I've heard there are "snakes" on the Indiana Jones ride. Could someone explain? Thanks.

I'm also curious about this ride. How similar to Dinosaur is it? I was pregnant the only time we've been to DLR, so I didn't get to ride it. My husband said it was awesome though! I plan to ride it this time and hopefully my 6yo ds will be able to ride it too! He's right at about 46 inches!

I haven't ridden it in a few years now because there is a little one with me, but I can remember one very large snake. :) It is a must ride if you can, IMO.

Yes, one very large snake that sort of lunges at you. If snakes bother you, sit on the left side of the car. Snake is on the right.

Oh, and the car and the motion are very similar to Dinosaur, but I like Indy much better. Better storyline, more variety in the scenes, and a great soundtrack. Definitely worth doing.

I love this ride! It is similar to the Dinosaur ride at AK - same type of ride vehicle, etc. It's a pretty bumpy ride with sudden turns and dips. There is an area with snakes including one really big animatronic snake that snaps at your car when it slows down. My 10 year old was a little freaked out by the ride but agreed to go again.

Thank you very much for this tip. I am *deathly* afraid of snakes and may have fainted if I didn't know this. I was excited about this ride, but I'm not sure I'll be able to go on :sad1:

So, my 6yo has done Dinosaur and was fine. Is this ride too scary? If he rides, I'll have to remember to sit him on the lefthand side. If he doesn't ride we may just do single rider for dh and I to get the line done quicker. I read that single rider is much faster than fastpass.

I am TERRIFIED of snakes. :scared1:When we go to the zoo I cannot even go into the reptile rooms.
That being said, I can handle this ride. My brain realizes that a 40 foot snake with a 6 foot head (okay, it may be smaller than that, but that's what is in my head) and glowing eyes doesn't actually exist and I have no problems. I still don't look up at it though. :rotfl2:

The track for Indy and the track for Dinosaur are identical bolt to bolt.
And both use the same ride vehicles.

Like others have stated, yes.... there are snakes. But if you don't try to pet it, or make it angry, then it (They) will leave you alone. The last time I visited Indy, well... I have no problemo whatsoever with said snakes, but... the guy sitting next to me did... and how! Let me tell ya... first he almost fainted, then I thought he was going to lose his cookies, (So not pleasant shudder!) he then proceeded to become deathly white, because no matter how hard I tried to tell him that he doesn't have to worry about the snakes, even the huge one lunging at us, and no matter how hard I attempted to talk him down... alas... but to no avail...his white pallor was soon replaced with a most remarkable shade of green, more like a greenish almost alien like looking color. Then he became sick, luckily I had a paper bag handy, which I quickly gave to him, and gladly at that, where upon he thanked me, and then excused himself to the side of the vehicle... well the rest is best imagined than realized believe me.... after he was done with his sickness, he then continued to scream, and like a little girl mind ya... he was about 40 I would say, now the little girl sitting next to me, started laughing at the guy, I tried not to laugh, but it really was a funny sight to behold. A little scary too though, because I was wearing white. And was out of shout. So the ride continues, he is yellin, and screaming the little girl and me are laughing our butts off. The man is pleading with those that one cannot see, asking for the ride to be stopped. I asked him are you kidding? This ride takes longer to get on it, then it does to go through it. But I can empathize with your situation, for TOT makes me a tad bit queasy. Anyway.... the ride comes to a stop, and the man cannot get off fast enough. He then proceeded to kiss the ground, the same way that the pope does when he disembarks from an airplane, or just missed getting pelted by someone or something in his motorcade. Anyway.... I and the others that were around the man tried to be supportive, but it was very hard indeedy! We could not believe how scared he really seemed to be, when confronted with a fake snake.
In the meantime... clean up aisle 3..... As I and others shook our heads in disbelief thinking and saying it is not a real snake....a CM said actually the huge snake use to be real at one time, she was imported from Bali, just for this expedition. And that she was a mama snake, who had many a baby, many of whom can be seen today in the snake pit down below. Unfortunately one day, she became sick from someone's Dole whip, where upon she was never quite the same, then a few weeks later she died, right in the middle of the ride too. She fell clean over upon several jeeps, and scared the bejeezus out of some of the riders.
Disney had to shut down the ride, where upon they took her body outside, to preserve her as best as they could. Disney had her taxidermied. The preservation job was most A-1! As we can all see.

Again... do not worry.... she won't bite you... but her babies... well just stay inside your jeep, and all should be fine... well until one must encounter angry natives with spheres that have poisoned arrows. Then there are the bats that fly in the thousands... but then that is another animal tale... Have fun!

I think your 6 year old will be fine. Everyone is scared of different things of course, but I personally thought Dinosaur was much scarier. Certainly Dinosaur is darker, and it lacks the friendly soundtrack.

As for seating, I'd probably put a kid in the middle if you're worried about the fear factor. Most of the effects (spiders, spears, etc) are on the sides, so I'd aim for a middle seat with a first-time little one.

Not to over think it though...I'm sure he'll do great if he likes Dinosaur.

Gisele, you totally made my day. This was HOWL-OUT-LOUD funny to me. :lmao:

I might try and go on and be sure to stay to the left. I hope I don't put on a performance like the one you witnessed!

My adult cousin is also deathly afraid of snakes, and he talked to a nice man next to him in line who had been on the ride before to please tell him when the snake was coming up. He just closed his eyes during the snake part and enjoyed the rest of the ride. Maybe you could go on with someone who can warn you?

Gisele-what a great story! I may be afraid of snakes but not enough to toss my cookies.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I'm going to sit on the left side and have my DH warn me so I can close my eyes. Not going to let it make me miss a great ride!

Theres no live snakes or anything that even closely resembles live snakes. As some have said there is a huge anamatronic snake who's head moves forward towards the right side of the car as you pass by. To me its not a very realistic looking snake nor particularly scarey looking but small kids could be scared.

The only part our kids ever got slightly scared through was the hallway with simulated spears flying by. They always held their heads down low through that part. In reality its only blasts of air and some sound effects.

The ride car is nearly identicle except in color and trim to Dinasaur and movement is very similar. The ride itself is completely different theme.

You know what? Of the dozen times or so that I've been on Indy, I only noticed the really big snake that lunges at right hand side of the car. Where are there little snakes on the ride? Anyway, the first time I rode Indy, I sat on the front row toward the right and was quite startled by the snake. If you are afraid, sit on the left hand side toward the back and you should be okay ;)

Our kids insist on sitting in the middle seats, with my wife and I on the outside. They are more afraid of falling out with all the shaking than the effects though.

My first impression of this ride was "Mr Toad's on steroids," but then Mr Toad's has always been one of my favorite rides.

Dinosaur is WAY rougher (making it more fun IMO) and a lot darker and scarier. Indy is a blast though. A real rip roaring adventure! There are a few snakes (one BIG one) but you go by them so fast even if you have a phobia it shouldnt bother you (just look away when the time comes). :3dglasses
