come out and all they wanted to do was go in the woods and rip down trees- that's NOT what I want - if I have to drag my 3 kids, towels and sunscreen and walk across my deck, down a flight of stairs - walk across my lawn and saunter into the woods before I get to my pool ....... then I don't want a pool! :rotfl2:

My uncle has the same set-up with an above ground pool.

It looks like and underground because it's in the deck. They built a small wall out of railroad ties to help with runoff but other then that they just dug some and filled the other until it was level.

It looks great and is very functional .

Sorry I don't have any pics and am not sure when we will be going up again.

AH HAAAA! I KNEW this could be done!!! YES- that's what I want - I don't care if it's "inground" or above ground as long as it's right off of my deck and has the ease of an inground pool!!

THANK YOU!!!

We have land sloping away from our house and did the same thing. From the deck side, you literally step down into the pool. Be prepared for a lot of dirt moving on your property!

Got any pictures??? LOL - I really just want to see how everybody managed this so I can explain it better when we go for a quote

They even have the ladder attached to the deck so it's not touching the pool at all .So it can't damage the liner.

You may have to have some one else build the retaining wall for you. Maybe thats why the pool people wanted to put you in the woods

As far as seeing a picture, I just did a google search for retaining walls and pools. You can get a good idea from that.

Sorry I dont know how to post the pictures myself :)

I know what I would do! A negative edge pool! You have the perfect lot for it!!!!

one reason the pool companies wanted to put it in the woods was likely the levelness of the area, i know most above ground pools have installation included ion the price and the more level the starting site the less work involved,,, our deck is built up around our above ground and its nice,, in your case you could dig the above ground partially in on the high side, use that dirt to fill around it on the low end with a retaining wall, and then build deck around the rim of the above ground,, for an in ground on that slope they will have to build a more reinforced retainer wall, and it will be more expensive.

this is ours from the deck side,,

Our pool is that way. The land on one side is higher than the other. The pool people just dug and graded the land and then set up the pool. We had to add a 2nd portion to our deck but it looks nice. They didn't have to take down any trees. I did have to move my clothes line though. Yes we do get leaves and a few rodents in our pool every year as they fall out of the tree. Last year I think we had 3 total that died - this all happens after we uncover the pool for the summer.

We had a pool like you describe for years. I'll see if I can pull up some pics on my other computer. Itwas 20X40 with a 9 ft. Deep end w/ diving board on the sloped end that was partially dug into the ground and had 4 ft. wide entry steps so you walked down right from the ground level deck. It was 28,000 gallons. It held up for around 16 years then we moved. Insurance was much cheaper because it is technically considered above ground, not permanent.

Like this but rectangular and the same company built it, Olympic. We also had rails. on 3 sides.

That's gorgeous! Do you remember approximately how much it cost, all totaled?

Right around $10,000 for the everything then we expanded the deck and they only include about 3 foot decking on all sides so we went with the slanted pattern. They used lattice with a frame for the rail and we changed it to vertical rail after about 10 years and added any automatic chlorinator so you only added chemicals once a month so thos two changes weren't included so we added another $5000 to the price over the years.
