We are:
Me, aged 36, never been to a Disney park of any description. Rather bloody-minded when it comes to theme park rides, cannot turn down a challenge but given to yelling ‘argh, don’t like it!’ and closing my eyes.
DH, aged 36, also not been to a Disney park before. Likes rollercoasters but suffers from fairly severe motion sickness and refuses to go on anything teacup-like!
DD, aged 4, obviously not been to a Disney park either. Loved the one rollercoaster she’s been on; hates the dark.

Sun 8th June
Getting there – not much to report, in short it took about eight hours door-to-door. Our only breaks were a leg stretch and look break on this side of the channel, the crossing, and another leg stretch/loo break (plus change of driver) on the other side.

Checked into Sequoia Lodge, having already decided we wouldn’t attempt to leg it across the resort, village and park to try to make our 6.30 appointment with the princesses – fortunately we hadn’t mentioned it to DD. Instead we ate at Café Mickey, which had a great atmosphere and reasonable food, and was as alarmingly expensive as I had expected it to be (but had omitted to mention to the man with the credit card).

Monday 9th June
Had a shocking night’s sleep for no apparent reason, so was awake when the alarm went off in time for us to make our 7.30 breakfast slot.

Packed our essentials (sunscreen and hats, much needed; a few small snacks; water; waterproofs, not needed until the Wednesday; tickets; camera) and headed for the parks. First thing we had to do was hire a stroller (DD is a bundle of energy, but really not keen on A to B walking, and SOMEONE forgot to put our stroller in the car).

First we had to go and visit the dragon under the castle, as I’d mentioned it to DD and she was quite fixated. He’s quite scary! She liked him though, once she got used to him. Next in Fantasyland we made our first tactical error (I should have known better) and queued for Dumbo. It took ages! DD enjoyed the ride though.

By the time we’re off we’re past 1000 so Peter Pan is open with a 15 minute queue, so we go on that. Knowing DD’s fear of the dark we put her between us, but a lot of the scenery is below the car so she misses a certain amount. And the dark is apparently no longer a problem!

Then we head for Buzz Lightyear FastPasses. Once we’ve got them I notice the queue for Space Mountain is only 15 minutes, and having been told by my boss I MUST go on it, I do. It’s great – I think I like dark coasters better than ones out in the open. DH and DD kill the wait looking round Nautilus, which doesn’t impress them.

Then we’re into our FastPass slot – this doesn’t work brilliant with Buzz, there’s still nearly 20 minutes queuing even with a FastPass. DH and I shoot (his gun is broken, he only gets 2,000 points and I get 19,000) and DD spins.

A bit of aimless wandering and loo/ice cream seeking later we accidentally wander into Adventureland and find a short queue for Pirates of the Caribbean. Erm, would I get expelled from the board for saying it’s not very good?! Not bad or anything, just hardly the legend I’d come to expect. The most exciting bit was losing my hat (one bit was faster than I’d expected) – fortunately we weren’t in the back seats, or my poor hat would have been consigned to a watery grave). This is my rather mad pic on PotC; it’s a skeleton guarding a treasure chest:

Really, it is!

Wandered around Adventure Island for a while, where DD loved the Pont Suspendu and Pont Flotant, both were les Ponts Bounce-ants with her on them. She was tired after that, so had a snooze in the stroller while DH and I ate croques monsieurs from Victoria’s. DD had cookies later.
Post-cookies, we went back into Fantasyland and went on Le Pays des Contes de Fées, which was quite sweet. The queue for Casey Junior was 45 minutes, so we skipped that one! Then – already! – it was almost time for the parade to start, so we picked a spot to watch the parade. The tip I’d got from here (and which was backed up by the parade route on dlrpmagic) didn’t work, I think there was only one stop so no dancing princesses for us (we were right at the parade start, near Bella Notte). The parade was brilliant anyway, I’ve been reading up about the themes of the floats since I got back!

We were all tired by then, so we went back to the hotel for a rest before dinner, which we knew we had booked in one of the restaurants (turned out to be Beaver Creek). DH and skipped starters, but a buffet starter was included in the kids’ menu so DD had a starter of bread, cheese, cucumber and lettuce! Started to realise the issue with lack of vegetables isn’t overstated – DD could have chips OR green beans and of course wanted chips, my ‘vegetables’ were kidney beans, which aren’t really a vegetable. Oh, and I’m allergic to them, but that’s not the hotel’s fault. Dessert buffet was good though – when the buffet gives you cold crème anglais (custard!) and poached meringues, make floating islands, I always say. Well, I do now.

:rotfl2: I don't think you'll be expelled although someone might throw you overboard! :lmao:

I enjoy Pirates (have only been on the one at WDW) but wouldn't rate it on my top 10 rides at WDW.

I must admit, Pirates is my favourite ... I find it very atmospheric

First time my DD went on IASW, she said she could "live there" , that's how I feel about Pirates

Nice trip report ... *goes to read the rest*

Hiya - love the trip report, I'm not too impressed with pirates either to be honest, but the family love it so we always have to go on it.... and - if you've been to Drayton Manor park and seen their shabby version, the DLRP one looks positively majestic in comparison:rotfl::rotfl:!!

I do like POTC but can understand why some don't see the appeal if it's been over-hyped.

We even liked singing along as we walked down the queue!

I think it would be nice to see it updated with a Jack Sparrow, Elizabeth Swan etc characters. Nothing obvious, just nestled in somewhere throughout the ride. Unless they were and I missed it!

What are the Ponts? Think we missed that.

Great report!!...As for POTC...does anyone else think it really smells in there? Somedays it was awful!!

Erm, would I get expelled from the board for saying it’s not very good?!
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

The first time I rode POTC at WDW I came off it thinking "Is that all?? There's a ride like that at Weymouth harbour!!" :rotfl:

Well, it sort of grew on me ;) now it's one of my favourite rides. pirate:
