Hi, this is following on from my thread about delta. If i was to fly indirect with delta and for some reason the first plane was delayed is it at a cost to me, if i miss my connecting flight, to get another flight?Sorry if this is a daft question , but i've only ever flown direct mainly with virgin.Next year we may have to go from lgw to lax via atlanta-so was just wondering, if they make you fend for yourself if there are delays.

I flew with AA to Pittsburgh via Chicago a couple of years back. The London - Chicago flight sat on the tarmac at Heathrow for 2 hours -boiling hot day and the problem with the plane was the air con!!! We missed our connection at Chicago due to the delays so AA put us on the next plane. I'm sure this would be at no cost to you should this happen with Delta. I'm flying via Chicago on my Orlando trip as it saved me mega £'s.

if you have booked a ticket where they give you the flights on same airline or a code shareing airline they will conect you at no extra charge. But if you have booked sepperate flights yourself to make it cheaper its your fault that you havent made it.like if you flew to new york on BA and booked a flight on song from there to orlando no help from BA if there is a delay.

You mean thru-ticketed on one single flight booking?

Hiya, thanks for your replies.I may have to book indirect to lax-lgw to atlanta
atlanta to lax
All with delta round trip.So i'm assuming it's classed as one way each way if that makes sense. So i was worried that if the London to atlanta segment was delayed if they put you on thier next available automatically, as technically they still have to get me to lax.
Cheers

Actually, most airlines are helpful in this kind of situation, although I think that if they were two separate airlines, the assistance you get would be as a gesture of goodwill more than anything else.

This has happened to me on two occasions - on the first we had Delta flights through Atlanta onto Sarasota. Some unfortunate man had a heart attack on the LGW to Atlanta leg, and we had to land in Washington. The plane then had to go through all the usual fuel and mechanical checks, and we ended up being delayed for about 3 hours, missing our connecting flight. We were just automatically booked onto the next available flight - we only had to wait about an hour for it.

On a second occasion, I had a Delta shuttle flight from Tampa to Boston and then a Virgin flight to LGW. There had been a accident on the main bridge into Tampa and they shut the bridge (while I was on it). I watched my flight take off, but obviously missed it. I couldn't get to Boston that day, so I called Virgin, explained what had happened, and they put me on the same flight the next day at no cost at all.
I'm sure you will be fine.

We Flew with Delta in September and missed the flight at Gatwick (     ) Which meant we would have missed our connecting flight, but the delta people booked us on the next flight, and changed are connecting flight at no extra cost. But this would depend on what time of year you flew at and if they have any space on the flights.

Hi thanks for all your replies :goodvibes As i've never flown indirect, i just wanted to make sure that if i did have to go down this route, i have everything covered.Cheers everyone :cool1:
