I JUST changed my reservations to get the lower fares! I LOVE  LOVE SWA!!

Ugh! I just booked my round trip flight to Orlando (from BWI) about 2 weeks ago. At that time prices were $79 each way; now they are $$49.00 !!! Is there any way possible to keep the same flight, but take advantage of the new rate?? I paid by credit card, so could I just get a credit back for the difference?? I doubt that I will fly anytime after this trip, so getting a 'credit' to use on another flight is not going to 'save' me anything.

Any suggestions on how to get a refund back to my credit card?

Thanks!

Kelly

The only way to keep the same flight is if there is availability at the lower rate. That's what happened to me...I had the 12:10pm flight booked and now to take advantage of the lower fare I had to switch to the earliest flight left...5:30pm! Not the best, but I'll take it to save over $100! Good luck!

Okay, so I just called SWA and was told that they could cancel my current reservation and that would give me $120 credit to use within a year. BUT, I don't have plans to travel after this trip! Their system is still showing the $79 flights because they don't offer internet fares over the phone. I'm so confused!! So if I cancel my current reservation over the phone and rebook with the internet $49 special am I saving any money?! Would my credit card be credited with the FULL amount that I originally charged?? Or would the refund be minus the $120 'credit'?!
As you can clearly see, I've never booked a flight before!!! LOL Please offer me some advice!

Thanks!

Kelly

SW rules are that you get a credit good for up to a year. I do read on these boards that people have had success getting a refund processed to their CC, but that is not required and if you don't get the refund you really have no complaint.

However, SW credits are transferrable so if you have someone else in your family who wants to travel someplace they could pay your for the credit and use it.

If anyone else is flying they can use your credits. I just got the lower fair for us, and used the leftovers, to book my sister and her friend to Disney. They'll pay me back, and we'll all be happy. I didn't want the credit, because this was money left over from our "hurricane" cancelled flight, so I would have had to use it by June.

I couldn't quite get the good fares for my dates. I can get the $49 fare going down but not coming back.

David, can you tell what the different dates are for Independence? I'm not seeing and reductions at all.

Where did you find this fare? It is not on the website or through Ding?
Maybe my dates are different. (July)

Thanks!

I just saw my e-mail from Independence. If you book a Tues/Weds flight from Dulles, you may get a $49 rate. I put my dates in but got nothing cheaper than $89 each way.

Thanks Dave. Dates for this fare end in June and we are going in July (6-13).

I'll just keep watching. I did get this fare last year in July.

Thanks anyway!

Hope it works out for you..there were MANY cheap seats at 530 AM this morning.

$39 each way out of Nashville :cool1:

we went from driving to flying in about 30 seconds, LOL....it was $477 for 5 of us. I don't even want to think what the cost of gas would have been, plus Spring Break traffic on I-75, and 2 nights in a hotel. well worth it to fly! yay!

They were completely sold out for my dates by lunch time. Ended up with Northwest direct flights for $200 more for 5 of us. So I am still happy because I can take Magical Express with Northwest.

If you don't have to change the flights to get the lower fare (ie if you exact flights are available at the lower fare), cancel your reservation, rebook at the new rate and call customer relations (NOT reservations). Most times if it is a reduction in fare, they will credit the difference to your CC. The number can be found on SWA's web site.

I rebooked my flights today and got them for $79 each way! We saved $90 total..woooohooooo!! I did change the days a little but for the better.

We are going Sept 10-16, Do you think I will be able to get the same $49 one way price then? When should I wait till for booking?

pumba's mum

if the price of oil does not go through the roof.....we might still see 49$ fares......but nothing is for sure....

you just have to keep checking and looking .....and HOPING...

southwest hedges on jet fuel .....so "locks in" what it will pay many months in advance....but newer contracts for fuel may have to be reflected in air fare increases

Wow!!! My daughter and I are traveling from Jackson, MS. to Orlando in June. I booked two round-trip tickets for #357.80 in February. On March
8th I got "dinged" and re-booked for $316.62. Tonite I re-booked again
for $193.80. Same flight everytime, there's only one each day from Jackson.
At this rate by the time we go they will be paying us to fly. We now have
a $122.82 credit and rapid reward points. Hummmm, maybe a quick trip
for Halloween? :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:
