We are trying to put together an inexpensive trip to DL so we can go when my DS goes with the high school band.

We can get the Coast Anaheim for $71 per night (same hotel as DS) through Getaway Today. The first night we would arrive late and I thought if we could find a place cheaper than $71 (and enough of a difference to make it worthwhile) that would help the budget.

Appreciate any ideas!

Okay, personally, I understand that I am both cheap and nuts...but we will be driving in to DL from Colorado, and we will be arriving late on a Sunday night. Last trip, we encountered HEAVY traffic that delayed us two hours beyond our estimated arrival time, so we though it might be easier to stay somewhere outside of the L.A. area and then drive in to DL the next morning. So, we're going to stay in Victorville, which I think is supposed to be two hours from DL, and hope that we miss the rush hour traffic when we drive in the next morning. (Sorry for the long story.)

:)

PS--forgot to mention that I think this is going to be about $50 to $60 for the four of us.

The following places can usually be had for less and have decent to good reviews..
The Tropicana Inn
The Desrt Inn and Suites
Super 8 (on Katella)
The Desrt Palm Inn and Suites
And sometimes the Howard Johnson which is a great place to stay.

There are also a few 1 stars on Katella ya could get for cheap but well... Id pay the extra 10 bucks for a nicer hotel-

My fav cheap spot is the Super 8 on Katella- Its decent, clean and ya get free doughnuts which are my fav doughnuts :)

Have any of you tried priceline?? I have used priceline with success. If this appeals to you, go on biddingfortravel.com where hotels can be gotten for dirt cheap. I usually get the Hyatt Orange County for 40.00 a night but they charge 12.00 for parking. Y'all could bid for a 2.5 star hotel though and you wouldn't be charged for parking.

PM me or reply to this if you need any help or clarification.

OP

when are you going. Some sample bids that bidders have been receiving lately are:

3 star - Coast Anaheim 40.00 3/22/04
3 star - Costa Mesa Hilton 41.00 7/8 - 7/12/04
3 star - Hyatt Orange County 24.00 3/28 - 3/31/04
3 star - Doubletree Orange 45.00 3/17 - 3/18/04
2.5 star - Residence Inn (Costa Mesa) 35.00 3/21/04

Thanks for the great ideas! I'm leaning towards the Super 8 on Katella.

MandaMom, first I must say how much I LOVE the picture!! Our trip would be May 19-23 and if we go a day before the one night we would be looking for is May 18th. My son really wants us at the same hotel he's at so Priceline wouldn't work for the 19-23 dates as we couldn't be assured of getting the Coast Anaheim. But for the 18th it would possibly work if we could be sure of getting some place at a great bargain. What hotels are in the 2.5 star category? I wouldn't want to get stuck at some place with a big parking fee. Thanks for your help!
