Info and advice, please -- "People were sick on board"

We were on the Feb. 22 sailing and on the first night, my daughter vomited in the sick in the washroom outside the Walt Disney Theatre (the stalls were all occupied, but at least we made it to the washroom!) I suspected seasickness; she even gets car sick. I had forgotten to give her medication before the ship left port so she started feeling queasy during dinner and by then it was too late. Anyhow, within minutes, a ship's officer was in the washroom and cleared everyone out. She immediately asked me for my stateroom number (in case I escaped!!) then told me that we had to go to the medical center to see the doctor. I told her that I was sure that my daughter was only seasick (even I felt woozy), but she insisted saying it was their policy to take anyone who "was sick" to see the doctor.
Of course, I was in a state of panic, thinking we had only left port 2 hours ago and we were going to be quarantined for the next 2 days or so! We ended up seeing a nurse, who asked us a few questions and said my DD should get some rest and that she would call the next morning. My DD (crying now) asked if she would have to stay in her room for the next two days. The nurse said no - as long as it is only seasickness.
Well, the next morning the nurse did call. My DD was still feeling a bit queasy, but had not had another episode. The nurse suggested to continue seasickness medication and get up on deck for fresh air...And of course, we all breathed a sigh of relief!
So, I guess the quarantine is not automatic anymore...

At least DCL is trying to look at each "vomiting" episode on an individual basis. Being on a ship, the vomiting isn't always "flu" related...could be seasickness or overindulgence in all the great food!

The Norwalk/stomach flu is most common during the months of October-April..so it is not just Jan & Feb. It is hard to tell when any virus can turn into an epidemic. Could hit any time, but more common during winter montsh. Seems like the Norwalk was at its worst in Nov-Dec until they took the necessary precautions to keep it under control.

Hopefully it will dissipate soon...

To put things in perspective: here in the Seattle area we just had one school reopen after being shut down for two weeks and another one closed last Friday and they're looking to shut down at least one more. All because of the Norwalk Virus. We were on the Disney Magic on the November 16th cruise, yes it was miserable, but it seems that Disney is taking many precautions and seems to be doing as well as can be expected. I understand there's still some problems with the folks who were on the cancelled cruise but hopefully that will be cleared up soon. The CDC says this is the worst year in the last 20 for the Norwalk, I"m just praying that next year is better, I'll be on the Dec 6th Magic Cruise YIPPPEEEE
