Can anyone tell me what books (or internet sites) on Disney World they have found to be the most useful? We have gone to Disney many times but I am sure that there are events, shows, displays, etc. that we have overlooked. Since we are now members and I expect that we will be going to Disney for many years I want to find other activities, than just going to the parks to make our vacations more enjoyful.

I like the Passporter as a guide book. I like to give first timers the Birnbaums. The Passporter folks have a good site as well (www.passporter.com)

There is also a site about Disney Golf, but I'd have to google it up....if you are interested in golf, I'll do that

DVC's Vacation Magic often highlites programs at WDW that might be of interest to members. The discounts listed on the member's website, in VM and provided at check-in also can offer some suggestion of other activities while at WDW (and at VB and HH).

Enjoy!

Another vote for passporterboards.com! They have a great book that I buy for all my trips. They update them every year . And they make the updates printable so you can add to your old Passporter if you don't want to buy one every year! We buy a new one each time because they usually become a scrapbook. It has all these wonderful pockets to keep track of things. Also places to make notes about your trip. And lots of info on Disney World !

We used the "Unofficial Guide" to WDW for our trips. They seem to have a good feel for the parks. It's actually very interesting to see how they rank the rides, resorts, restaurants etc...

Plus - it gives you something to chew on while you wait to go to WDW.

For fun, try www.tourguidemike.com. A lot of the site is free. For a nominal fee, you can enjoy a complete personal WDW online planner. I tried it once. Didn't use it as much as I would have liked, but it was an added source of information and fun.

I don't have anything bad to say about any of the publications mentioned here. But I will also put in a good word for a guide called Destination: WDW, The Unofficial eBook to Walt Disney World.

This guide is distributed via Adobe PDF download. Separate PC and Palm OS (which I use on my Pocket PC) versions are available. It isn't as comprehensive as some of the other books like the Unofficial Guide, but it has the single best ride descriptions that I've ever seen. Very thorough in that regard, often including historical perspective that you won't find in other guidebooks.

This guide also has the advantage of being updated multiple times per year. Latest revision was November 1st, and included thorough coverage of Mission Space, Mickey's Philharmagic, and even blurbs about the rides currently under construction.

And, at only $6, I believe it's well worth the price. Visit the web site to download a 50-page trial version.

I love the "UnOfficial Guide to Walt Disney World" by Bob Sehlinger. The 2004 ediition is now available on amazon.com. It's 800+ pages are wonderfully honest and comprehensive. Really, everything you'd want to know.

For lighter reading, Sehlinger's "Mini Mickey: The Pocket-sized Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World" is good, too, at 320 pages.

I like the PassPorters a lot, too.

I avoid the Birnbaums. They just seem to be "tip of the iceberg" to me, and rather propaganda-ish.

$.02
