In the Motherhood Show...Mini Rant

OT from the podcast, but did anyone watch In the Motherhood tonight????
I decided to try it because Karen from Will & Grace is in it and I think she is hilarious.

Well.........it was AWFUL!!!!!!!

Since it's on ABC, I'm mad at Bob Iger again.

This show is on at 8pm and in the first 5 minutes one of the mothers tells her young children there is no Santa Claus....Ummmmmm, hello, again, it's on at 8pm, it sort of looks like a cute show from the commercials, so didn't they think maybe some kids might watch with their moms? Then after that, all they do is talk about sex the entire show, even commenting how it isn't a good idea to buy condoms at the dollar store. And what happens to an anteater when they don't have sex for awhile (seriously) The end of the show, the mom who told her kids there is no Santa decides that wasn't a good idea, so she has a friend dress up as Santa and tells her kids she was mis-informed and there really IS a Santa. The kids are thrilled, but then they look out their patio door to see the friend dressed as Santa fall off the roof. The little boy looks outside and says "Blood...there is so much blood." Then the little girl cries and says "Mommy killed Santa Claus." ...... And again, this is on at 8pm. Unbelievable. If it was on at 10pm, it still was bad and really not funny, but I can't believe they put it on at 8pm. ABC programming is asleep at the switch.

ETA: I just emailed ABC and checked out their messages boards, I'm not the only one who is mad. Several people even commented that they never would have imagined that Disney would put a show on like this at 8pm. Not ABC, they said Disney...between D23 and this, it's been a bad few weeks for old Bob Iger. Maybe he'll try to figure out how to not be so clueless.

Glad I didn't miss much. We were having some heavy rain so of course my directtv went out. They were just darn lucky it came back on in time for Grey's Anatomy.

We watched the show and I said to John "enjoy this episode because you wont see it again."

It was awful.

I've come to the realization that Megan Mullaly was brilliant as Karen. Other than that....not so much.

I was bummed too, it was a dud I love Karen and want to see her again as the funny one!!

p.s. I almost didn't know it was her, I thought it was, but questioned it, wasn't sure until you all mentioned it here. Did she age that much?? AM I nuts? (OK, you don't have to answer that honestly!)

I started to watch it only because of Megan Mullally. I absolutely love her, but even for that- I couldn't watch more than 5 minutes of this show. I was bored to death- I had to change channels. And I also agree that this kind of show shouldn't be on at 8. Very disappointed... for the first time ever I'm glad I'm too busy to watch a show.

We watched and thought the exact same thing about the no such thing as Santa comment in the first 5 min. This show came on at 8 for us and I new it came on at 7 in Texas so kids are still up.

Holy cats Batman, I'm glad we watched Bolt last night! That would have been awful. However, there's very little on TV in the evenings that I will let my daughter watch. Monday's are particularly difficult on CBS. Big Bang Theory, funny, but not for kids! How I Met Your Mother... nope. Two & Half Men... NOT. Rules of Engagment, not even close! It's a solid two hours of completely "adult" humor. I love them all, but if I want to watch these, I need to send my DD up to her room to read and that feels like punishment to her sometimes.

Even Ugly Betty isn't for kids. Occassionally, it's not too blue, but you don't know what's going to be discussed til its on and well, it's too late then.

I didn't watch the Motherhood show but I am mad at ABC for canceling Life on Mars. I was going to start a thread about it before I read this one so I figured I would post about it here.

I don't know if anyone watches Life on Mars but in my opinion I think its a pretty decent sci-fi drama that has good actors and some interesting story lines. Not to mention some funny one-liners. Once again, ABC goes and cancels a semi-thought provoking show and keeps a show like Private Practice (which right now I watch but they are slowly loosing me due their really uninteresting story lines).

I really don't know what the t.v. execs think is good t.v. anymore but clearly they have missed the mark. The ads for this Motherhood show peeked my interest a little because Cheryl Hines (from Curb Your Enthusiasm) is in it but now I will definitely not be watching. At least I have the boards and the podcast to keep me entertained

I think anymore they don't care what time they air a show. I'm glad that they put Private Practice on at 9. That show is horrible. But 2 1/2 Men is equally horrible. My kids mainly watch Disney. ABC is owned by Disney, but they don't ever say that their shows are "Disney". I think some of the shows on ABC Family are HORRIBLE. They're great if your family consists of only teenagers.

I'm sorry to have been the bearer of bad news. ABC did not order any new episodes for this show. And yes we are supposed to find out everything although I'm not sure considering there is only ONE episode left and that's it...

I think I'm an oddball b/c I love this show. It may be b/c I followed it with the original cast last year when it was online only. You should look up how it started and watch some with the original cast- the fact that it is based on real life just makes it that much funnier to me.

No I don't think they care anymore either, but to me, the show was promoted in commercials so be a funny show about moms and you figure at 8pm how bad could it be? All the sex talk was one thing, that kind of thing kind of goes over kid's heads and you can just shut it off or send the kids out of the room, but the Santa thing right in the beginning? It was ridiculous and not at all funny.

I had the tv on and was going in and out of the room doing laundry and what not with my DS (4yo) helping me - he heard the Santa comment. I don't know if he processed it or not but it really upset me. I tried distracting him and turned the tv off but he still heard it and my have it filed away in his little brain to pull out next Christmas.

This was Disney - the people who take such pains to make Mickey and all the other characters seem real for children. I couldn't believe it. The Motherhood was definitely a giant misstep for Disney.

Life on Mars is actually a BBC show (from what I can gather we have finished Series 2 here, as I didn't watch it). However I think the storyline all figures itself out by the end of series two, and the BBC did not commission any more (so not really ABC's fault).

Sorry, just chiming in! But this programme seems awful!
