Indiana Jones the Ride

On one of my last few trips I remember one of the Disney bus drivers saying that they were going to close the Indian Jones Stunt Show after the new one opened and that they were going to build the Indian Jones Ride like the one in California.

Anyone know anything about this?

Personally I think that would be great.

Haven't heard anything about that, but personally I would love if they built the Indiana Jones Ride at WDW! I'm not that big on stunt shows and I've always wanted to try the IJ ride, but sadly have never had a chance to get to CA

That rumor has been circulating for years. I've seen maps of the ride building (which actually would've removed some cast member parking areas). I'd love it to be the case since I think the Indy show at least needs a revamp. Personally, however, I'd rather they get rid of the new Lights Motors show (the pits, in my opinion!).

That being said, nothing new has been mentioned about this rumor in years, so who knows if it's going to come to fruition or not.

I don't know if they'd do this just because Dinosaur at AK is the same type of ride as Indy, just with a different theme. Both are Star Tours simulators on wheels (I got that tidbit off the Travel Channel).

The rumor I hear from my friend who works at Disney is everytime they get ready to get rid of the stunt show Spielberg starts talking about making the 4th movie. Disney wants to have the stunt show running until the 4th movie is done then they will move on.

I like the Indiana Jones ride in Dinsneyland Paris and it's weird cos there are a lot more bigger and faster ones but out of all of them, this is the only one that makes my stomach go! It's not even a big drop either! :rotfl: weird

I asked this same question several days ago on another message board I frequent. That board has a CM from Disney-MGM Studios on it. In spite of all rumors to the contrary, the Stunt Spectacular will remain open. They even revised the script recently. He said that even when Katrina moved through, despite the heavy rains, the show was packed. In fact, on August 25th (the show's 16th anniversary) a lot of new merchandise was released.

As for the Indy ride rumor, he said that possibility is dead.

I've heard that the track for both the DL and TDL Indy rides, as well as the track for Dinosaur, are exactly the same. I don't have a lot of luck getting on to Dinosaur (closed for refurbs, closed because of technical problems), but I hope to ride it on my upcoming trip to confirm this.

Have you noticed the 4 dumbo rides.... .... ....

i wish they'd change it ...to me it is been there done that..the first time it's good but even with my bad memory the surprise is gone after trip #1

Yep, the Indiana Jones thing has been out there forever... instead, we got Dinosaur. The Matterhorn thing has been out there forever, too.... instead we are getting a new vamped version in Expedition Everest.

Let's see if I can think of any other rumors.... hmmmmm... Spain having a pavillion at Epcot..... gutting Spaceship Earth and making it into a coaster..... getting monorails between all of the resorts in the next few years..... that Teen Club on Pleasure Island.... the new water park being built over by Port Orleans French Quarter..... Port Orleans French Quarter being bought by the Military for use when Shades of Green is at capacity..... that 5th gate......

Star tours simulators on wheels? that is very interesting, because I am a total wuss about rides and get sick or scared on almost everything. I have never ridden Indy J. But I love Dinosaur, it's one of my favorite WDW rides. I really really want to ride Indy. But living on the East Coast I never get to go to DL (only been once, as a child too young and scared to ride ANYTHING...LOL). Funny thing is, I cannot handle Star Tours AT ALL. I felt queasy the first time and decided to close my eyes the second time, but I still felt like I was dropping during the falling part, etc. and got even queasier. But I can handle Dino just fine. I guess the screen makes a huge difference! I had NO idea it was the same type of vehicle.
Course, I have not been on Star Tours since I was a pre-teen (27 now) and I have ridden Dino a lot lately....I will go to AK just for that ride, go on it about 5 times, and leave. Another funny thing is that my Dad LOVES roller coasters, simulators like ST and Mission Space, but he cannot handle Dinosaur :confused3 Different strokes for different folks, I guess!

P.S. I think this is my first post on a non-VMK related DIS forum, so I'll introduce myself to the non-VMK ppl: Hi I am Miakoda, I live in Florida, and I love Disney, the DIS, VMK, making Origami, Karaoke, Sushi (anything Japanese-related really), movies, TV (favorite shows are Nip/Tuck and Family Guy), and reading (Dean Koontz, Chuck Palahniuk, and Matt Ruff = faves), and Homestar Runnner (as if you can't tell from my avatar and sig picture  ). That me, Miakoda, but you can call me Mia!

EDIT:
like the Indiana Jones ride in Dinsneyland Paris and it's weird cos there are a lot more bigger and faster ones but out of all of them, this is the only one that makes my stomach go! It's not even a big drop either! weird

Just how big is this drop? can anyone who has ridden both Dino and IJ verify that they are the same, and that IJ is not "scarier"? I do not like big drops (anything bigger than Big Thunder's biggest drop is too much....LOL). I want to plan my next vacation to Cali for the sole purpose of visiting DLR.

Also, about Expedition Everest...what is that going to be like? I never rode the Matterhorn (of course!) when I went to DL as a child, so if it's like that I still have no idea. Is the Matterhorn about as tame as Big Thunder? If not how is it different? I ask b/c Big Thunder is my other favorite ride than Dinosaur, and is about the "scariest" coaster I can handle. the thrills are just perfect for me. I don't even ride Space Mountain unless i have to (i.e., I'm with a big group who are all riding and I don't want to wait alone), and I hate every second of it...mostly to do with being in the dark, I could handle the drops and stuff more if I knew they were coming and was prepared. Like on BTM, I could draw a schematic of that ride track if I wanted to without looking at it, , I have it so well memorized! I could ride with my eyes shut (I actually have) and be okay b/c I know what is coming.

Sorry for the long post, but I didn't want to double or triple post :)

That would great if WDW got the Indiana Jones ride too. We love riding it at DL and the sweetpea thinks its one of the best. We saw the stunt show last time we were there. And it was alright. Stunt shows are my thing. We might skip it this week when we go, but are taking a someone who's never been so might see it for them. Having IJ instead would be great IMO.

I love the Stunt Show and never get tired of seeing it (I'm a huge IJ fan) but I would not mind at all if they replaced it w/the ride.

Funny story: the first time we saw the show, my sis and I were pretty little, I'd say about me 11 and her 7 y/o. They asked for the volunteers and said they wanted someone who could double for Indiana Jones. They picked my Dad! We were excited and the funniest thing happened (that we will never let my sister, now 23, forget): when Indy dropped out of the ceiling at the start, my sister shouted out, "That's my Daddy!" :rotfl2: Everyone around us busted out laughing and we were laughing the hardest. That is a memory we will never forget! Then we had to see the next show again since my Dad did not get to actually see it. (he was, of course, just a guy in a turban and not Indiana Jones :rotfl: )

The Indy ride is in my top three of all time along with Tower of Terror and Spider-man. There are faster rides out there, but these three really nail it on the head when it comes to atmosphere.

The stunt show is good fun. But I skipped it last time and would not go as see it again, unless I was tired of walking/it was raining.

Id love to see the Indy ride at MGM.

havent heard anything & personally i like the indiana jones stunt show, i wouldnt mind the addition of the ride from CA but would definetly like to keep the show too.

I can confirm that the Dinosaur track is pretty much IDENTICAL to the track used at IJ at DL. However, Dinosaur is a cheap / budget squeezed version of the EMV ride featured in Adventureland at DL. First, the lights are kept super dark in Dinosaur to hide the cheap / under-themed and minimally decorated sets, there is no decent theming to the queue or pre-show area, and, overall, it just lacks any sort of memorable substance. Even though I enjoy the opportunity to experience the EMV type ride while in Florida, it's just another attraction which shows evidence of Eisner's stranglehold on the park budgets which occurred in the last 6 or 7 years of his rule over the board. Just look at the lack of e-ticket attractions at the AK, the cheap looking and nasty "un-Disney" feel evident in the Dinorama area, the lousy cardboard cutout sets used for the theming of the RNR, Buzz's Space Ranger Spin's lack of audio-animatronics (unlike the one just opened in Cali), and the utter failure and continued low attendance numbers at California Adventure due to an obvious amount of creativity / budget restrictions.

The year leading up to and the 50th itself has brought many positive changes to the parks. I am glad to see a real nice E-ticket going up at the AK (EE) and, if you read the recent article at miceage.com outlining the MAJOR OVERHAUL that is about to take place at Cali Adventure, you will see that they are really pushing for better days at all the parks.

The last rumor I heard in regards to the Studios via a popular podcast (with some decent in-park sources) was that they are going to demolish the Drew Carey sound experience (thank goodness) and the building next to it in order to put in the park's next E-ticket attraction. I think they said it would be Indy in theme to compliment the stunt show which doesn't have any plans of going away.

Now, if we can just get one more e-ticket over at that big unused space in Fantasyland at the MK, we'd all have something to cheer about.

The Indy ride in Cali is one of THE BEST attractions in Disney's basket. I was super impressed with such an old ride when I finally got to experience DL for the first time this year. I think it will stand the test of time for years to come. It's amazing from the time you walk into the queue to the time you leave the attraction. In all honesty, the MK in Florida cannot even hold a match to DL. I love the MK, but Walt's original pretty much wins in the detail, charm, and quality department.

Don't get me wrong, WDW still holds a special place in my heart and I have a lot of hope for some great things to come...heck, I hold an AP on both coasts and have spent a month and a half total in the parks this year alone...just cannot get enough.

crazyj, don't even get me STARTED about Disney and their changes. I know this is off topic and I am sorry, but I have only once been more angry than I was Nov. 9 when I went on the incredibly lame "Stitch's Great Escape" (previously Alien Encounter....an AWESOME show that I never got sick of going on). They changed the bad mamma jamma "S.I.R." (voiced by the wonderful Tim Curry) robot into a pansy wussy little robot boy who "oils himself" in fear. All my favorite effects, like the voice behind you saying "don't eat me, eat THIS one!" and you feel you chair getting kicked; and the glass exploding after them saying 'it's unbreakable!" ...oh, so awesome...are gone. And replaced with cutesy crap. I'm sorry, it made me so mad I was ready to leave the park (after going on C.O.P....which I knew would be the same :)). The only time I was madder was when I rode the re-vamped Journey into Imagination at Epcot, my favorite ride as a kid (Figment is still my fave Disney World character). I actually cried about the new one, and I was in my 20's. Sorry, but I'm a sentimentalist and I hate when my favorite attractions are changed for no apparent reason. I can understand the reasoning behind Stitch...okay maybe the Alien was too scary for kids, and they wanted to replace it with a tamer experience and a recognizable Disney character. That's great and all, and I'm sorry, but Stitch is not scary. I like to be scared (don't like thrill rides, just like scary stuff like A.E.). I was also upset when they changed Mr. Toad's Wild ride to Winnie the Pooh, but I am okay with that because I know that no kids know who Mr. Toad is (I was not even familiar with the Wind in the Willows as a child...I just loved the ride :)). Kids know and love Pooh, and along with Figment, Pooh is my other favorite character, and the ride was definitely an improvement. I just hope I get a chance to go to Disney Land before they take it away there, so I can reminisce  . I live near WDW and have only been to California once (went to DL) when I was very young, about 7 or 9.

I'm stepping off my soapbox now. To keep on topic, I would just like to add that I will forgive Disney for Stitch's Great Escape if they put the Indy ride at MGM without removing the Stunt Show....but I will NEVER forgive them for Journey into Imagination. The old ride was beautiful, fun, and awesome (the dreamfinder on the blimp sequence....pure genius) and the new one is a travesty. I dont' think I have EVER waited in line for that one, except maybe when it first opened. Nowadays no matter how crowded EPCOT is, you can walk right on to that ride. And I do when I'm ready for a little nap.

What does EMV stand for? I think it's the name for the type of ride vehicle in Dinosaur and Indy, but I'm not sure and have no idea what it stands for. And what is the EMV ride in adventureland at DL that you mentioned?
