What is the pool like at the Holiday Inn Harbourside like in Indian Rocks? Is it zero entry? How big is the pirate ship? Is it in the pool? Slide? Also how is the walk to the beach? Parking at the beach? Nice , safe beach? Restaurants within walking distance? Thanks :sunny:

Don't know about this hotel, maybe they would have that info on their website?

We last stayed at the HI Harbourside in 2002.

The pool is zero entry on the one end, and it is very shallow at that end of the pool. The pirate ship is very nice, and it has a small slide. My daughter went down that slide so much, she wore out the seat of her bathing suit! She loved it, she was about 2 years old.

The other end of the pool is very large, It is a free-form shape, and it goes deeper as you get away from the shallow end. It is a really nice pool area with many lounge chairs. Also, there is a pool bar right there for cocktails and pop.

There is also another pool, which is nice too, its a plain rectangle shaped pool, but there is a nice hot tub there. Both pools require ID for use, which is nice because there were people trying to get in to the pool, and were turned away.

The beach is very very nice, and is about a 3-5 minute walk down a nice residential type street. There is a public beach access path that you use to get down to the beach. It's not a far walk at all, even with a cooler and "beach stuff" in tow.

Also, kids eat for free off of the child menu, at the restaurant in the Holiday Inn. They have good food, but slow service.

The hotel is very clean, and very nice. We will definetly be staying there again.

Oh, I forgot,

there are public beach's all along the coast, that will have large parking lots and changing facilities/bathrooms. I'm not exactly sure where the closest one is, but there is a nice beach called Treasure Island Beach, about 5-10 miles south of Indian Rocks Beach, we went there and it was very nice, and they had parking and bathrooms.

We also went north to Clearwater Beach. I was not impressed. It was much more crowded, and had alot more younger people with radios... playing vollyball.... I'd rather stay south of Clearwater Beach, I think it's more family oriented.

One place, called Sand Key Park, is also supposed to be a great beach, but we didn't go there. It's about 3 miles north of Indian Rocks.

Siesta Key is about 20 miles South of St. Petersburg, (I think), and that is an award winning beach, famous for it's "sugar" sand.

We just got back from four nights there and we absolutely loved it. If you plan to stay there, be sure to check out the rates on their website. If you book far in advance you can get a very good rate and the prices I was quoted over the phone were MUCH higher than their website.

While we were there, kids did NOT eat free but maybe that changes with the season. The kids meals were 4.89 and we had great service.

We drove up to Clearwater and walked around Sand Key before having to catch our flight. I thought that area was very congested and way too built up with too many high rise condos. I just didn't like the area that much. Indian Rocks Beach was more my style..very laid back. I would have liked to drive douth as I've heard good things about John's Pass and beaches in that area.

We ate in the restaurant there in 2002, it was great.
If you like the beach go over to Caladesi Island, its idyllic, the dolphins swam past not far off shore, the sand was lovely and its not commercialised.
