OK guys, im not a happy bunny, but this might help others. :thumbsup2

Even though we booked Aug 05 for Oct 06s holiday, as we booked through a TA Jetsave and not Virgin we will NOT be honoured the larger baggage allowance of 2x 32kgs. NOT VERY CHUFFED ABOUT THIS. This is due to the TA not releasing our names till July to Virgin. i have asked TA to releae early, but even if they can it takes 3 weeks and will miss the 1st April deadline. IF you are ticketed before 1st April you get large baggage allowance after that the reduced one.

the Flying club op did say this " If you bring a case to the desk over the 23kgs now required but under 32 kgs you will only be charged £20 for it" So i think ok that one case can be 31kgs, just pay £20. This might help people who are concerned about number of cases rather than weight.

Decide to move on and not get stressed about this. Yes its a bummer, but I cant change it.
Happy holidays eveyone :grouphug:

Thanks Lindy - does anyone know if this includes a holiday booked with Virgin Holidays? They seem to separate VH from VA :confused3 Do they class VH as a TA?

The thing that makes me laugh is how do they expect two people to get 4 23g (or up to) suitcases, 2 small carry on suitcases, a rucksack and a over the shoulder bag from the converyer belt and to a hirer car, its not possilbe and is going to be a nightmare. At least when we took one HUGE suitcase each and one carry on between us plus the other two it was manageable, not looking forward to December now.

It must be possible as (AFIK) Virgin are the only carriers who offered the massive baggage allowance. Therefore, people who use other airlines must manage with smaller/less bags.

BA are 2 x 32 kgs :)

The non-UK scheduled airlines all seem to be 2 x 23kgs - I better start learning to travel light

OK, so APART from BA and Virgin no other airlines offer the massive baggage allowance :rotfl2:

PS This won't be as funny if you aren't Monty Python fans ;)

Ok can some please tell me - are the 2 pieces of luggage per person 23kg per piece/case or do the 2 cases have to total 23kg???
We booked 18 months in advance plus the wedding all with virgin holidays through a TA are we getting 32kg or 23kg, i'm getting confused :rolleyes2

Thanks for the info Lindy :thumbsup2

I think this means that I am OK for this year as we booked through VH and our flights were released to VA last year but for our holiday next year VH haven't passed the details to VA so we'll have the lower allowance.

Better make sure I buy lots of heavy stuff this year :teeth:

I spoke with Kirsty at VH this morning she then spoke to a supervisor and they both said there is NO change to the baggage allowance no matter what class you are flying...........

From the Virgin Atlantic web site

"From 1 April 2006 we are making some changes to the baggage allowances on our flights.

On transatlantic, Caribbean and Nigerian routes, we've adjusted the allowance for Economy class to 2 pieces at 23kg per piece, Premium Economy and Upper Class remain unchanged. For all other routes, we have increased the allowance for Economy and Premium Economy classes to 23kg, Upper Class remains unchanged"

Jockey, sorry they are wrong, their e mail confirmed it today. and as previously posted from their web site the info. i wish you were right though!!!

ALOT of TA and people at Virgin were un aware of the change, and as I spoke to the freq flying club people today ther were reading straight off a memo to me.!!!!????

I think the DIS boards knew more than them, well first thing this morning we did anyway. Bet they have had 1000 of calls today.

Wish they had upgraded us to UC we have booked to go PE - think maybe that's why they got confused when I asked about the allowance!!!! :teeth:

We've done this loads of times! Plus we've had two children, car seats, stollers etc!

Relax people. Remember it is not compulsory to carry 2 x 23kg suitcases or for that matter 2 x 32kg cases.
Its a limit and you can actually take less if you prefer to.

Personally I just take what the wife is comfortable with carrying :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
