Inconsiderate Cruisers

I'm surprised this whole room service plates discussion has gotten so much traction. Mainly because I find it surprising that so many people order room service on a cruise. We make it a point to spend as little time as possible in our stateroom. Plus, eating in such small confines is very far from ideal IMO. With food generally available at all times somewhere on the ship...I don't see much of a need for room service (the exception for me was, when on RCCL's Oasis of the Seas I came down with the flu and was quarantined to the room {that was fun...not} and had no choice but to get room service if i wanted to eat). I understand, during overnight hours, room service is the only option on DCL. However, if you're putting plates out in the hall at say 1am, I'm sure they'll have picked them up by 6am, so very few if any people are actually going to see the dirty plates then.

Obviously you have never had a room with a verandah : )

True, but it seems you cannot ever walk down a stateroom hallway without bumping into one or more stateroom attendants at any given time. I've seen trays left untouched for hours with attendants bustling about.

I wonder whose responsibility it is to get those out of the way. Is it the SA assigned to that particular room, or is every SA tasked with collecting a tray they see in the hallway regardless of whether it's from one of their assigned rooms or not? Or is someone else supposed to pick these up?

Yes, I agree. I feel the stateroom attendants should pick them up to a central location.....

My personal favorite are the parents that allow their children to run up and down the hallways outside of the staterooms yelling loudly at all hours of the morning and night. I was even awakened one morning at 3:58 a.m. by a young girl running up and down the hallway outside our door laughing loudly. Not sure what there is to do at that time of night or why she was out there.

OMG YES THIS! And not just the hallways and the stairs but messing with the Elevators. I can't tell you how many times I got in an elevator on the WBPC last year to have a child (more like pre-teen) say "sorry" and quickly hurry out and me see that every single button had been pushed.

My others are the trays in the hallways, and kids in adult areas, especially Cove Cafe, which is clearly labeled as adults only. I don't care if you are getting your coffee to go, your kid isn't supposed to be in there.

we've always had a verandah room and always wonder why we have it b/c we're never there but to sleep and shower.

Agreed. We don't usually have a verandah. However, when we do have one, it doesn't change anything. We spend as little time as possible in the stateroom.

....and waiting.....and WAITING for our luggage group to be called.

Off topic, but I think my family and I may have gotten off of the boat incorrectly. We just ate breakfast and then walked off of the boat. Were we supposed to wait for Daisy (our tag character) to be called? This was Port Canaveral, so maybe a different routine than San Diego?

How does that work? Do I list it on Airbnb?

Actually, it would be Seabnb (hourly page). Depending on your cruise group's pre-cruise communication methods, you may be able to set something up ahead of time. This could actually lead to an entire new section for the cruise meet forums.

PS - Love the Seinfeld-Disney hybrid quote on your user name.

Did you have your luggage with you? If so then you did it correctly. If not, if you just walked off and then picked up your luggage then yes, you skipped the line lol But sounds like you didn't know so that's ok, we'll let it slide :rotfl2:No malicious intent, it's all good! :thumbsup2

We didn't have our luggage and there was no line, just about 20 people sitting around in the atrium. This was right after the early breakfast. I would feel really bad, but we honestly didn't inconvenience anyone as there was no line to get off of the ship, or to scan our KTTW, or even at customs. This was around 7:50 and we were in the car and on our way by 8:10.

We have never waited for a tag to be called. I've never heard a tag called. People are picking up luggage at all different character spots at any given time. We always skip breakfast. We're always in the first group after the walk offs, go pick up our luggage and leave. Nobody has ever told us differently because I'm pretty certain there *is* no "differently".

In different ports (San Diego, as well as San Pedro come to mind), we were asked to wait for our luggage tags to be called before debarking and picking up our bags. I don't recall that being necessary at Port Canaveral, however.

That would make sense for San Diego, then. The space at Port Canaveral is *huge* and can accommodate a *lot* of people at the same time. Their customs people are really efficient too.

Ive never heard a character call at PC.
Varies from line to line also. Weve been on several Carnival cruises, and weve had to wait for our area to be called. Never understood why but it could be a occupancy thing, (DCL enlarged the baggage rooms for the Dream class but not the terminal itself, go figure) not enough porters or the way a bldg. is designed. I asked the Brand Ambassador why on his FB page but never got his reply. Another loyal CC chimed in but his answer didn't make sense.

My Love for DCL was formed about an hour into our first cruise. My family had lunch in Cabanas. We had a 1 year old at the time, so there was definitely a mess when we finished. I got down on my hands and knees to pick up the crumbs off the floor. A cast member came over and insisted I stop. I argued that it was ok, I always pick up after our children. The cast member BEGGED me to stop and let him clean it up. I actually thought his supervisor must be watching him and he'd get in trouble if I didn't stop. I looked at my husband and said "Wow, this is what vacation feels like."

Fast forward to the end of the week at Cataway Cay. I was walking out of Cookies, with the 1 year old on my hip and dropped a tray full of food. (What made me think I could balance all that?). I immediately bent down to pick it up, within seconds there were several cast members there helping to pick up the mess. One cast member lead me back into Cookies, helped me serve a new plate, and find a seat.

I loved the service we received and how the cast members took care of us. But I would never purposely leave behind a mess for them to take care of. It's just common curtesy to pick up after yourself. And those cast members who appreciate that sort of curtesy. They are humans too, not our personal servants.

The bold is one of the things I find inconsiderate. Adults plopping their kids onto the Quiet Cove barstools while ordering drinks. There are other bars. Pool attendants had to chase kids out of the adult pool while parents were at the bar. They know the rules, they just don't care. DCL put that area there for adults to enjoy,
