I'm seriously laughing at this episode.

The premise of the show is that "don't you hate it when you go on vacation and come back to an empty fridge." So not only is she cooking and filling this couple's fridge with food, her friend got fresh flowers and put wood in the fireplace.

I'm sure people do things like this... it's a nice gesture. But she's making it sound like going on vacation is a terrible thing that you have to endure.

Couldn't they just order a pizza?!

(I find her strange and pretentious to begin with... so I'm sure that's part of the reason this is making me roll my eyes.)

The producers must go crazy coming up with new ideas for a theme, and some are just silly. I can look past all of it because I think Ina is a great cook and a good teacher. I have tried many of her recipes and they are almost all 'keepers'. She can be a bit pretentious with her artsy friends and her home in the Hamptons, but wouldn't I love to be invited to her house for dinner. ;)

Her voice drives me nuts, so I don't know that I'd be able to eat with her. LOL.

I agree as well...I think she really IS a good cook, but listening to her about drives me nuts. The other thing I've noticed is all of her friends are men. I've never seen her cook for any women friends before...not that it's bad, but on all the other food shows when they cook for friends or have an afternoon luncheon it's with women.

I am not much of a baker, I think she's more into baking than really "cooking" if that makes sense...I have a tendancy to skip over her show.:confused3

Ha... the one ep that I did seem with other women was weird. She kept telling them how good the food was. And I guess it's nothing that the other celeb chefs don't do, but it was just the way she went about it. I can't even explain it.

You know who I love?? Sunny Anderson.

I'm with you, Saphire! Most of the recipes that I've tried of IG's are fantastic. There's one with sauteed brussel sprouts/bacon/raisins that takes this often maligned veggie to a new level. Her lifestyle is certainly different than mine (look at who she's married to!) and the circle that she travels in, too. BUT I like her ideas on presentation and style. I can overlook her voice (unlike Paula Deen's voice which makes me want to run for cover!! and me, a southern girl!!!):goodvibes

When I think of or watch Ina Garten, I think of her as a modern classic.
She is a little over the top sometimes but I would love to dine at her home any day...

I like her. She laughs too much but I suppse giggles are not a bad thing! ;)

Her house is to die for, in my book!

I really like her show. Her food ideas are really good. The only thing she says that makes me crazy is her "use a good vanilla" line. I know what she's saying, but it drives me nuts anyway!

And I try to do that for my sister when she's away--it is a pain to go on vacation & come home to nothing to eat. So when my dad picks her & her family up at the airport, I send him with something easy for them to eat, and some staples like bread & milk. That way, they have one less thing to do when they get home, and they have basics for the next morning.

And did you know Ina was a nuclear policy analyst during the Carter administration....so she has a brainiac side to her besides gourmet food store owner and now cooking show host.

Wow, can you adopt me as your sister?! That is really, really nice of you! :thumbsup2

I just love Ina! One reason I like her so much is that she looks like she actually EATS! Her food looks good and I agree, her house is gorgeous. She can come and fill my fridge any time.

Great. Just what I want when I come home from vacation: LEFTOVERS. LOL!

What a nutcase! Hasn't she heard of takeout?

Missy1961,

My MIL actually does this for us. We will come home to milk, OJ, bread etc. It is very nice of her. She never travels so I am not sure what made her think to do this--thoughtfulness, I guess. :)
She often cooks us a meal too. :)

I never believed people who told me that people live out in the Hamptons think different than the rest of us, until I saw the Barefoot Contessa for the first time. :rotfl:

Just kidding.... ;)

I will take Ina, her voice, her house., recipes. all of it... before I could hang with

The Neely's
:scared1:... I am not a violent person but I think I could slap Mrs. Neely! if not more....LOL They have good food... but I turn the tv off if she wanders onto my tv screen.

I also agree with Saphire on this one. Dreaming up all these THEMES for shows must be a daunting task.

oh.. and that is really cool that Ina was a nuclear policy analyst for Jimmy Carter admin.. awesome....

:rotfl2: :lmao: When The Neely's come on I have to hit the mute button.

I'm an Ina fan. I love the way she dresses. It's nice to see a woman on there (besides Paula, yep another Southern gal who isn't a fan) who has some meat on their bones. She has some great recipes.

I wouldn't mind having something for me when I get home from vacation since we eat out the entire time we are gone. It would be nice to have something home cooked when we return. But we like to cook, so that might be the difference here.

And my friends only bought us milk & bread. :headache:
