Does anyone know if an infant car seat will fit into a rental stroller? (It is a Graco that comes with the travel system.) I know that I have seen people do it, but I am wondering if it was secure and if it could be strapped in.
They do have some rental strollers that have an infant carseat in them. I've personally never used them but I have seen them. As for using your carseat there would be no way to secure it that I can think of.
No - the rental strollers are hard plastic and many don't even have a working "seatbelt"
I would recommend a regular stroller that fully reclines and has a sunshade for a baby that young. Carseats are made for protection in cars and studies are showing that we are overusing them. Nothing wrong with a quick shopping trip of course but anything over 1/2 hour or so isn't good for babies spine and lungs. I definately overused my infant seat with my first dd so this isn't a flame just what I hope will be helpful information.
IMHO the best option at WDW for a baby is a good lightweight stroller that fully reclines and has a large sunshade. A snugli or sling for lines and pavilions that don't allow strollers is a lifesafer as well. If your worried about restaurants "most" will allow a stroller for a baby that isn't sitting up yet.
Oh, just thought I would add. If you are taking a small babe to WDW, I'd highly recommend a sling/carrier of some type! It is so much easier when you are going on rides, etc. to have baby in a carrier. Keeps you hands free.
I have a Baby Bjorn that I plan on using, but I know I will need to use a stroller for some part of the trip. I am also scared to bring our new stroller. Anyone have any trouble with strollers getting ruined at the airport??
We traveled often when my dd's were babies and never had issues with strollers. You can use the stroller right up to the gate area and tell the gate agent you want to gate check it. They will give you a tag for it and you leave it (folded) at the door to the aircraft. It will be brought out to that same place when you de-plane usually pretty quickly.
To prevent damant I suggest removing any extras like trays or toys and packing them in your checked bags, you can re-assemble when you get to the resort. I even took off the sunshade on one of mine because of the way it folded. Fold it yourself, don't leave it for the baggage handlers to try and figure out how to fold it and if your not using a stroller bag use a bungee to make sure it dosen't pop open.
Babies r us and other baby stores sell stroller bags - you can buy one or use a trash bag to wrap or cover it if you like.
Just to make you feel a little better about bringing your own...we have taken our DD's Peg Perego P3 the past two years and it has always been fine. On the plane and at the parks. We gate check it once we are about to board.
I agree with taking your own stroller for a small baby. She will be much more comfortable. I also used a Baby Bjorn with my middle DS when he was 5 months old in WDW. It was perfect for riding the rides and getting on and off of them.
Those seats get really hot too b/c they don't breathe well. I wouldn't have wanted Ilana in one for our all day at WDW. Even when it's cooler outside, it's stuffy in there.
Take your stroller. It should be fine. If you are worried about it, I'd gate check rather than checking it with your luggage and buy a stroller bag to put it in. If it has a dangling cup holder, take it off so it doesn't get broken. That's the first thing that happened to our P3 when we flew. The cup holder broke off and was never seen again!
I would suggest taking your own. We just returned and the rental strollers would not have been appropriate for our 10 month old. We put the stroller in luggage on the way there not knowing we could gate check it.
There are benefits to taking your own. You don't have to wait in lines to get them and return them. The only drawback to taking your own is having to fold them up and carry it onto the bus.
