OK, I plan arriving late the night before my check in date, was just going to boondock at a wally world for the night. Get supplies in the AM and come on in. So for those of you that have been there I have a question, there are a couple of wal marts close. My plan was to stop at #3, but I just wanted to know if it was in the ghetto, was it a safe area to spend the night.

Walmart #3 is in Lake County, which I believe has an ordinance against RV's parking overnight in certain places. There are signs posted around that Walmart saying you cannot park overnight. BUT, I see people doing it all the time, so maybe it's not enforced. Hopefully someone here has more experience, but I just wanted to make you aware of the signs. It's not in the ghetto. I would feel safest in #3 or #2. #2 is in the more upscale area, but I've personally never seen RV's in that lot. Many tourists shop at that Walmart, and I've seen cases where prices are higher there, by the way.

I thought Walmart allowed over night stays, most all I have seen they do. let me check my google earth, I coulda swore when I was checking out that wally world I saw RVs in the lot

edit: Yep 2 5th wheels, 2 TT, one motorhome, and 3 semi tractor trailers all parked in the lot.

Ill give it a try, guess the worse I will have to do is move..........

thanks!!

Yes, I do see some RV's and trucks park there at night. I assume they are still there in the morning, but I've never checked. I just wanted to tell you about the signs. :confused3

Most do, but if it is against a local ordinance as the PP says it might be and it is posted than you can't. It has nothing to do with Wal-Mart, but with the local government.

Marty,

This concept of boondocking at Wal-Marts around WDW has been kicked around the DIS camping board before. As others said, it's not Wal-Mart's policy locally but the municipalities. They want your hotel tax revenue so they will knock on your door in the middle of the night and tell you to move it. Take your chances if you will. But it seems like all the towns up through the I75 border between GA/FL sound like they do the same.

Why don't you drop $25 and stay at Lake Louisa State Park just south of Clermont on Hwy 27? It will leave you close to the Walmart you wanted and it's only 30 min or so from World Drive entering WDW.

That will make you nice and legal. :cool2:

thats a good idea:thumbsup2

our first plans were to stop just south of lake city at an RV park, then do the 3 hrs on in to Disney, may still do that, just depends on how we are doing on time. didnt know about the Lake Louisa park, might have to check that out!

What aother parks are close by? Id prefer a pull through sight if possable

thanks for the heads up

For those contemplating an overnight stay in a Walmart parking lot, here is a link to a site that list all of the Walmarts where there is no overnight parking.

Thanks for the list. The Clermont WalMart is on there. So is my local WalMart in Glen Carbon, IL. It has signs up citing a local ordinance and sure enough, it's on the list.

If you do stay at lake louisa, be aware That they lock the gate at 5. If you are going to be after that, call in advance and get the gate code. It is a very nice park and a quick drive to the fort from there.

Marty,

Here is another option that I don't think many people know about, between Lake Louisa and Walmart #3 on US 27:

It's $35 per night and pretty new. They do have some pull-thru's.

Thats pretty perfect!!:thumbsup2 nice place, close to the mouse house, pull throughs.

its either going to be here or a place near lake city.............trying to decide ;) do I wanna drive 12 hrs or 15

the whole reason for the walmart boondocking was, I dont need a resi, as well if I got tired I can say screw it Im done, pull in to any wally world and crash. On a $5k trip Im not worried about 35$, more over just finding a place to stop when I decide to, that will be open.

Just lower your ride and put some really big shiny wheels on it, oh, and don't forget to drop your pants to your ankles and you should be fine...:lmao: :rotfl:

If not a wal-mart, try a Cracker Barrel ... we stay in them all the time. They open at 6AM, we go in and eat and then "hit the road".

Marty,

Let me know what you end up doing, we usually stop in Valdosta at a Walmart but I would like to get a little closer this year. I have read about people using the rest areas, I guess they have security in Florida.

We usually don't stop at a campground because we pull in late and do not want to disturb people.
