I've looked around on here but haven't seen mention of them yet. Anyone booking w/them? They offer $25 off the first flight if you sign up for their ff card. Are there usually age requirements for these clubs? It might be a good deal for us if I can sign up each of the kids as well as the adults. Flying out of Dulles would be so close & save us parking fees.

I've been watching them too since Dulles is our airport of choice. Presently they have no plans to fly into Orlando. When they do, I'll take another look at them. With FlyI and TED being the only 2 non-stops out of Dulles, I am glad to see some competition.

I've heard their ads on the radio in the Norfolk area. Does anyone know if they're doing the hub system and where there hubs are, or will they be more like Southwest without large hub cities?

What I find amusing on their ads is the claim that they are bringing low fares to several cities that have high air fares, yet they are flying into Norfolk and not Richmond, which has much higher air fares than Norfolk or Newport News. Well, hopefully they'll add Richmond soon.

I checked them out, and the only airport in Florida they have plans for is Jacksonville. A flight from Boston to Jacksonville stopped in Washington, but I didn't check which airport. Prices were pretty high, $99 each way before taxes.
I think I'll stick with Song direct flights for $87.

I believe their hub is Dulles/Wash. At least that's what all of the advertising is saying. They do plan to add additional routes in the fall, so will wait and see.

Independence Air was formally known as Atlantic Coast Airlines (ACA). Under the ACA banner, they flew as a regional airline for United and I believe Delta. Under United, they were more commonly known as United Express.

Their fleet currently consists of CRJ-200 regional jets but they have larger jets on order. If I recall, they are going to go with either the Airbus A319 or A320. The CRJ-200 generally holds up to 50 seats in a two by two seating configuration. By the way, carry on bags for the CRJ consist of rolling your bag out to the airplane and having it taken by the baggage loader. When you arrive at your destination, the bag is then waiting for you as you disembark from the airplane. Roll on's will not fit in the luggage compartment above because the space is too small. This is the process with United Express and every other carrier I've flown with that utilizes CRJ's so I assume Independence Air will follow suit. My one complaint on the CRJ-200 is the position of the passenger windows. They are somewhat lower than on most other aircraft and if you like to look out the window, you can expect a sore neck by the end of the flight! The CRJ-700 model has corrected this problem but Independence has no plans to fly them. The airplane is wonderful plane though and pilots love to fly them. On-board, you can expect to have 1 flight attendant unless Independence plans to add more. One should be plenty though as it does not take long to serve a drink and snack to 13 rows of people.

Dulles is their hub.

ACA terminated their relationship with United and branched out on it's own. Independence Air is the new name they chose.

Thanks for all the info! I didn't know what their history was & a little leery of unknowns. Somewhere it said they plan to add several FL routes in the fall so I'm assuming Orlando or nearby would be a popular choice.

It seems like some of the lower cost carriers don't offer great options in DC. I looked up one- they wanted to send us on a layover through CHICAGO to get to Orlando! :o
