Just got back from a combination GF/VB 8 day extravaganza and enjoyed it so much that we are already planning our next vacation.

Since we have never been to HH, we have decided it will be our next destination. So, I am looking for some input from the user community on the following:

- Best times of year to go (taking weather into account for swimming/golfing)
- Ease of booking 7 months out (we are members at OKW)
- Things to do for both adults/children
- Recommended length of stay (Is Sun/Fri enough or is a full week recommended)

Thanks in advance for all the valuable input!!

One additional question:

Recommendations for room selection (Our kids will be 4-5 and 1-2 depending on when we choose to go)

We're not experts on Hilton Head since we've only been there once, but we just got back a couple weeks ago so it's fresh in our minds. We were there the end of April/beginning of May. For the most part, the weather was great. Only had afternoon of rain and one cloudy day. The temps got up to the 90's several days. From what I hear, the summers are very hot. Another plus for this time of year is the resort was only at 60% capacity. Many times my kids were the only ones in the pool. I was told by a CM that Memorial Day and after they are usually 100% full. We had no problems booking at 7 months. I did call day by day, but I'm not sure if it was really necessary. We even added a cash night 3 days prior with no problems and still got the discounted rate. We stayed 7 nights which was great, but I think 5 nights probably would have been good enough too.

They have activities scheduled throughout each day. Many of which are free. Activities we participated in was the campfire, sweet goodnights bedtime stories, painting Butterfly houses, and the Unbirthday Party. There were many more that we didn't get a chance to participate in.

As for location, we had a pool view which was perfect with kids. Ours are 7, 5, and 3. It was so nice being close to the pool and Community Center.

Have a great time, you'll love it!

I would think for hot enough to swim, but not too hot to golf , the best time of year is going to be lateMarch April and early May. ( the earlier dates are also the best time of year for wildlife in the area which is a stopping point for many migratory birds). The more into summer you go, the better prices you are likely to get for the golf though, so if you can bear playing in hot weather, you will get better deals.
A must do is a dophin cruise, the 5y old is going to love that. The walk around the wildlife national park is really nice, but with a 2 y old , you'll need to carry them a fair amount as it isn't practical to take a stroller. The kids will love the beach and pool, plus there are a lot of activities (painting, unbirthday parties etc) that break the day up for them

I presume you're driving down from NJ? ( is it about 11-12 hours drive?)In your situation I would probably leave on a saturday morning and drive down aiming to spend the Saturday night a couple of hours drive away from HH. With two young kids you are likely to need quite a few "rest stops" so the drive is going to take longer than mapquest or AAA suggest. If you stop in a motel a few hours away it means you'll get to HH early/mid morning and even if you can't get into your room, you are able to use the facilities. If you leave late on the following Friday and get just 2-3 hours under your belt on the return journey it gives you the option on the Saturday of driving all the way home , or if you get tired or the journey takes longer than expected you can make a stop on the Saturday as well. That way you'll get almost 6 full days of relaxation at HH for 5 nights points use.

HH is such a compact resort that IMHO, it really doesn't matter much on room location, nothing is more than a couple of minutes walk whereever you are. I'm sure if you have some flexibility on your dates you will get a room at 7 months out.

I also agree that the late April/early May is a great time to be in HH. Next year, with Easter near the end of April it may be hard at the 7 month window. We liked it so much we have done 2 addon's there. The drive from NJ takes 12 hours under ideal conditions and you can be quite drained when you get there. We are considering stopped over on our next trip. Jerry.

We were able to book a 2 bedroom in July last year at the 7 month point. Called MS every day in order to secure this. Yes, it was hot but made us look forward to the pool and beach to cool down. We loved both the dolphin cruise and the beach combing outings -- we saw tons of dolphins on both. Our kids loved crabbing off the pier at the resort. We enjoyed bike riding especially to the beach. I'm sure you'll love HH. It's wonderful!
