Info - Waiting List for Sold Out Resorts

Hi Everyone,

I remember seeing posts a while back that dealt with a waiting list for DVC resorts that are officially sold out. At that time there was some debate as to whether this list exists or not.

Well, I called our guide this morning to let him know that we wanted to do a 60 point add on at HH. When I spoke to him I mentioned that I'd really prefer getting the additional 60 at OKW (we already own points at both resorts) but that I figured I was out of luck there. He told me that for the past 10 months they have been able to wait-list members for additional points at sold-out resorts. I had him add us to the OKW wait list and he said we should hear back from him in 4-8 weeks.

Just thought I'd let everyone know that the list does, in fact, exist. Oh, he also put in a quoted price of $75 per point which will lock that rate in for us for an additional 30 days after the upcoming price increase - just in case nothing opens up before then, although he said he didn't think we'd wait that long.

Something very similar. I called my guide earlier and said I saw on Resale some VWL pts. She mentioned that they still have some points left at VWL just for addon - how wonderful to hear after hearing that all resorts are sold out (on Disney property) except BCV.

Did not know about locking in $75 for additional days. Need to make a phone call.

VWL is not completely sold out! There are no more sales to non-members, but there are some points available as add-ons for current members.

The other sold out resorts (OKW and BWV) will occasionally have points available from 2 sources. DVC can exercise it's RoF (Right-of-Refusal) and repurchase a resale and it also gets existing contracts back when the owners default on their payments (either mortage payments or dues payments). This happens with most all timeshares and is quite common. DVC is in the unique position of being able to "recycle" these points easily. (Other timeshares often have no ongoing sales staff to sell these foreclosures and must sell them at fire-sale prices to get people paying annual maintenance fees again.)

Hi Michele, reading your post again (and speaking with my wife and family) we decided we would rather wait for OKW pts (our home). My guide had no idea how long it would take (maybe months). If you get a call from your guide PLEASE send me an email yesdisneyfool@aol.com so I can call my guide to inquire. She did say I could lock in the $75 rate for 30 days (I just need to call her in mid May). Also, what is your guides name.

Although VWL is not totally sold out, some of the use years are. We tried to add-on 25 points with October use year and Joan Lane, my guide, told me that October use year was sold out but she would put me on a wait-list. This was about 2 weeks ago.

My DH and I were on the wait list to add on at VWL for the same use year of our previous contract. Our guide, Michelle, called us last week and the paperwork arrived yesterday.

Wait lists DO work!!! and we're very happy.

As of today, I'm on the wait list at OKW for Feb use year. As the day goes on I get antsie (sp). Has anyone gotten points recently at OKW and how long did you have to wait?

Hoping to get the call soon so I can cancel PO-Riverside and extend my stay at home (OKW).

We went on the wait list for December use year at VWL around January 20th. We got a call from our guide about a week ago, so it was about 2 months on the list.

We are on the wait list for OKW April use year. We went on it late November and according to our guide as of this week we are STILL 7th on the list. Our guide has locked in the $75/point for 30 additional days after June 2nd. If we have been on the list for that long I don't expect it to come through for us by then. And I am not willing to buy additional points at $80. Just not gonna do it!!!

We too are on the DVC list for an add on at OKW. Just put our name in a couple of days ago (when I figured out we will be a few points short for our Dec trip--seems like a good excuse to me!). Our guide indicated that there are about 10 people ahead of us. We are looking for an Oct use year--but if we buy via a resale, we will probably not be able to be that choosy.

We will be down in Mid-April and will check out the BC; but I think I have my heart set on an OKW add on!

Ncligs, just curious on the April use year just to get an idea of the price (too early for me to buy, I need a few weeks to work on my DH! Plus, I really want to see the BC just in case it wows us). I was wondering since the closing costs can make the price per point $$, what the asking price was and the banked/borrowed situation. Have you seen any add ons for lower points?

Just got the most magical call from my guide. I GOT 75pts @ OKW FOR FEB USE YEAR.

I've been on the list less than a week. Good luck to all it appears magic may be on its way.

WOW Disneyfool!!! That's more than incredible!!! I waited on the BW list for more than a year!!! But we got our points a few weeks ago!! It's all luck, whichever use year comes back, if you're on that list, you get those points... so sooner or later if you're patient, you'll get them!! Congrats again, that's awesome!
