My DH and I are seriously thinking about buying 160 points at AKV. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's my understanding that if we buy we could choose between the matching number of developer points at SSR or a 3-night cruise. We would have a referral.

This is where my question comes in. I'm finding conflicting expiration dates on the developer points. dvcnews.com has the expiration date as 10/3/09, but I've read here that they expire in 12 months. Which one is correct? Also, if the points expire on 10/3/09, does that mean we can check in on 10/3/09 and still be able to use our points for that week? (I know WDW resorts will let you do that, I just wasn't sure about DVC.)

Thanks so much for your help!

I just added on points this month at BLT and got the matching DP's since the cruise dates would not work for me.

My DP's had to be used by 10/3/09, so I was not given 12 months to use them. Since I am using them in August, I can't answer your question about starting travel on the 3rd, but my feeling is that you probably need to complete travel by that date.

You may want to just call DVC, or, if you already have a guide, your guide, to clarify those things.

Good luck with your purchase!

The DVC developer points would need to be used by the expiration date. If they expire on 10/3/09, that would need to be the final night of the stay using those points. This is true of any DVC reservation using points. If you have an October Use Year, the points need to be used by September 30 or they will expire unless you are able to bank them. In this case, Developer points may not be banked.

For 160 points, you should get a 4 night cruise. At least that is what we were offers for 125 BLT points. However we picked DP's.

Just got off the phone with Disney and the DPs expire on October 3rd 2009
Maybe a Boat ride would be fun:confused3

You must already be an owner. I think the OP is a new member and therefore would have to buy 160 and only eligible for the 3 day cruise. Believe me I would be all over the four day for 160 if it was available!

Thanks for the help! My DH (Hazzard101) called MS and asked about the developer points. They do need to be used by 10/3/09. Since we're thinking about a Fall Break trip, we would need to check in on that date, and the points wouldn't work for that trip.

My DH also left a message the other day for the guide we toured with in September. He has not called us back yet, so if we don't hear from him by tomorrow, we will call and request another guide.

Thanks again for the help!

I thought I read somewhere that you could get the developer points and the cruise. Am I wrong? Also, will they only mention the cruise offer if you bring it up first? I understand you need to have a referral.

No, we bought today and were given the choice of developer points or a 3-night cruise. We chose the developer points. If you choose a cruise, you need a referral.

Congratulations! We put down our deposit today, and our guide was able to give us our Member ID number. We've already reserved a trip for SSR in May, and we also reserved an October trip to AKV. Since the 7-month window opens tomorrow for October, we were encouraged to go ahead and book.

I don't see this option mentioned, but we were told that you could use the developer points to book a future cruise if it was booked by October 3, 2009-if you wanted to use them towards a WDW trip you have to travel by October 2, 2009. Does this sound right?
