The best special affect = Kate Blanchett keeping that wig on for the whole movie.

I am a HUGE fan of the series - this one was a diappointment. It's obvious that this was just a set-up for the next action hero series (that won't include Harrison Ford).

There one or two great action scenes - and recreating a 1950's college campus was some of the best set/costume design since the first Back to the Future - but the rest was just odd.

I turned to Gary during the college scenes and said "Doesn't that look like Yale?" (My nephew went there and since we had a minivan, we were the ones who always helped move him in.) I just looked it up and I was right.

To think Harrison was a bit over an hour from here and he didn't stop by. Harrumph...

I really wanted to like it, and even now when people ask what I think I feel like I'm trying to talk myself into giving it a good review. But I think/hope its one of those movies that I will like the more I watch it. The "no way" moments weren't any worse than say, Ironman and that was a great movie. Anyway, I read online that they were going for a classic 50's sci-fi "homage". The best thing I can say about it was that I did enjoy it. I found myself thinking...comeon...but overall it was an enjoyable movie.

I saw Indy opening day and Iron Man last night. I agree with most folks here. Indy just didn't work for me. I thought the car-chase-through-the-jungle scene was very poor CGI. Also, I don't know about you guys but I really don't think that people (young or old) can stand up on a moving vehicle that's crashing through the jungle while fighting someone in another vehicle (also crashing through the jungle) and not be tossed off instantly. It was just stupid and oh so FAKE! Marion was kinda goofy. I couldn't take her seriously. *Sigh* That said, I'll still buy it when it comes out on DVD. As for Iron Man, I just thought it was ok. It took a l-o-n-g time to get to the good stuff. I'm a big fan of Robert Downey Jr. but I HATED the foo-man-choo. Yuck. LOVED seeing Samuel L. Jackson at the end though!! There's hope that the next one will be better!

We just saw this last night! Finally. It was enjoyable. It did have a much different feel than the previous 3. I guess they were going for a 50's sci-fi movie, but it felt a little too modern maybe? I think they missed the 50's B-movie feel.

There was something a bit off in this flick compared to the other 3. Can't put my finger on it, yet.

But, I didn't find it bad at all. Just different. 3.5 out of 5 stars for me.

I saw Indiana Jones two weeks ago, Loved it. the action never let up. Harrison Ford was great for a guy who is in his 60's ***** for Indiana jones

I think this is one of those either you liked it or you didn't. Harrison Ford is 65 now. I think people who have loved the other Indy and the Star Wars with him in it have the image of Harrison Ford as he was then stuck in their heads. Lost ark came out in 1981 Temple of Doom in 1984 and Last Crusade in 1989. I don't know about you all but I have changed a lot since then!. It's been 19 years since the Last Indy and 27 since the first. I gotta say I thought Harrison Ford was looking good. Did he look thrity something? No of course not.. he isn't but you know he is still looking good at 65. And the movie didn't try to make him out to be a young man it was clear that a good deal of time had pass- enough for him to have an adult son. As for the plotline I had seen a show about the "real crystal skulls" and read a couple articles and given that I had that background knowledge, I didn't find that the story was way out there. I enjoyed it for a couple of reasons I just found it entertaining and I just introdiced my kids to the Indy series and they enjoy it is is kind of a connection for us to have these movies that I watched as a pre teen/ teen that my kids think is cool (yes Mom actually was a kid and enjoyed movies just like they do) and to have one that came out that we can share together at the same time. All in all I enjoyed it.

I do like reading other people's opinions about movies, books etc because it just shows how varried our interests an opinions are.

I just enjoyed the heck out of this movie. I did know a bit about the real crystal skulls going in, so that might have helped me not be quite so "oh come on" as others. When you think about the arc and the grail, there were certainly points that were just as "oh come on", but I think we let them slide because we had come to accept those stories.
Somebody said something about them not capturing the b-movie feel, and I disagree. I thought they did a great job with recreating the Saturday serial feel that Indy was always supposed to have. While there was CGI stuff, a great deal of the action is done for real, and I dig the cheesiness that brings. Things like not falling of a moving vehicle in the jungle or keeping the hat on after the three falls just add to that feel for me. Though I did think the swinging with the monkey scene was just dumb...largely because he seemed to commune with the monkey before decicing to try the swinging. Swinging would have worked if it was spontaneous instead of an act of simian-human mind melding.
So, I liked the movie is what i'm trying to say. Not the best movie this year, (IMHO see Kung Fu Panda for that), but fun, which is all I wanted.

My sister saw Indy yesterday...she said it was awful. Way too many "Oh, come ON!" moments. And she didn't know a thing about the Crystal Skulls and she really hated the "out there" aspect (trying not to give anything away here) I still want to see it, but I'll wait now til it goes to the cheap show.

I think if you know about the crystal skulls then the story line makes more sense if you don't you might get the oh come on feeling. Now I'm not saying that I believe that the real crystal skulls were produced by other worldly or other dimensional beings - that is one of the theories that goes along with how they were created so if you have heard about the crystal skulls before you know why they head in the direction that they do in the movie.

I totally agree. I think one of the problems this movie has is in going with a myth that is not very well known. I only knew a very little, and that was because I had wondered about it because of the movie. Most people don't want to do research before going to a movie. Lucas might have been better served to go with another well known myth, but he does like to make us go "huh?" doesn't he?

All I know about Crystal Skulls came from Leonard Nimoy when he hosted In Search Of...

There are some way out there theories regarding the skulls. So the story treatment is within the realm of the myths. The myths are out there, along the lines of Atlantis, alien abductions, etc.

I had not seen the original Indiana Jones before I saw the newest one. My bf was sssoo excited to see it. When we got out, he was pissed and I didn't understand why. He said the story was just so..."cmon are you serious?"

Thanks to Netflix, I just watched Temple of Doom and after watching it, I completely understand. The new one was awful in a lot of ways. I thought I would post my opinion since I'm sort of the opposite of most people who saw the original ones and then the new one.

I went into this movie as a HUGE Indiana Jones fan and with a long time crush on Harrison Ford (also stems from childhood dreams of him as Han Solo and me as Princess Leia - taught myself how to actually do my hair in those side buns!) and left the movie still as a fan. There were a lot of "oh come on" moments and the ant scene had me pulling my legs up under me and itching like mad, but I went for the entertainment of it and not the realism of it. It was a little disappointing because I was expecting to be completely wowwed, but it was a good 2 hrs. our mindless entertainment.

Harrison Ford is still pretty darn hot 66 yr. old man!!

Im still a fan from the past work, both directors and harrison, I was very disapointed because,like everyone there was to much aw come on,,in the movie. I didnt like the ending, as the movie progressed it got more and more unrealistic. I took my kids to see this movie because as a kid myself I loved star wars and these movies. Not what I expected from Lucas and others. My 2 cents.

Okay, Gotta throw in my .02

I really enjoyed the movie (twice) and thought Spielberg did a decent job of making a 4th. I know many people questioned wether Harrison Ford was going to be acting from a wheel chair or whatnot. =))

In particular, I throughly enjoyed the opening sequence (Nevada 1957). It was very classic in style and had a comic book feel to it. The direction are artistic flavor to details added to a grand set of action-packed scenes.

I'm assuming that they will make a 5th movie?

I think that is the intention and the set-up is for Shia LeBeuoff to be the lead character and Harrison Ford to take the backseat...not sure though how this will play out with those die hard Indy fans.
