Indiana Jones

Blue Thunder (I do know this one from WDW...it's ups and downs and turns but not a crazy rollercoaster)
I think you mean Big Thunder Mountain Railroad? I rode this twice on Saturday. The first time, I was in the second row and could barely feel the ride. My daughter told me the front seats don't have as much speed because they are pulling the rest of the train and the last seats feel a lot faster. We rode again and asked for the last row. They let us stand and wait for the last row. It was a completely different ride. I felt my stomach drop several times when sitting in the last row.

So, you may want to ask to be in the first row on that ride. It really didn't feel like a roller coaster to me. Well, we also had very loud screaming people right behind us that took away from the ride quite a bit, too.

Thank you. Will definitely sit in the front row then. I remember reading too that the front is 'easier' since you are halfway down the hill before the last car reaches the top and thus not as much to continue down the hill.

You are not going slower on BTMRR by sitting in the front of the train. Each seat travels the same distance at the same speed. The cars in the back are at the top of the hill at the beginning of the fast part, but the cars in the front are at the bottom of the hill or up the next hill at the end. If you have speed restrictions there is no seat the insulates you.

OP, you've started a thread about this before and gotten detailed descriptions about this rides. You've been given opinions that they're not safe, including Star Tours and Matterhorn. It's your choice to ride them, but you've been given lots of info already to make that choice.

I have to disagree about the experience not being at all different in different seats on certain rides. I stated that was my opinion earlier and that's what I meant. I've also felt more whipped around in the last row of seats on Space Mountain as well.

The OP can make different threads about different rides if they want, I don't see any real point in scolding them for that.

Thank you. Appreciate the feedback (and your other comment too) :-) And its not the first time I've heard the comment of the ride feeling different depending on where you are sitting.

In terms of speed it is the same. That's physics. The perception might be that it's different, but if the restriction is due to speed, you're not avoiding it by sitting in a different seat. On a bumpier ride with smaller vehicles like Matterhorn there may be some difference, but it also matters how the weight is distributed, which a rider can't control unless they are a party of 6. The OP said she didn't have any info on Matterhorn and that's not true. She's started threads about multiple rides collectively. If she wants a different answer, why not bump those threads? If she can't find those threads to review the answers, maybe that's a sign that she's started too many threads and should collect all her questions together. Either way, her doctor has warned her about ride restrictions, the ride data is out there and has been reiterated. Either ignore your doctor or play it safe. Starting a bunch of threads on a message board does not make these rides safe.

Maybe the OP is looking for different posters/points of view. No sense in getting grumpy about it. I see repetitive threads all the time, I'd just stay out of them if they irritated me.

SMD, I find it odd that you track people's posts. Thought this board was for sharing and asking questions, and not being made feel like it's not allowed. If I repeated a question then I apologise but maybe you should just ignore posts if they annoy you rather than being snarky at them?

That's the thing...there is no black and white answer. And even 3 different doctors give different opinions. My eye surgeon said 'no restrictions'. My eye specialist said 'you can try it and see as it's hard to say' (no pun intended), and my regular eye doctor said 'need to be careful'.

Good to know I can stand in line with my family right until they get on. I am noting this as I'm sure it's not the case with all rides.

I think on all rides, there is a way to exit if you decide not to board the ride. I can't think of any where you can't.

If there are rides where you can't exit at the boarding location, I know someone here will be able to list them.

Enjoy your trip!

yes, I was going to say the same thing. Most "fast" or thrill type rides unload and board at the same spot so you could just step through the car and exit. The one I can think of that doesn't do this is the Matterhorn (but it has a "chicken exit" the CM can let you out so no worries there either if you decide not to ride). I can think of other non thrill rides that don't share boarding/exit locations (ie-most of the rides in Fantasyland) but those aren't really a concern.

Sorry you have gone through this too. It sucks. :-( Hope your treatment has gone well? I have a buckle in one eye (and laser in other).
It's really tough with Disney knowing what is ok and what is not. Do you know offhand which you are going to try and which you are going to avoid? For sure, I'll avoid California Screamin, Twilight of Terror (or whatever the new name is if they are changing it) and Hyperspace Mountain. The one's I'm on the fence with are: Indiana Jones (as in this post), Blue Thunder (I do know this one from WDW...it's ups and downs and turns but not a crazy rollercoaster), Radiator Springs, Matterhorn, Mater Junkyard and Grizzly River Run. It sucks having to sit out on some (or a lot) of rides. Would love to hear back from you on what you ended up trying since we're in the same situation. Have a great vacation. Disney is such an exciting holiday!

Just laser for me, caught it really early... I have an appointment with my specialist at the start of April, going to get specific with him, then look at the youtube ride throughs of the ones that are on the edge of what he suggests... It used to be no bungee jumping before the detachment, but don't know the new rules as it was only a few months ago... Will definitely make a note of how it all goes for you :)

Good luck with your appointment...And enjoy your trip. Bungee jumping is one thing I have no issues skipping...Lol.

I avoid Indy. Every time I ride, I get a head ache that lasts a couple days.

This is correct. The speed can not vary from the front to the back of the train because the cars are physically connected. The difference in perception between the front and the back is caused by where you are on the hills when you experience the acceleration. The rear seats experience the acceleration during the decent while the front of the train is already part way down the hill before it picks up speed.

It sounds like the professional medical advice on this issue is conflicting. It looks like your surgeon said there were no restrictions. But if there is a problem with riding these rides after your surgery, I assume it would primarily be related to exposing your eyes to strong acceleration forces and shaking. I would say that Indiana Jones should be right at the top of the list of the rides you would need to avoid, only possibly surpassed by California Screamin'.

Of the other rides you've discussed, I would describe Radiator Springs Racers as fairly tame. There are some sudden turns, and the ride accelerates quickly to about 40mph at the end, but I didn't find it to be very intense at all. If you have any experience with Test Track at Epcot, it's a similar, but somewhat milder experience.

Oh thank you. Ok....so sadly, it seems like Indiana Jones is one to skip. As posters listed here, I can go in line with my family but probably should just exit when they get on. Yeah...the problem is there is no blank and white answer.
Good to know...I love Test Track at Epcot so if it's calmer then it would be ok.
