Hi guys! Im not sure if this is the appropriate spot for this, but here it is. :)

We went from wanting to do the dlx dp to no dp at all. I am actually good with this. However my question is this...

WE will need a small breakfast before leaving our room. WE have thought of instant oatmeal, sandwiches, cereal bars/granola bars, or cereal.

Now, this is our 'problem'. WE are driving 7 hours from Canada, to Maine to fly out. We would need to put whatever we needed in a suitcase. which we should have the room, but a kettle for oatmeal... no fridge even though we will have milk on ice.
Im sure I will buy some fruit while we are there for the room (or snatch some from one of the 2 character meals we are doing ;) lol

Just wondering if anyone has any other suggestions that I just don't know about??

Thanks!!! (6 weeks YAY!)

The resorts have milk, boxes of donuts, fresh bagels, individual donuts, pop tarts, juice boxes, etc in the gift shop and the food courts. We sometimes buy something for breakfast the night before so we don't have to waste the time buying it in the AM. It doesn't take long to buy the donut or muffin in the morning if you want to do that. Now that our kids are a little older, we sometimes wait until we get in the park to eat something (not a sit down breakfast, just a milk and maybe a donut or something-we are on vacation I don't worry too much about healthy).

You can have groceries delivered right to your room. I think they even have styrofoam coolers to order too. It is VERY reasonably priced and so easy. We have used garden grocer a few times in the past and have always been very happy. We mainly order cereal, snack bars, chips, milk, soda, bananas and a case of water. Saves us SO MUCH MONEY from buying that stuff at the resort or in the parks.

I was planning on doing the quick breakfasts in the room as well and asked on another thread if toasters were allowed in the rooms. I've been told that toasters and microwaves are available in the lobby for guest use and that broadens the types of meals we can plan on and may also eliminate the need for the kettle if you were willing to use the microwave to heat water for the instant oatmeal. I'm bringing pop tarts, cereal, bagels, raisin bread, and fruit, but we're driving and don't have to worry as much about how much room everything takes up.

We always eat breakfast in our room. I packed a box of cereal, plastic bowls and spoons, cereal bars, protein bars and pop tarts (they're only eaten on vacation in our family so they go quickly). I bought milk at the gift shop at CSR - $3.99 for a half gallon.

We are RD people so I don't want to have to wake up any earlier to go to a restaurant/food court for breakfast. It's easier to eat in the room while everyone is getting showered and dressed.

We had the ddp, but had a bagel in the room every morning - I don't find the need to have a hot breakfast, since my kids seem to eat poptarts every morning at home.

The coffee pot in your room is a great place to get boiling water for making the oatmeal.

thanks guys!! We are staying at AS movies, I don't believe there is a coffee maker there. I didn't realise you could buy those items in the food courts. I love a hot breakfast, but it's not needed if it saves us time! I don't wnat to be down int he food court waiting for a breakfast with 2 toddlers. ;)

I will definitely check out the delivered groceries though. :)

Thanks guys! Just getting ready for Halloween. :) We are headed out to the grandparents for the afternoon (we are an hour ahead of EST...so it's noon here :) ) Happy Halloween everyone!!

just had a thought, my kids actually love bagels. Mind you, toasted, and with herb and garlic cream cheese. Was wondering...can this be bought in the food court? If not, do you think that is something I can pack in my suitcase to fly with?? I havne't flewn in a very long time, and I was moving..so i wasn't worries about my breakfasts at a resort. :)

If you use the coffee pot for hot water, don't let it run through the filter holder - it will come out tasting like bitter coffee.

All the food courts have a hot water dispenser, for people who like tea, etc. A travel mug filled with hot water could be used to make oatmeal, and you could get a first round of hot coffee at the same time!

Yes there are bagels to buy, I'm sure there is plain cream cheese, not sure about any fancy kinds. I think there is a toaster to use also.

If you are on the Deluxe DP, use your snack credits to get pastries to use as breakfast. That is what we are planning to do in January. You get so many snacks on the Deluxe DP, that it makes sense - and think of the great variety!!!!

Don't always use the credits on water or drinks(unless you just can't stand the taste of the Orlando H2O). Bringing along any of those small packs of powders to flavor water will help that anyway - like Crystal Light, Lipton Tea powder, etc. You can just reuse the same bottle or carry your refillable mug that comes with the Deluxe DP.

We were going to use the dlx dp, but we changed our minds all together and aren't going with any dp. Mainly because of the Canadian dollar being so low. The exchange kills us and just isn't worth getting the ddp, plus tips, and then exchange on the ddp AND tips.

We are still undecided. So hard since we have never been and aren't sure what to expect. Being at ASmovies and in a preferred room, we aren't sure if going to the lobby or cafeteria will be 'too far' to bother with. but getting something the evening or afternoon before would be fine. It's such a small thing, but Im so confused over it.

If it helps, the "Lobby and Food court" are in the same building. One person could run to the Food court and grab some hot water and coffee, while the other is in the room getting ready. Or getting the kids ready. A preferred room should not be far. Some of the preferred rooms are mere minutes away from the food court. The Food court is also the building most people walk through to get to the buses.

You could still bring pastries or a whole host of other items back to the resort with you in the evening. Keep in mind that any of the bigger hotels that have a DVC component maintain a grocery case in their gift shops. If you are planning on visiting any of them for dinner or the like, you can run in and pick up a few items for your room. The best ones for this would be Boardwalk or Beach Club (BW has a bit bigger selection) or Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Hang in there. It's not as bad as all this planning seems!:grouphug:
