Hi anyone have any info on the safes in the rooms at the Beach Club Resort? How big? Do they charge? How safe are they?

Thanks!

Nope, no charge to use them. :goodvibes They use a key you can take with you (unless they've changed within the past year). Well, they're safe... as a safe. (We've had no issues, although I assume someone on property holds a master key to the room safes :confused3 ).

If you head over to the BC/YC FAQ thread, I'm sure they've got a picture of it on the first page. :thumbsup2

My only issue with the safes at the BC/YC are -- since they are on the smaller side -- the bit where the key is inserted, where the bolt resides, sticks into the safe itself so you have to be careful where you place electronics. With an expert-level Tetris degree, I've managed to fit in the following with no room to spare: 2 smartphones (Galaxy S3's to give you an idea of size), an old Kindle in a leather case, 2 wallets, a Nintendo DS and a Nikon DSLR with lens attached. :faint:

We stayed there in 2010 and their safes were in desperate need of an upgrade. Hopefully they have since then, but from what we had it was in the wall with an obtrusive orange key lol. You just take it with you. I think it's pretty secure, but I guess one never knows. Not sure about Disney, but in most hotels you can keep valuables in a safe deposit box at the front desk. The in room safes are tiny though. You definitely can't fit a laptop of anything in it. MAYBE an iPad? I don't remember. Like pp said, be careful when you open it - everything usually falls out on us lol.

THAT is impressive! :thumbsup2

I was at the BC a couple of weeks ago and measured the dimensions of the safe in our room- it was 13"x9"x4"

As you mentioned, it is key-operated rather than keypad. I hope they will change that with next year's refurbs. Do some of the other Disney resorts use keypad safes? I think the safe in the last All Star Room was also keyed.

Wow!!! I'm tempted to add your impressive safe-packing experience to the others, with your permission...

You are right- here is the info from "The Other Useful Info" section in the BC/YC FAQ:

Will it fit???

Does an ipad fit in the room safe?

MsCoz2000 provided the photo of the safe.

We have had conflicting reports of the sizes of the safe in the resort rooms (and throughout the different resorts at Disney, for that matter). It seems like rooms can have safes of different sizes.

Safe dimensions: 14"x9"x4" in the safe in Room 5709 in July 2013
(this info may not be helpful if the safes have a variety of sizes)

If you have valuables that won't fit in the safe in your room, there are a couple of things you can do:

The front desk has a safe deposit box you can use.

You can check your items at Bell Services and they will lock it in the cage.

Here are a few experiences from guests:

I was able to fit two iPad's, a Kindle, a wallet, and a wallet size zippered pouch in our BC safe. Nothing got smooshed or broken. I wish it were a tad larger so I could have put the kid's iPod's into it, but oh well. I was impressed with all I DID fit in there. :)

from a recent guest in a Deluxe Room said:
I just returned from the Beach Club today, so this is very fresh to me. Mind you, we stayed in a Deluxe Room, Club level, so I can't speak for the typical BC room, but the in-room safe is exactly as you described. The size made it useless to us as we were hoping to store our iPads and they were too large for the safe. Additionally, the safe does have a key closure, rather than a combination which wasn't ideal to us either. I'm hoping that the safes will eventually be switched out because they are just archaic and inconvenient.

Going back to the safe question I do think there are different sizes, last year my macbook pro wouldn't fit in the safe in BWI CL but it has fit in the safe in OKW.

THAT is impressive!

Haha, thanks. The DSLR has to sit perched upright on its lens. With stuff crammed in behind (Kindle), on top (wallets) and underneath at the sides (DS and phones). I still don't know how all that junk fits in there. :crowded: It's the same at AKL... dinky little safes.

As you mentioned, it is key-operated rather than keypad. I hope they will change that with next year's refurbs. Do some of the other Disney resorts use keypad safes? I think the safe in the last All Star Room was also keyed.

I hope they make the change-over, too. I seem to recall the Poly having different, bigger safes. (Or at least I didn't have such a time cramming all my junk in that one for some reason.)

:rotfl: My pleasure, copy-and-paste away; BC is my true love after all. :thumbsup2 I only wish I'd had the ability to take a picture of it -- except all the picture-taking devices were already stuffed inside.
