In search of my body...not the one I ate!

Sarah, I wish there were words to comfort you and your family during this difficult time. You are in my thoughts and prayers. May your father find peace and comfort from those who love and chersih him. Take care of yourself and we are here for you whenever you need us.

It's official. I have lost 50lbs.

I wanted to share that with you guys right away. Thanks for everything! :grouphug:

You ROCK!!!!:thumbsup2 :cheer2:

Hi Everyone...

Sorry for my lack of posts, but it has been crazy around here thanks to the confluence of some issues at work and the volunteer work I do. I seriously need to learn how to say no... When you think about it, not being able to say no is the heart of multiple issues for me... can't say no to eating, can't say no to taking on additional work, can't say no to being there to help a friend or familly member. The result is one stressed out, tired, cranky and overweight Goof... NOT GOOD!!!! There - I feel better just for having typed that last bit.....

Things are starting to calm down a bit - at least back to my normal state of craziness... I am restarting my weight loss journey and going back to basics. I am listening to my motivation CD's that came with the first week materials at Jenny Craig and I am determined to get back into the exercise mode I was in a month agoa. I am sick of losing and gaining the same four or five pounds and it has to stop... I am a body boarder (with giraffe print shoes that I will be wearing next week so I will take pictures) hear me roar....

Anyways - I have been following the discussions over the past few days even though I haven't been posting. I am praying for those of you who need prayers, celebrating with those of you who have acheived life's victories and empathizing with those of you who have not yet acheived your milestones yet.

In the meantime, how much longer until I am in Disneyworld??? I am beginning to feel that my vacation may never get here.... On the plus side, they did announce the dates for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party.....

Have a good day everyone,
Goof

Nice to see you around again. I am sorry things are so crazy for you though. Saying "NO" is such a hard thing to learn to do. At least you recognize the problem and now you can take the steps necessary to correct it. Once the kids came along I got lots of practice saying "No!", so it isn't a problem for me anymore...

It sounds like you are getting back on track. It is so easy to fall back into old habits. I am looking forward to the day when it is no longer a conscious decision to exercise and I will just go and do it without it feeling like it is just another chore.

Have you chosen a day for MVMCP? We decided 2 Dec. so first thing 1 May I will be on the phone. I can't wait for this trip!!

That is horrible, I don't have little kids anymore, but mine loved using there pacifiers when they were little, I never thought about that happening. Are you going to be able to give him another one? I know as a parent how sick of a feeling you must of had in your stomach. I am glad your son is alright and I will pass the information on.

I wish we could just get him off the pacifier all together but he will not fall asleep without it and crys for it all night. We found one made by Gerber that has about the same nipple shape. I looked it up and they also had recalls but they were in 1994 so I feel better about giving this one to him vs. one from a company that had more recent recalls. Is it just me or is it just plain unacceptable that something like a pacifier is not made better?!?!:confused3

Ok, I need to confess, my day went really well and I even made it until 8:30 before I needed to snack, and my snacks are not good for me. I go into an eating frezny like I have not ate for weeks. WHY does my brain do this to me. This is a real problem area for me and I am not sure how to change it. It is to early to go to bed, I don't have any excersie equipment at home, and at that point I just don't feel like going 15 miles to town for the Y. When my kids were little they kept me busy, homework, bathtime, bedtime reading, (oh I miss those days) So I am just going to have to find a hobby and eating can't be one. I have to put last night behind, I am now on today and this morning has went well.

Evenings are the hardest time for me as well. When it gets really bad I take a warm bath with a book and that seems to help distract me. I also make sure to have a big ziploc full of fresh veggies and calorie free blue cheese dressing in the fridge at all times. I can get that need for crunchy satisfied without blowing my calories out of the water. Today is a new day....

Hi everyone, I am back!!!

The reunion was a blast and I am so happy that I went. Not sure why I was in such a twist over it, but I had a great time.

I haven't weighed in over a week and have been on vacation. I hope that I maintained or even lost. I doubt that I lost though!

I am in for this months challenge.

I still need to catch up on all the posts since I was gone. I can tell you I am happy to be home and able to chat with you all.

Welcome home! I am glad you had such a good time.

Honey..I am sooo sad for you...I bet that was scary..the "What If's of my kids close calls...still hunt me.."

It could have been sooooo much worse. I truly think these boys are going to give my ulcers before either of them reach the age of 5. I don't even want to think about when they are teenagers.:scared:

Seriously...I am so amazed by all of your talents..I am baad at crafty stuff..

I am right there with you Dawn! Martha I am not! I used to draw and paint but it has been years since I have done either. I wouldn't consider that crafty though. I wish I could sew. UtahMama Wendy is the sewing Queen!!

We should get money back...just overwhelming organizing it all....good news Chad is doing the last 2 years of his biz taxes....so I am impressed with his baby steps...

A refund of any kind is always a good ting. We did pretty well in that department this year but all of it is going towards the purchse of (it pains me to admit this) a minivan...:sad2: Really, when did I get old?!?

Love to all the babes!! Have a great day ladies and Dan!

Like everyone else today, no time for a real post, but I just had to say...

Sarah--continue to be strong.

LIZ--I AM SO FREAKIN' PROUD OF YOU! OMG, seriously! When I read your post I actually shrieked! Tears in my eyes...the whole bit! You have worked so hard and you totally deserve this! Way to go!

Lots to say today...to all of you...and an update on my situation, but will have to postpone.

Love you guys---

Soo if..I stink at anything Martha Stewartish..I can at just pull my nails out with a pliars...chew tobacco and I can be golden...hmmm...:lmao:

Seriously...I am so amazed by all of your talents..I am baad at crafty stuff..

You can try, but I don't think it would be as effective.... You may not be good at crafty stuff, but based on past posts, you sure are crafty in other areas.... We all have our talents right???

That is my goal this Thirsday/Friday..not looking forward to it at all...

We should get money back...just overwhelming organizing it all....good news Chad is doing the last 2 years of his biz taxes....so I am impressed with his baby steps...

Good luck with the taxes... you are going to need this info next year when Tryenor is applying for financial aid for college....

OH and we are so getting a picture of you and I with my buddy Goofy in the snow this December.... I thought that was understood....

You ROCK!!!!:thumbsup2 :cheer2:

Thanks for the words of wisdom. I have to remind myself from time to time that this is a distance journey and not a sprint. I am getting back into the swing of things, slowly but getting there.

I haven't picked a day for the Christmas party yet, but I don't think it will be the 2nd since we fly in that day. I have to see what TGM says and factor that in as well. I'll let you know what we decide on...

YEAH FOR YOU!!!!:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

When I hit the 40lb mark, I went to the gym, and picked up a 40 lb weight. I then imagined going my whole day with that strapped to my back. I no longer wonder why I have more energy now!!

Sarah, hope your day is going better today.

Heather, I am still laughing at Kat boots. Although today, they are Kat strappy high heeled sandals!! It was 75 today, my toes are sexy, and I figured what the heck.

Oh how I wish I could wear "cute shoes" :lovestruc My physical therapist nearly had a cow when I told her that I had worn the lowest-of-low heels when we went to that black-tie ball two weekends ago... I told her, that when NIKE makes a "fancy shoe" that's good for my foot, I'll buy it  But, until then I'm pretty much stuck with sensible shoes...:sad1:

Just a quickie. I haven't read any posts, but Munkys.

Sarah - I am praying for you. Sending much love your way. Update us when you feel like it.

Snow- check out the Cole Hahn flip flops with Nike Air at Nordstrom. I really should work there. They come in Black, Red and metallicish Brown. They are pricey, but last years style was a sale item. I love loved the cushioning last years pair gave. No money here or I would tell you how this years style compares. Sofft makes some nice heels- wider toe box too. All of us need to work on our wall stretches to help our feet. We want toned calves, not tight. The muscle attatchment extends to the bottom of our heels.

Ok, babes, brace yourself for a mammoth post! I have lots of catching up to do! :rotfl2:

3Dis.....I hope you find the miracle combo that works for your body...I too have been staying away from skim milk..:)

Totally not looking for a miracle cure. I am willing to work incredibly hard (already have been), it is just ultra frustrating when you feel like you are doing everything possible and still not seeing results. But I will talk more about that in a bit.

Erika, What a bummer about the meal plan. Did you talk to him about doing it over again? I am curious to see what you find out about the milk. I hate milk and can only stomach a small amount of it on cereal but I use skim when I do.

I just sent an e-mail, so I am hoping that he will do it over again. He really should. I wouldn't sweat the skim milk...as Nancy said (and I totally agree), I have never heard or read this anywhere else, and I have been around fitness/nutrition for many, many years.

Warning to all of you parents of small children!!: Do not use the playtex orthodontic pacifiers! The entire nipple pulled off of the button last night while my son had it in his mouth. If I had not seen it happen or if he had been in bed for the night he would have choked to death. I called playtex and they are sending me a bag to put the pacifier in and send it back to them. I did some research and they have had 3 different orthodontic pacifiers recalled due to the same problem in 2000/2001. They had 21 reports of this same thing happening. Obviously, they still have not gotten it right. I shudder to think what could have happened. I was shaking so hard when I called that I could barely speak to customer service rep.

I am SO glad that he is ok and that you were right there when it happened! Having almost lost a kiddo at that age, I know only too well how terrifying that type of experience can be.

Hi Everyone...

Things are starting to calm down a bit - at least back to my normal state of craziness... I am restarting my weight loss journey and going back to basics. Goof

Glad to hear that things are getting back to normal. I miss you when you are not posting regularly! Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you get motivated back to your exercise program. I'll still match you minute for minute if you want...to help hold you accountable.

Hi everyone, I am back!!!

The reunion was a blast and I am so happy that I went. Not sure why I was in such a twist over it, but I had a great time.

Glad that it went so well! Those types of events make me nutty as well, and like you, I end up having a good time. Go figure!

Okay, I have a positive for tonight... I just finished doing my taxes, which I was totally dreading. We both went up in salary last year, and an online calculator estimated as owing $1400+ a few months back so I have been procrastinating. SO, fast forward to a nice evening spent with turbotaxonline and taxactonline.com, and... $1825 combined refund!!

Woo-Hoo for a refund! As I already reported, we had good tax news this year as well!

Yeah, well, this trip is SO not like an other that we've planned! As in - there hasn't been much in the way of planning! :scared1: We are Sheraton Resort/timeshare owners, so we are staying off-site at the Vistiana Resort. Our DS15 is in the High School band - and they are performing in the Galaxy Theatre (Tomorrowland, as if you didn't already know that! )...so much of our trip was "unscheduled" until we got final travel details from the band director. A man. Not so hot at communicating...:rolleyes1 We've had our plane tix and hotel since September but just found out the other day when and where the kids will be working with Disney musicians and performing! :headache:

Fair enough, but we still want details as they are available! :rotfl2: I know that my kids will end up doing the WDW band trips as well and I will be first in line to be there! Of course, I will have to stay at DVC...not staying at values with hundreds of teens! :scared1:

That is disappointing...and odd....now, I'm no *expert*, but I've met with nutritionists before, and never, ever have I heard anything about diminished protein value. :confused3 I'm not saying that he's WRONG, but I'd need more info and a clearer explanation before I'd be willing to believe that one...:sad2: As for the not eating enough fat...well...been there, done that and it's true. You MUST eat a certain amount of fat for your body to function properly, and for your "way-smarter-than-you" natural instincts to recognize the fact that it's getting what it needs. Your body will protect itself and go into "starvation mode" - slowing down your metabolism so that it can survive on the meager amount of nutrition it's being given  ...it's so counter productive! But once you find your proper balance (which is SO darned tricky! :scared: ) you'll find that your body is willing to let go of that "protective layer"

This is exactly my thinking. Again, he has all sorts of education in this and I don't, but still...I have been around fitness and nutrition for ages and have never heard or read this anywhere else. I have also googled it in the last few days and nothing at all so far. I am going to continue researching a bit, but so far, I still only have skim milk in my fridge.

Said it before and I'll say it again--I am SO PROUD of you! You are a total inspiration to everyone on this thread! 50 pounds lost is a MAJOR milestone!

It sounds like you are getting back on track. It is so easy to fall back into old habits. I am looking forward to the day when it is no longer a conscious decision to exercise and I will just go and do it without it feeling like it is just another chore.

I am definitely at this point now. I really look forward to and NEED my work-out in order for my day to feel complete. Remember that it only takes 21 days to form a habit...so try to get in a strict routine for a few weeks and pretty soon it will feel weird when you DON'T work out!

Just a quickie. I haven't read any posts, but Munkys.

Sarah - I am praying for you. Sending much love your way. Update us when you feel like it.

Missing you! Get your butt back here and check in! (Yeah, yeah, I know...I'm a bossy thing...blah blah...:lmao: )

Big post - sorry if I missed anyone in this!!!

Liz, get rid of those clothes!! Just think of the closet space you will have to fill when they are gone.

Warning to all of you parents of small children!! Do not use the playtex orthodontic pacifiers! The entire nipple pulled off of the button last night while my son had it in his mouth. I am totally getting rid of the clothes this week. I am NOT going back!

That pacifier thing is terrifying! Why can't they make a SAFE one???

Paula, I read somewhere that saying no to others is saying yes to yourself...we are all caretakers on this thread. I sure understand where you are coming from. You have done really well - you can get back on program!

Ok, I need to confess, my day went really well and I even made it until 8:30 before I needed to snack, and my snacks are not good for me. I go into an eating frezny like I have not ate for weeks. WHY does my brain do this to me. This is a real problem area for me and I am not sure how to change it. I have to put last night behind, I am now on today and this morning has went well.

Jodi, I just load up on good snacks, made really easy to grab. Like, cut up carrots and celery and put hummus into little Tupperware containers (like my plug, Dawn???) and grab that. The 100 calorie packs work on the road, and I also make serving size bags of wheat crackers or pretzels. Then you can snack happy!

Hi everyone, I am back!!!

went to the hospital with my mom today. The doctors say its highly unlikely my dad will be coming home. He is really not good and my mom is going to sign a do not resuscitate order. He has a non specific infection and is not eating or drinking and its taking all his body's energy to fight the infection. He doesn't even stay awake for long periods of time. When he does he doesn't really know whats going on. I am so down I don't know when I will pick myself up... I hope everyone is doing much better than me.

Sarah

Sarah, again, if you need anything don't hesitate. My prayers and heart are with you.

SO, fast forward to a nice evening spent with turbotaxonline and taxactonline.com, and... $1825 combined refund!!

My accountant friend bailed on me this year, so I tried out both products. They had the exact same refund, but taxactonline was $14 and Turbo Tax was $85, so it was a no-brainer.

Whoo-hoo to refunds! I hope you can do something fun with it!

So. Today on my way home from work, I stopped by a gym. Then another one. Then another and another. I toured them and then came home and made an Excel file - prices, impressions, pros and cons. Because what is the life of a Virgo without an Excel spreadsheet? ;) Then I spoke to my husband about it. Then, my friends, I joined a gym. No sh$t. Me, who lost 50lbs by exercising as little as possible.

It was time. I'm going to knock this last 40lbs out of the water, out of my life. I'm going to get healthy and strong. Tomorrow I sign the papers and make the appt for my first training session. Wow. I still can't believe it!

On that note, today was my 5th straight gym day. I may take tomorrow off.

Look at you go! Come on over to the dark side, baby! :rotfl2: Join us freaky exercise folks! :cheer2:

First, I think it is hysterical that you made a spread sheet for this! OMG! How OCD can you get!?!?!

Expect to be overwhelmed at first...there is a lot to take in if you are new to the gym scene. And don't be intimidated for even one second by the spandex-clad gym-bunnies. You will be amazed at how quickly you can get into the swing of a gym routine.

Really think about what type of exercise you might enjoy...lifting weights/strength training? Cardio type work on the treadmills and ellipticals? Or classes? Nancy just did a Zumba class and I am doing my first Zumba next week. I don't think it will be the way to go for me, but I'll try anything once! I was all set to do a kickboxing class, but they canceled it in favor of Zumba. Go figure. :confused3 I used to LOVE classes because (1) they were social, and you know, I love to gab... and (2) they are a full body work-out. Nancy likes spinning, which I hate and detest and despise. I like bosu-flex classes as well. Pilates doesn't do anything for me. Now with all of my running, though, I don't have time for classes.

You will likely have a ton of questions after that first training session, so please feel free to ask! Do they have childcare for Em? And just think....this will give you activity points!

If possible, try to workout earlier in the day. I find that it sets me up for success the whole rest of the day.

As for me...things here are hectic, but good for the most part. It is just the end of the semester (2.5 more weeks), so I am just busy with work. Plus, it is finally spring here, so I am itching to take care of things around the house.

Met with my running coach this morning and got an awesome lower-body massage. He totally released all of the tension in my legs. Hoping for a great run tomorrow!

The calorie-counting thing seems to be going well. 2 full days of it now and I am getting into the rhythm of it. And it is really good to know the value of everything you put in your mouth...makes you really evaluate whether or not it is worth it.

I have always known that counting is likely the best way to lose weight. After all, losing weight should not be rocket science...is should be an issue of calories in vs. calories out. But I have resisted it because, basically, I hate it. I hate counting and weighing and measuring...keeping track of protein vs. fat and so on. But at this point...whatever works! Now that there are sites like SparkPeople, it makes all of the tallying a bit easier.

TOM is in town...ugh. I really have a bad time with it. I should have a hysterectomy (I get ovarian cysts) and actually, I would love to have it done. Be done with TOM forever? SIGN ME UP! :rotfl2: I just haven't dealt with it. It is a loooong recovery and it just isn't a good time. I want to get the weight off and be super healthy before going into an ordeal like that. And I can deal with all of the issues that come with TOM for now. My OB says any time within the next 2 years.

But once I am ready...oh yeah, it is coming out. Heck, it is already closed for business anyway! :rotfl2:

Ok, back to work for now...but I will be up for hours and will keep popping back in! :goodvibes

What is Zumba? I hate the exercise bike, so spinning sounds like torture to me.

I agree on earlier workouts. I get lazier as the day goes on.

Lower-body massage sounds kinda kinky.

I agree competely on the calorie counting, but hey, you knew I would!

:lmao: We totally wrote that at the same time! You posted while I was writing my novel of a post above! :rotfl2:

:rotfl:

And SeptGirl, I agree. This board is a lifesaver.
