I know this really has nothing to do with vacations, but I thought someone would have some advice or info. My 4 mo is just about to outgrow his graco snugride. We live in Wisconsin and we have a lot of winter yet ahead of us, and he loves his infant seat. He is my third child so it is VERY convienent to have him in his infant seat still, since he is not sitting up on his own yet. Anyways...my question is do they make a seat to hold taller infants (over the 26inches on the graco snugride? I have seen the Britax Companion, but hate to have to pay $160 for only a few months. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Have you looked at Evenflo car seats? Our daughter, who is now 5 and still in hers, has made me a big fan! Olivia was a micro-preemie and stayed rear facing in hers until she was almost 3 and complaining! Now that she's five it's still a good fit. Their Triumph line is my favorite. We have them in both cars. They are made to grow. We did keep her in an infant seat until she was 8 months old (probably 9 pounds or so) and then put her into her convertable seat. They are really designed to reconfigure as your child grows. Looks like most of them are running about $105, but well worth the investment.

The Britax Roundabout is good rear facing up until 30 lbs. Babies should be rear facing until they are 20 lbs and one year old. It is also good forward facing up to 60 or 65 lbs. My 3 yo is 30 lbs and still in her Roundabout. My 11 month old is also in a Roundabout, rear facing and complaining too.

If I'm reading correctly, you are looking for an infant seat -- one that you carry with you. As far as I know, they are pretty much standard in size with the weight limit being 20-22 lbs. I believe the seats mentioned above are convertible seats. You move your child to these seats after an infant seat and can be faced forward or backward. You wouldn't want to carry this seat with you -- they are large and heavy and not easy to install.

WantToGoNow is correct. The Britax is great and can last much longer than a few months, but it is not something you can carry around with you. If you need an infant seat that you can carry then you won't get much time out of one so I would not spend the money for a Britax. If you are just going to leave it in the car then the Britax is well worth the money.

I just read in American baby about a new infant seat made by Graco--It's called the Infant Safeseat. It's an infant carrier that fits babies up to 30lbs. Runs $130-$170 at graco.com. Lots of luck!

I was looking for a infant carrier seat...we have a convertible seat, I was just hoping to find something that would last a little longer, before I had to move him to a convertible seat. Thanks for the info!!

You can still use the carrier for walking around, you know. Just keep it in your trunk for situations when you need it for that purpose. We did this and still used it in restaurants, stores, etc. until DS could sit up on his own.

For safety when actually in a moving vehicle, it's best that you switch to a rear-facing toddler carseat once he's outgrown the infant seat.

Why not get a convertable carseat. And for carrying, use a sling or some other form of carrier like that?
