We are going to do some traveling soon and were talking and wondering how you can tell if a CB is good or not.

Should you get a cheap one? what makes one better than the other? Only get it at a truck stop? Brand?

Anyone on here know a trucker and can ask him/her? we just don't know anyone.

I will be glad to ask Dh tonight. I do know that he tends to go to CB shops or trucking shops rather than getting one from Wal-mart, Target or even radio shack.

But, you may not need/want one as powerful as a lot of truckers have.

He will be in tonight and I will ask though!

My husband is a truck driver, he had a really nice one, they use it to communicate traffic delays and police stakeouts and oher general info. He suggests just a small one for personal use and going to a shop that specializes in them rather than Walmart or Target and you can usually find some of those shops sell used ones that they have fixed up and I would go to them anyway, so they can help choose one that fits your needs and tell you what else you need for it to work (we had to have a huge antenna), not all the truck stops have people that are knowledgeable and the place we deal is a family business, so they get my business.

I think his was a Cobra or something like that, it was solen out of his truck, so he doesn't have it any more, and he drives multiple trucks and mainly works the yard now, so no need for one.

We don't have one in our personal vehicle, he'd love it though, but they use them for not so nice communications sometimes, too, so just a warning. I used to ride with him sometimes and I would hear stuff and ask him if I heard correctly.

I don't believe Walmart or Target have sold CB radios since at least the 1980's (in Target's case, if ever).

Not sure about Radio Shack, either since their focus is more on cell phones and similar devices.

As CB radios are no longer an everyday item used by everyday folks (CBs were replaced by mainstream consumers using inexpensive, long-range walkie talkies or cell phones), your best sources for a CB radio would be at a Pilot/Flying J travel center, or an online retailer.
