In Room Safes and Laptops

I will be staying at the Poly in May and would like to bring my laptop so we can download our digital pictures. Problem is that I am worried about leaving it in the room while we are out for the day. Does anyone know if the in-room safes are large enough to store a laptop?

Hi Msjpatt,

Unfortunately, they are barely big enough to fit your wallet!!

That is not what I wanted to hear. I am disappointed. Guess we will just ahve to wait until we get home. I am not risking my laptop walking out of the room. Thanks for the reply.

We have taken our laptop on both trips and will again this time. We put the laptop case in the bottom of our suitcase, lay a clean towel over that and pile the dirty clothes on top of it. Some days I don't want to touch our laundry, let alone someone else's dirty clothes! :rotfl: If it makes you feel better, you could lock it up in your suitcase too. HTH!

Bring a combination lock for your suitcase or duffel and place your laptop in there while you are out of the room.

We take our laptop with us on every trip..we have never had a problem.

We have left it set up on the desk/table, and we have tucked it away in the drawer.

DH needs to bring his laptop for work (unfortunately) and this is disappointing, esp. after reading some of the theft threads :( I think the combo lock for the luggage may work though. Thanks.

I've taken my laptop twice while staying at OKW. I lock it in my suitcase and place my suitcase in the closet. It has been fine.

I recommend you obtain a notebook cable lock, and use it to secure the laptop to the bedframe or a large piece of furniture.

Most corporations issue these with notebook computers, and require that you use them to keep notebooks from "walking away". Check online by doing a search on "notebook cable lock", or check at any electronics store for them.

I have taken my laptop to WDW just about every trip. I usually just leave it in it's case inside a drawer. Never had any problems.

I agree with the lock for your laptop. Most insurance companies when dealing with laptop thefts want to know what you did to prevent it from being stolen.

I think the wall safe in POP was large and thin but enough to hold a laptop. I remember putting mine in a safe this last trip and I stayed at POP and ASSports.

Always leave my laptop out in the open every hotel I'm in and have never had a problem.

We always take ours to down load pics too and we lock it in our suitcase and have never had a problem. We have done this at WDW and other vacation spots too for the last 5 years.

We put our laptop in the safe at the Poly. Our laptop measures 12.5x10x1.25 inches, and it was a squeeze. It had to sit at an angle. I don't think you could get a much larger laptop in there.

vacationwoman, just because you and others never had a laptop taken when it is in plain view doesn't mean that it doesn't happen. Lots of laptops are stolen every year from hotel rooms.

I've taken my laptop before and take it on all our vacations - not just WDW and have never had any problems. I usually don't leave it out but put it either back in it's case or in a suitcase.

Just pickup a security cable from your local computer store and secure your laptop to a fixed item in the room. Thats what I have done in the past and plan to do again this trip. The cable was about $34.00
