All right....making first trip in the new camper this weekend! :cool1: and  and :confused3 Hope this will be one of many "practice" sessions before driving to Fort in September. I am going to try and keep track of how many times I say, "I should have brought that" or "I wish I had that" or "I need to remember to get one of those" ....lol. I've read plenty of checklists, and I have "must haves" from the dealership list, but I imagine it is still learn/figure out as you go. Looking forward to these close to home adventures....excited to get out there!:drive: by the time I visit the mouse, I will be less lost (I hope!) :thumbsup2

Enjoy!

And my attitude is, if I didn't bring it, either I didn't need it or there's probably a Wal-Mart not far away.

That list is gonna grow, then shorten, then grow again. Soon you'll find the list is dictated by where you go to camp.

For instance, I don't take my outdoor carpet to Gulf State Park or the Fort because of good smooth pads. While my local campgrounds use crushed stone so the carpet is a must.

I pack the leafblower when staying at places that have smooth concrete and leave it at home when stone lots are the norm.

You'll find your "generic" list will eventually settle down though.

We made our first trip last week. Before we even pulled into our site I knew I forgot something...a tablecloth and clips for the picnic table! It was the first of many items I didn't think to bring/buy. :)

Have fun!

Thanks all! Ahhh...CLIPS for the tablecloth...good one!

I didn't forget my tablecloth or clips...

Then the squirrels told me that "the 70's called, they want their cloth back". After that every time I heard a squirrel bark I just knew they were actually laughing...

Looking forward to seeing you. No worries on forgetting things here, it's Disney after all and you can buy lots if stuff at the Meadow Trading Post except for your prescriptions ....but, their is a Walgreens etc near by. :)

Enjoy it. I was so nervous pulling our camper the first time I didn't let my wife talk to me for 2 hours... lol. Now, I barely notice it's back there. Smart move making some short trips to work the bugs out. Camping is awesome.

Looks like my first site may be a pull through... lol (cheating!). That's ok...my driveway is more challenging than many sites will ever be! Off to Odetah Camp Resort in Bozrah, CT tomorrow!

Only thing I can recommend is keep and pad and paper in the truck and a pad and paper in the RV. Write down things you think you need, and on another page things that need repair/maintinence. Once your back home you can compile the lists and decide whats a must have from the shopping list and what are the big and small fixes on the repair page.

If its a new RV with warentee, keep a list of stuff for the dealer to look at when you bring it back for warentee work.

Sounds like good advice to me :thumbsup2

Passing on sound advice I was given when I bought my first RV. It really did save me from buying too much and prioritize the larger items finally deamed useful.

Definitely true. We live in CT and picked up our first camper (our Aliner) in WI and continued on to MN to visit family and friends. So all we had to camp with that first week was what we brought with us on the way out or picked up at Target. It reallt taught us about true needs vs. percieved needs!

We used our camper for the first time last weekend. DW has a huge list of things we need. We didn't go far, only about 25-30 minutes from home and only did 3 nights.

I made a trip to Wally-world today for a few things we needed (cutting board, big plastic spoon, measuring cup, big serving bowl, scissors. Also picked up a few of the $1 pack of hard plastic bowls and plates).

Our next trip is 250 miles to visit my sister who lives in northwest New Jersey for 4th of July. That will be 5 nights.

Oh yeah, absolute needs (cooking, water, dump hoses, TP, cleaning supplies) are all things you can run out for right away on first trip. But lots of other stuff put it on the list when and decide when you are home rather then heat of the moment. My first trip I had no issues using disposable plastic wear, but on the longer trips or when steaks are involved it is nice to have some real plates and utencils.

Other stuff like awning, cooking/grilling and true accesories are just that. And you put them on the wish list and pick them up when they are on sale for a great price, or when your budget allows you.
