IS there a way to get ingredients for kids menu items ahead of time so we know what is going to be safe for my DD to eat at the different restaraunts?
I am trying to figure out if I am going to need to spend the extra money to find a hotel room that has a kitchenette or if we will be able to buy a dinner plan.

If you look in post #3 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread, one of the resources there is some contact information for special diets at WDW. The disABILITIES FAQs thread is toward the top of this board or you can follow the link in my signature to get there. In post #3, you will also find links to menu pages from wdwinfo.com and allearsnet.com so you can get an idea of the types of menu items you will find.

When you email them, they can send you a list of foods that would be safe/unsafe for those allergies. The counter service restaurants have ingredient books you can look at if you need to. For the table service restaurants/buffets, the chef will come to your table to talk to you about the different foods.

WOW it sounds to good to be true that WDW is that easy to work with. I will be thrilled if she will be able to participate in the character dining while enjoying food other then a packed lunch at the dinner table.

I just checked out the FAQ thread and can I just say you have done an amazing job at gathering up all this information. IT is incredible!!!! I am so relieved to see all my questions and concerns laid out right before me. Thank you so much for taking the time to gather it all up into one location.:banana:

Thanks for the thanks.

It has been a continuing about 6 year process.

And thanks for people asking questions. Many of the ideas of what should go o
to the FAQs have come from poster's questions.

What are your DDs allergies? We just went in Feb with my DS who is milk, egg, and nut allergic. We had a fabulous time. There is no other place on earth like Disney World for handling food allergies.

WDW is truly amazing with food allergies! That is one of the reasons we have gone so often to WDW or DCL. I have 2 DS will life threatening allergies to ALL NUTS, annatto, sunflower seed and lentils.

On our first trip in 2000, Disney was good with allergies. But I have seem them improve over time. On our last trip in DEC 2009 every counter and cart was supposes that have an ingredients list. I found this to be true in most cases. I think there was only one that didn't...but I was able to ask if they had a label on a box and they did.

My DS are now 12 &14. They want to have a little more independance. At WDW, I feel I can give them this. We would let them go off on their own and even have lunch alone. This is something I would never allow in the "real world".

My DD is allergic to soy (all forms oil and lecithan), xantham gum, and cellulose gum.

We typically don't eat out at all because there is no where for her to eat with the exception of a couple places. I am trying to get her to fall in love with salad but for a four year old that is a lot to ask.

I am excited DW is so accommodating I just hope I don't get my hopes up too much because her allergies are not exactly the norm.:sad2:

This past December for her birthday we were going to take her to sea world SD at dine with shamu. I called ahead listed her allergies they said "no problem" they could accommodate her allergies. Then 2 months after our reservations had been made, and 24 hours before are dine they called and said never mind we can't do it.:furious:
This is my big fear is going out for the day planning on her being able to eat out only to realize they actually can't help us.
I just want to do all my research and get a without a doubt yes before telling her she gets to eat with a character.

I would focus on table service places. The chef will come out and speak with you personally and since they're generally preparing the food from raw ingredients there is a lot they can do.

You may want to ask Brenda Bennet specifically what the ingredients are in the top 8 free chicken strips. They are available at several places, but I don't if they would contain the gums. If they're safe, they would make a great go to food. The turkey legs might be safe. I don't deal with your allergies, but I seem to recall them having very few ingredients. If you want to do a breakfast buffet (like Chef Mickey's) I would speak with a chef ahead of time and check on the allergy-friendly mickey waffles. They are gluten free, dairy free, egg free, and I think soy free. My understanding is that they have a mix (I thought I heard it was a Bob's Red Mill mix), that they mix with apple juice, and use a dedicated waffle iron. If that is safe then you could make a nice meal of a waffle, some fruit, and maybe bacon. Liberty Tree Tavern was able to serve my DS some of the meats they serve, a mashed potato dish they make for people with allergies, and a gravy that he described as being made from the beef drippings and corn starch. Either way, the chefs do a lot to find something that will work.
