Inexpensive and small tablet recommendations

I do love my Apple products - they just work really well for me with no issues. I just don't want to spend a fortune for a tablet just for a one time trip. I'm going to try unlocking my Nook and see what happens. Lol and if that doesn't work- I just found out that my mom has a brand-new Verizon tablet that my father got free when they re-upped their phones, it's just sitting in the desk drawer getting no love (mom can't read the screen). Next time I go down to their house I'm going to see if the MDE app plays nicely with it.

We got my son a kids Fire bundle for Christmas during the last Black Friday sale. I don't know if there's something wrong with the one we bought but the battery life is really bad compared to our Ipad. Most of the time my son uses it he has to keep it plugged which sort of defeats the purpose of buying a tablet.

It must be an issue with your device. Like I said I have five of them and they all work great including the one that my daughter beats the crap out of everyday. If you have the kids bundle that should have come with a 2 year no questions asked warranty. I would send it back and get it fixed or have them send you a new one.

I am biased against Apple because I don't like their business practices so I will never buy an Apple product.

Bought my Kindles as e-readers (I have 3 versions) but the Kindle Fire is my go to device for Facebook and many other things. Didn't realize I couldn't install my Disney app so I may have to think about a different device as well

So here's a question - if I can get to the Disney website via a browser on a tablet, do I really need the app? Does it do things the website doesn't?

If you have one of the old Nook color tablets you can take it in to your local B&N and get a $50 credit on one of the Samsungs. That would put it at less than $100. (You have to ask them, it's not advertised)

You can also download the Kindle app on it and have your Nook Books and Kindle books on one device.

The inexpensive Kindle is inexpensive, but it's really...really slow. It would drive me bananas to try to do anything on it on the fly in the parks.

My battery life is great when I am writing but does drain down a lot more quickly when I am using the Internet on my Kindle

I haven't used my Kindle Fire much yet, however for the $33 on prime day it was well worth it. It's extremely easy to unlock it to put google play store on it and be able to access pretty much any apps (there's a link to a youtube video with instructions right in the FAQs on the product page on Amazon).

Funny, I feel the same way about Amazon. Except for some things, I have no reasonable choice except to go through them.

Not Lenovo. I have always used Apple but felt it was a bit extravagant for my daughter so get her a Lenovo. It really pails in comparison and I've had a lot of problems with it! It's true what they say, but cheap, buy twice.

I got a Fire 7 on Prime Day for $33....didn't really even need it but thought it would be nice to have one that is a backup that wouldn't kill me if I lost it.

I've purchased various "off-brand" cheaper tablets over the last few years and none lasted longer than 3 months before they either stopped working altogether, or stopped holding a charge. They are basically garbage the minute they break because the warranties are useless and costs more to ship it back than to buy another one.

Just purchased Fire 7 tablets for 2 of my kids on Prime Day (for $33), and so far, so good. Typically, if you watch and wait they go on sale for $40 one or two days of the month. Plus Amazon has a GREAT return policy. You can youtube how to get the Disney app on it, easy peasy.

The only other tablet that I felt was a good buy was an Acer Iconia tablet that I got for $89. It worked for a year before my daughter forgot it on the floor and somebody stepped on it.

Poor tablet! Lol

yep, I got my kids the Fire 7 for $35 on Black Friday (if you're able to wait)

My parents bought a bunch of them on Black Friday last year as well. We all got them for Christmas. Everyone loves them! Hard to believe they were only $35.

FYI - I tried to sideload the MDE APK last night on two Kindle Fires. One I was able to side load it and log in fine. The other, I could not log in. However, I uninstalled it and then installed another APK and it did work fine.

However, when I tried to use some of the functionality of MDE, I got an error message stating that Google Play services needs to be installed. There are ways to install Google play services, but I haven't gotten around to doing so yet. Sideloading Google Play Services doesn't work.

EDIT: Following the instructions on websites (do a google search), I was able to download software and install Google Play and all associated services on two Kindle Fire tablets. MDE worked fine after doing so. It really wasn't hard to do so if you follow the instructions. So with a little work, a Kindle Fire is a good tablet to run MDE on.

If anyone wants details on what I did, let me know.

I have a Fire HDX 7" that is over 2 years old...works perfectly...I even let the 3 year olds watch Netflix on it and it is still great.

I have another Fire that is AT LEAST a year older than that. It was given to my oldest son (7 years old at the time) when I got my Fire HDX...it still works pretty good, but you have to work a little magic to charge it (I think that is from my DS putting the charger in wrong or being too jerky with it).

I just can't justify spending iPad money when I basically watch Netflix, read books, and play Diner Dash on it
