i really should stop reading threads on here- just saw on someones post that its possible to get 2 nites for free in March 2011- which now has me pricing up and wondering- SSSHHH dont tell the hubby!:rotfl:

Ive found a deal and price that im happy with, but i have never been at this time of year so have a couple of questions

*) are the celebrations/fireworks/irish mickey and minnie just on the actaul day of saint patricks day or is it a week long celebration

*) what actually are the added irish bits- is it like halloween and the whole park is themed?

*) just how cold is the park in March?? we went in november last year in snowsuits-is it colder?

*) does the park get very crowded?

sorry for all the questions, i need as much info as possible to present this to hubby as a great idea!

I've also booked for St Patricks Day 2011 with the 2 nights free offer - first time for me , but the celebrations are only on 17th March itself, the park is as normal before and after this date.

You were wearing snowsuits in November? Blimey I've been in November, December and February and didn't find it cold enough for anything more than a thermal layer, normal clothes, boots, gloves, scarf a hat and coat. I'd pack for similar weather though (ie Winter rather than Spring).

mommy2ash was there this year for St Patricks Day - have you seen her trip report :) ?

Hello there!!

I'm not too sure about all the events either but from what I've gathered they're all going to be on St. Patrick's Day itself - definately the fireworks are anyways!

It will be my first time over there in March also so it shall be interesting - mommy2ash has been for that week too before and she said it did get a bit busy - but from all of her fabulous photos and videos she had an amazing time!

Just so you know, re. the 2nights free offer - it is valid from NOW until the end of March 2011 - so if you wanted to squeeze a trip in earlier, or later, you can! I am still itching for Christmas time... hehe... Everyone's posts about being there for the Christmas period have made me jealous and want to be there then too!! :rotfl:

thanks for that- i have just read mommie2ash report. when i say we were wearing snowsuits- i mean the kids were!

so so tempted, especially as the sequioa isnt much more than the cheyenne! that may help sway the hubby!!

ooh dont tell me thats its on offer that long- i will play with dates and prices for ages!!

were already going in october for the halloween celebrations- really looking forward to that. we went during christmas celebrations last year, we had a great time- though i think im in the minority, in my opinion it wasnt as good as i had expected it to be

The 2 free nights/days offer is as follows -

"In the brochure and on the website this is what it states.....

Book a 3, 4 or a 5 day break in one of the 7 Disney Hotels and get 2 more days to explore the Disney® Parks plus 2 more nights including breakfast - absolutely free.
If you book by 30th September 2010 for arrivals from Saturday to Tuesday, between 9th November to 21st December 2010, 4th January to 8th February 2011 and 12th to 29th March 2011 inclusive
"

I'd ignore the bit about arrivals from Saturday to Tuesday though, as we're arriving on a Thursday, and still got the 2 free days/nights at the Santa Fe ;)

Snap! I'll be there in October for the Halloween Celebrations too! I LOVE DLP in October it's so much fun!!!

Oh? I imagine it was extremely crowded during the Christmas celebrations wasn't it? My ultimate dream would be to visit for New Year's Eve and see in a New Year at DLP! That would be so magical!!

Hiya,

We were at DLP for the last St Patricks day too and it was busy but I wouldn't say horrendously so. It was on a Wednesday and it still seemed busier on the Friday.

The St Patricks Day celebrations are just for that day, there's a pre parade with Mickey and Minnie, Chip and Dale in their Irish costumes and Irish dancers performing on stage. Skye (3) and I had 4 leaf clovers painted on our faces too :-) . There aren't loads of decs like Halloween though, probably because it'd just for one day it's not really worthwhile.

I would say the main attraction was the firework display before closing. It was brilliant!! and such a rarity unless you go in summer!! We were so lucky as we didn't actually plan to go for St Patricks day, I only realised after I'd booked!! Well worth going then, we loved it!!!!

Weather wise it's so difficult to judge the March weather. We've been in March too and the weathers been glorious both times. Skye was just running about in her dresses and taking off her coat as she was too hot. The week before people were coming back reporting absolutely freezing conditions though so you really need to pack for every eventuality! We went home with half of the clothes in our cases completely untouched as we just didn't need the warmer stuff!!

HTH! Have fun planning!!

Weather wise expect anything from snow March 2004, cold and dry March 2006, wet and sleety March 2007, warm with glorious sunshine March 2009.
Our March trips are usually between 12th DS's birthday and 17th, St Patricks day, my birthday, have to say that we've never stayed for the 17th but have noticed the park being busier on the 15th, 16th with Irish accents very much in evidence. :goodvibes
