When will this happen?

We're STILL WAITING to hear if we passed ROFR (Disney's had it since 10/10!). We were planning to start with a 25 point add-on at first.

Remember: Guides are in the buisness of selling timeshares. They get paid in part based on how much they sell. Suggesting that now is a better time than later could be in part because they'd get paid now instead of later.

True, Disney's version of the timeshare salesman is a very benign instance of the genre, but still...

So this isn't a common practice when they open a new resort?

Allow small add-ons for existing members for a short while and then increase min. add-on later.

DVC has raised and lowered their minimum buy-ins several times over the years but the trend lately has been toward lowering the buy-in amounts, particularly this year. I believe at one point they lowered the minimum buy-in from 160 to 100 points during some promotions. What they typically do in my experience has been to raise the cost per point a time or two during the sale of a particular resort, but keep the minimum buy-in the same.

Who knows what they will do with the economy as it is currently.

Wilson Flyer - I missed most of Igers announcement. What did he say? I heard something about selling something off but what?? Thanks

I kinda listened to it out of the corner of my ear on CNBC so I missed the part about them selling anything off.

He basically just said that advertising revenues were WAY down (ESPN, ABC, etc.) which is a HUGE portion of Disney's revenue stream. Park attendence is WAY down (which we all already knew based on posts here and our own observations). He announced the 4+3 incentive for WDW and said they were suffering but stressed (for the stockholders' benefit) that Disney was not alone.

That's about it. Oh. He told everybody to go see Bolt on Nov 21 to help Disney's bottom line! :rotfl2:

It's relative easy to decipher from his comments that now is obviously not the time to be raising the price of anything Disney. ;)

So, right now the min add-on @ BLT is 25 pts. and none of you think that's going up anytime soon (like before Nov '09) even if Bolt is a smash hit.:happytv:

I think all of the discussion about raising the minimum buy-in was for first ("master") contracts, not add-ons. I think the minimum add-on has been 25 from the beginning; at least, I've never known it to be higher.

The minimum add-on for BLT is being raised to 100 pts, so you won't be able to do 25 pt addons there after Jan 15, 2009.

I got a mailer today.

It didn't say anything about an increase or decrease in the minimum number of points to buy-in.

:confused3
In this economy they are not going to raise anything, anytime soon.

Why not?

Disney should think about this as a long term asset. They should not "give it away" because the Ecomony is bad.

It's kind of like the folks I see cashing in thier 401Ks because the market dropped:confused3 You just went from a "paper" loss to a real loss. Had you held the funds chances are things will recover and your "loss" would have disappeared. Disney should do the same thing... don't sell the assets for cheap when waiting will allow them to get a more realistic value.

I was going to sell some points. I am sitting on them. The economy will recover and THEN I will list them...

TRUE! I received a message from my guide today. January 15 you will not be allowed to purchase less than 100 points for BLT. Not even if you pay cash. I guess they don't want a bunch of 25 pointers floating around.

Oh no!!! Panic, fret, wringing of hands

We still haven't heard if Disney let it through since they recieved the paperwork on 10/10! When I called last week my agent said the contrat sates we must close in 60 days so that could be as late as Nov 26th. Would I have enough time to do an add-on before Jan 15th?

We really wanted to build-up slowly. The plan was to buy enough BWV to stay studio until the baby's too old then add BLT in increments to spread out the cost and not have to finance (and get used to the extra MF costs while having to add another tuition cost)

Oh, no, what should I do? I really have a hard time committing to so many points at once, but I REALLY wanted to be able to stay at BLT at least one night each trip.

Are there no good tricks to speed upp the process? I even tried to Google the sellers names and only made myself worry more because I found an obituary dated one day after our fax. What if it had to go through probate?!?!

Oh wow, this is starting to sound a bit weird. I think I need a new hobby other than checking my email, the Disboard, my mailbox, repeat x10/day. Maybe I'll throw myself into my housework - it may not work as a distraction, at least the place will be clean.

If true, that would increase the resale value of all my 50-point BLT contracts!

Once we finally close and send our check and start waiting for the deed - it's my understanding that in 10 days to 4 weeks we'll probably be "in the system" and able to make reservations even though we may not have an actual hard copy of the deed.

Will we also be able to add-on as DVC members in that case or do we have to wait for the deed to come in the mail (which I hear can take quite a while)?

Darn I hope this is changed. We purchased 30 points and were looking at adding 40 or 50 more when we got the cash together earlier next year.

Exactly:thumbsup2

I have a co worker that I just helped with a new purchase. She bought 160 and then a 50 point add on. I told her yesterday about the change and that her 50 point contract would be in great demand if she ever wanted to sell it. She initially purchased 210 in one contract but I advised her to break it up.

I wasnt going to buy BLT, but I only buy small contracts so this would prevent me from doing a small add on in the future if we change our minds.

Originally. the minimum add on at your Home Resort was 25 points and a 50 point minimum for any other resort. That was changed to allow 25 point add-ons several years later and has ben that way since.

On January 15, 2009 BLT add-ons will have a minimum purchase off 100 points. There has been no suggestion that add-ons at any other resort will be affected by this change - the 25 point minimum will still be in effect at other resorts.
