In room child care?

My partner and I have hopes of one night out at Pleasure Island without the kids during our June visit. We PLAN on sending the 14 and 16 year old to Disney Quest and, since we are at the Saratoga Springs, having them find their way back when DQ closes. Does this sound sane? :earboy2: We are PLANNING on leaving the 9 year old with in-room child care at the resort. I know SSR does not have a childcare club. We are planning on using one of the babysitting services that are available for in-room child care. We are hoping the babysitter will take him to the resort pool and put him to bed at a decent time. Has anyone done this? What was your experience like?

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

I do'nt think it's SANE for your older kids to WALK back to SSR from DQ in the dark. That walk is a lot longer than it looks. I do think it would be fine for them to take the BUS back to SSR after DQ closes as long as they stay together.

The in room childcare won't take you child swimming. To my knowledge none of them will do to liability issues. The arcade is an option. Can he stay with the two older ones? Are they "flighty" or will they keep a watch on him?

the older two kids are my partner's, the younger one mine. I don't want the older kids to think they're along as babysitter. They're great kids and would keep an eye on him but I don't think it's really fair to ask them to do so. I'm happy to hear what others think. :earboy2:

i too would suggest the two teenagers not walking to ssr from dtd. they can take the boat back to ssr which is more convinient, relaxing & safe

as for the younger child with in room childcare, my family has have used kids nite out several times, we plan on using them again for our wdw wedding. they are great, normally bring games or toys and will put the kids to bed. the sitter has brought the kids to dinner & the arcade at the resort but not the pool, not sure if they'd do this or not.

hope you all have a great trip at wdw!

That's a tough one. I haven't used in room care, but it's all with what you are comfortable with. Me personally, would maybe use it once. But I am real funny about who watches my kids (2 girls: 9 & 2)..it takes the 2 yo at least 1 hr to warm up to someone she doesn't know. If it were just the 9 yr old, I'd probably do it (still only once). I just don't feel comfortable with people I don't know AND it being in-room. There IS a kid's club at BC that looks really cool. Now, I'd let them watch my 9 yr old (the minimum age is 4) there. As far as the older kids..it depends on their maturity. Do they listen and obey your rules at home? It IS a long walk and if it were real late I'd say no, but even still..maybe a bus ride would be better. If it were my 2 girls (at that age) I'd either meet them or make sure they ride the bus and at a time that there were plenty of people around. My parents gave me a lot of freedom, but I was always aware of my surroundings and what to do and what not to do. (Umm, and those were the days BEFORE cell phones!) Believe me, I'm pretty protective (3 girls were adbucted from their front porches w/i 10 miles of here around 5 yrs ago..The Lisk sisters and Sofia Silva) so I am not THAT liberal, but DTD is pretty well lit and there's a lot of people. If you're sure they will listen to what you tell them and you know you can trust them (an they won't get in a fight or anything) then OK. BUt I would make sure it's at a decent hour so they don't encounter any drunks and so that the stores are still open so that there will still be people around when they are walking home. I just read the other post and I didn't know there's a boat to SSR..that's even better! It's of course up to you.

I dunno, I am so paranoid & my kiddos are still so small (1 & 3), I would not use the sitter service. I just do not trust strangers alone with my kids. I would never judge anyone who did it though. I wish I were more comfy about stuff, but I am a nervous nelly.

See now, the older kids walking back doesn't bother me-they are together not alone. I had a job & was driving a car at 16. I was certainly repsonsible enough to get myself back from somewhere. I would say that is fine.

I'm cutting and pasting this from someone else's earlier post:

Kid's Nite Out, 407-827-5444, kidsniteout.com, male or female sitters, min. 4 hours, 1 child $14, 2 children $16, 3 children, $19, 4 children $21, transportation fee $8 starting after 9 pm +$2, payment by cc, gratuity in cash, must cancel prior to 24 hours

All about kids, 407-812-9300, all-about-kids.com, male and female sitters, 4 hour min, 1 child $11, 2 children $12, 3 children $13, 4 children $14, transportation fee $8 starting after 9 pm +$2, credit card needed for reservation, must cancel prior to 3 hours

Fairy Godmothers, (407) 969-9847 and toll free 877-611-4314, mothers & grandmothers, 4 hour min, 1 child $12, 2 children $12, 3 children $12, 4 children $14, transportation fee $12 staring after 10 pm +$2, cash or travelers check for payment, gratuity in cash, must cancel prior to 3 hours

None of them will take your child swimming or give them a bath. All are 18+, security checked, cpr trained, bonded, etc.

Nine could be a little old for a in-room sitter. Have you thought about a kids club at a different resort, then have the older two pick him up (if that is allowed) and all three make their way back to ssr via bus? I don't remember reading anything about walking in the OP and just assumed you meant bus, but maybe you could leave them money for a taxi to cut down on time with this method? Just a thought

Is there a way that you could ask the older two to "do you a favor" and take the 9 year old along for the night and you do something special for them another night? Will their tickets cover DQ for multiple nights? If not it might be worth it to tell them that you will pay for them to go one night just the two of them without the younger one. It would cost just as much to do that then to hire the in room sitter and you would definitely get on their good side-
Just and idea

DH & I are going to a Cirque 6 pm show (we are staying at Pop Century). I asked the reservation clerk about the in-room sitting for our kids, who are 4 and 5, and she suggested the Children's Activity Center, called The Neverland Club, at the Polynesian. The fee is $10/hr per child, with a 2 hour minimum. Dinner is served from 6:30 to 8 - hot dogs, mac n cheese, pizza, chicken nuggets, etc., and dessert is 8 to 8:30. She said they have games, movies, activities, etc. They are open from 4 pm to midnight, we will drop them off at 5 and probably pick them up around 9 or 10. It's not cheap, but it's one of those things we will splurge on. Our kids have only been with a sitter once or twice, but I think they will do fine.
