Inaugural Western 5/11/02 Who is going?

Gotta figure out again what I am going to do in GC. I decided to cancel the morning excursion and just go with the 1:45 Captain Marvins. This gives us the whole morning and part of the afternoon to fill up. May just hit the beach and shopping, but I guess I will have to play it by ear. What do ya'll think?

'Morning everyone!

CMATT: I think I'm going to have to defer the R&D position to J&J - I think Joe is doing a better job, plus I don't need any legal entanglements just before I leave the country! :D

jennifersmith23: I'm pretty notorious for overplanning, so one thing I wanted to do with this trip was to not plan EVERYTHING. This leaves us free time to explore, shop, eat, whatever. On GC we're going on the Stingray City and Island Tour, but am thinking about renting a couple of scooters afterwards. "Soto Scooters Ltd., Seven Mile Beach (345/945-4652), at Coconut Place, offers Honda Elite scooters for about $30 daily, and bicycles for $15 daily." I'm sure we can rent them somewhere in George Town as well. :)

J&J: (From page 52):
Have to wait awhile for the L1011
I was an airplane again last evening and didn't even know it - have to go edit that post! :D

Have a great day everyone! :Pinkbounc :bounce:

- Jim

P.S. The moderators are working to get the new Countdown Timer solution in place. It should be within the next couple of days. They'll post a message about how to do it when they're all set up.

HookedonMagic: I didn't know there was another Tim & Lisa!!! kewl :D

Jennifer, maybe we can go over the Capt. Marvin's together. We're on the 1:00 half day excursion! I just plan on hanging around the ship, maybe poking around the shops the rest of the time.

I guess I didn't know (or maybe I just killed that brain cell) that Deb Wills was on our cruise. I assume she's THE DEB WILLS, who has a big WDW web site? That's so neat! I did know that the people who write the passporter are going to be on the cruise too.

And whoever (I think it was jennifer) mentioned the lithographs for us, that's what Barb said after one of her earlier cruises, so I'm crossing my fingers!

Joe-

I sent you a PM with details. My family and I will be on the Inaugural with all you folks. Sounds like great fun. Thanks for all the great info. TKDLisa I am Lisa too!

Ok, I need some suggestions on what to do on the day we get back into port.

We should be back to the Orlando Airport by 11:00 AM, but our flight isn't until 5:10 PM :(. I was thinking of hitting Downtown Disney, but not sure what to do with the bags - will they let us check them that early?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!
- Jim

I think I will throw caution to the wind and just wing it... I am, like you Jim, an obsessive planner. Everything has got to be worked out before. This is a huge step for me. lol... I think we will just check out the public beaches and shopping in GC before captain marvins. They will pick you up at seven mile beach.

CMatt is back to his normal self I see. Postin 20 x a day. Nice to have you back. Only 16 days 19 hours and 16 minutes till we leave for port. I can't wait. I am VERY excited at this point. Keep telling myself to be patient...It'll be here before you know it, and be over even faster **sigh**.

Oh Well!!!

:) :p :) :p   :jester: :smooth:

CMATT: According to the book I have, things aren't necessarily cheap in Cozumel. A single roll of film was $9 at the International Pier, if that tells you anything.

"You can walk from the pier at Muelle Fiscal to the best shops in San Miguel. Because of the influx of cruise ship passengers, prices are reletively high here, but you can and should bargain."

It goes on to say that Silver jewelry is big business there, "... but again, don't expect to pay peanuts for it."

"Casablanca, Avendida Rafael Melgar 33 (located in front of the International Pier), has a fine selection of Mexican jewelry and loose stones, plus a well-chosen collection of Mexican crafts."

One shop they do suggest for souveniers is Viva Mexico in San Miguel.

From a web site (A Site on Shopping in Cozumel):

The best shops in Cozumel are located in San Miguel's waterfront area and on the Malecon (seaside promenade). This area contains a vast selection of items, everything from upscale crystal and resort wear stores to quality Mexican goods. In addition to the shops along the waterfront, make sure you explore the side streets to find the unique independent stores. At the main square, you'll find Plaza del Sol, a public market. Nearby are two mini-malls, also.

By shopping carefully, jewelry fashioned with Mexican silver and turquoise can be good buys. When buying sterling silver, always make sure you see "925" stamped on the item. Gold items should be stamped with a set of two numbers and two letters (in any combination). This ensures the highest quality of metal.

There is one thing you should be aware of when shopping in Cozumel: although the island is famous for its beautiful black coral carvings and jewelry, it is banned in the United States because harvesting coral is extremely detrimental to the reefs. It takes hundreds of years to build coral reefs like the ones you'll see if you go scuba diving. If you buy any in Cozumel, it will be confiscated at customs when you come back to the States and you may be fined.

From yet another site (Yet Another Site Shopping in Cozumel):

Most of the places on the waterfront won't bargain, however, and because waterfront rents are so high, that's going to be reflected in the prices. For the best deals stroll down the side streets and up as far as around Avenida 15 and look for the same type items you liked on the waterfront. You're likely to find them here at much more reasonable prices. What's more, the shopkeepers will be more willing to bargain--especially if it's a family-owned establishment.

Hope this helps! :)

Jennifersmith23 are you working or playing today???

:) :) :bounce:

thanks cmatt

Thanks Psiklops I'll go back and check out those links you provided

just as i thought duty free means it cost them more to have things shipped in,, so they have to charge more ,, couldnt barter any of them down in the Bahamas the locals told me they shop in fla.

oh well better buy korena right here instead of mexico

thanks cmatt  :sunny: :earsboy: :earseek:

just really wanted to take less clothes,, buy cheap and leave it for lost and found on ship,,,,,

Jim how are you getting to down town dis , if you are using a car service they could possibly hold it for you at there office? just a sugg.

CMATT: Don't know how we'd get to Downtown Disney - I figured we could ask the Cruise Reps at the airport. Maybe they can hold our luggage there?

All: Ok, yet another question - does anyone know the dimensions of the inside of the room safes? I'm bringing my laptop and a few other valuables and want to make sure they'll all fit in there.

:Pinkbounc :bounce:

Thanks,
Jim

I know you can't fit a laptop in there, it is small.

Has anyone tried the Sea-Bands, I am thinking about getting some.

I'm a little nervous of nausea, on all the other cruises I have one day on each cruise that I would be nauseated. Patch never worked for me, it actually made me worse.

All I can think about these days is the cruise! :D :bounce: :Pinkbounc :jester:

CMatt - I am working and playing at the same time...haha...Although my head is in the clouds somewhere thinking about Disney Cruises and such.

Jim laptop will not fit in the safe it small ..
would just leave it in the room tucked away perhaps..
only 16 days til May 10 th
yippeeee

:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Psiklops I'am not sure how you could check on this before you go,, unless you could get someone from Dis to e-mail you back or fax you,, guest services on board might be able to check in and out with them????

I'am sure you must be worried about other guests maybe,,

because I think I would trusted my stateroom host or asst. on the Wonder with anything even my children she was so great

thanks cmatt:wave: :sunny: :earsboy: :earseek:

Don't they have safes at the pursers office? Like in a hotel you can give your money to front desk, even though there is a safe in your room?

16 more days till 5/10/02 WOOHOO

Am trying to plan Thanksgiving in Florida this year.
Hmmmm, SHould I do a WONDER cruise. Let me see how I like this one first.

Like I said, I'm panicking, about being sea sick, I'm coming prepared, just have to buy the ginger cookies now.

Jim...Are you renting a car from Avis on the way back? It's much cheaper, than Disney transportaion and since u have the time its worth it. You can always visit my MIL. Believe it or not, you can go there with pics of my kids and she'd be more than happy to see you and give you lunch LOL. Nah I forgot, you're there for fun. LOL
