Indiana Jones Experience in DLR vs. Dinosaur in WDW

I was hoping you guys could help me with an issue i'm seeming to have. The vehicles for Indy and Dinosaur look rather similar, at least in the images i conjured up on AllEars, and I know they both are considered rough rides. I've been on Dinosaur and I left the ride with tears and huge bruises on my thighs because of how rough it actually ended up being.

Is the roughness of Indiana Jones similar to Dinosaur in any way? I really don't want to miss it because it's not at WDW (and this is my first trip to Disneyland since I was a youngster), but I want to make sure I won't be getting hurt on it. Any and all help is appreciated!

I have no clue about the ride at WDW, but Indy is one of my favorite favorite rides. Granted you do get bounced around a bit, but I've never gotten bruises. I like the bouncing around part I just go with the flow like I'm really doing it and let my body move with the motions and it's so much fun. I love that ride, it's the best!!! I hope you have a similiar experience!!

I have ridden both, IJ is a far superior ride to the Dinosaur ride at AK. The theming and queue are amazing on IJ. With that being said IJ is bumpy like Dinosaur so I don't know if you would like that part as it does jerk you around a bit.

I love Indy and I'm a wimp and have never had a bruise...I've heard the big difference between the two is that Indy has periods where the car stops, go backwards, shakes, etc., and Dinosour doesn't. When I go to WDW in Jan I'll give Dinosaur a try. BTW, on our ABD Backstage Magic we toured the Indy shop and the cars for Indy and Dinosaur are exactly the same.

We were at Disneyland in June. Everyone in my family rode the IJ ride and loved it even my son that doesn't really like rollercoasters and "thrill" rides. We had to ride it several times. It is a bit bumpy and if you bruise easily, you might get one. But, it really is an awesome ride. You should try it once so you can say you did it!

Technically, Indy doesn't go backwards. If it did, the whole ride system would shut down. It's actually a very clever visual effect. ;)

I have been on both and I found Dinosaur to be much more scary and it had many more random, long dark places. Indy has much better theming and a better ride experience as a whole. As for bumpiness, they are about the same. You can always minimize the bumpiness by sitting towards the center of the ride vehicle. :thumbsup2

That is a hard one. First, I agree with everyone else that the bumpiness factor is the same between Dinosaur and IJA. In fact the first few times I rode IJA I did not like it for that reason. For me it was an acquired taste. Now it is my second favorite ride at DLR after POTC.

I think most would agree with me that IJA is such a great ride that you need to try it at least once. Just to see. Make sure your seatbelt is tight and you hold on tight. And sit in the middle.

But if you are really concerned because of Dinosaur you may need to skip IJA.

Indy for me is extremely bumpy and jerky, I do not go on it much because it hurts my back. Never been bruised by it though. :goodvibes

I did read once that the vehicles and ride system are the same for both attractions. They are decorated and programmed differently of course. Having ridden both multiple times, I can say that they are both jerky and somewhat rough, but Indiana Jones at DLR is a far better attraction IMHO. I wish they would put it at DHS in place of the Indy stunt show.

I have to agree that they are similar in the bumpy factor! You have to ride Indiana Jones though...it is great...just hold on tight!

I hope you go on this attraction. It is really good. I recommend that when you get to the front of the queue ask the CM to sit you where you are less apt to get jarred from the ride (maybe 2nd row center - something like that).

I rode Dinosaur last May, and the ride is definitely more scary, and that could add to the whole effect of getting bumped around, etc.

I agree with Mary Jo. Dinosaur is scarier and darker. What makes IJ so stunning is how open the "building" is inside. Your eyes take in so much all at once. The visual effects are great and it is far more fun than Dino. You'll get jostled for sure, but I would recommend trying it at least once.

Another thing I remember about Dinosaur is that it was SO loud. I remember in the picture almost everyone in the car (including myself!) had their ears covered. :rotfl: While IJA is loud, I can ride it comfortably without feeling the need to cover! As others said, the theming is incredible and I would encourage you to try it, just once.

If you felt Dino was too rough Indy will be no better.

Just sit in the middle seats and hold on!

How are you getting bruised? What exactly is bruising you? That sounds awful.

I don't hold onto anything with Indy. The times I tried it, I got off in pain.

Instead, I do up the seatbelt, I plant my feet, sit "up" on my bottom bones (LO, that sounds funny), and just go with the flow, like I'm riding Western on a horse. When I ride "English", trying to keep my body as still as possible, that's when I get hurt.

I've actually been known to feel BETTER after Indy than I felt before; it's like a lovely adjustment for me!

My brother and SIL, both younger and much more in shape than I am, come off it in pain, b/c they hold on...

What's really weird is that the height requirement for Indy is 46", but the requirement for Dinosaur is only 40".

I didn't think they were that different. Same ride vehicle, same restraints.

I can attest to the bruising on indy. I have walked away with massive bruises on my thighs from being thrown against the grips on the seats.

What's a little bruising when you are having a great time on an amazing ride. Consider it a battle scar... or a temporary souvenir.

I believe it has to do with California's tight restrictions on amusement park rides, but I could be wrong.

The ride track for Dinosaur is an exact clone of the ride track for Indy. If Dinosaur gives you problems and you can't ride it, you probably don't want to ride Indy. My mom doesn't ride Indy very often because of the jerkiness of the ride, and she liked Dinosaur at AK.
