Realized about a month ago that we will be in Orlando for the entire duration of the Winter Games...WITHOUT CBC-TV! Now, I know NBC will be covering some, but they don't even come close to CBC's schedule. I can live without seeing the luge, skeleton, and even - gasp - the curling ...but the hockey??? Maybe if it is a Canada-USA final the ESPN Club @ Boardwalk will carry the game (Dare I wear a Maple Leaf?)

The worst part is that nobody - not one single solitary person - here at home feels any sympathy for me at all! Comments like "Oh, too bad you're in FLORIDA FOR 3 WEEKS!" and "Poor baby" pretty much sum up the sentiments that have been coming my way.

I will have to do a Google search for sports bars in Orlando that cater to Snowbirds. Oh well, it is still a darn good trade-off! :)

Lucky you! Three weeks in Disney in February--I'd suffer through the lack of hockey! However, I'm sure there will be lots of coverage, especially at the ESPN club. Have a great time! :wave2:

The networks of NBC/Universal will be providing 416 hours of coverage.

CBC will be broadcasting "more than 245 hours of coverage".

As I will be working on the Olympics (I'm an editor at CBC), were did you get the quote of more than 245 hours of coverage?

You do realize that 416 hours from NBC includes the re-running of events overnight?

Apothecary - Wear that Maple Leaf!

Um, the games run for 17 days...17 days X 24 hrs/day = 408 hrs. How can NBC be broadcasting 416 hours.

And, I guess my main concern is the coverage of Canadian atheletes. NBC is unlikely to put any focus on them.

Oh, and tone.def- yeah I'm gonna wear the Maple Leaf big time!!

I can sympathize !
We were in Orlando in January and the day we arrived was the final game in the Junior tournament.
The game not on TV at the hotel, and we were too exhausted to venture out to find somewhere to watch it.
We read the score the next day in USA today.
We couldn't even find updates on ESPN or CNN.
My DH was so disappointed especially when we got home and his friends starting mentioning what a great game it was to watch.

My sisters realized the same thing. They leave on a cruise the day before the gold medal hockey game! They are hoping that someone will pick up the feed!

"NBC stations to have 416 hours of televised events."

http://www.cbc.ca/programguide/prog...levision&startDate=2006/02/10&startTime=13:00

"CBC, Canada's Olympic Network, travels to Turin, Italy providing more than 245 hours of coverage of 2,500 athletes from 85 nations competing for 84 medals in 15 disciplines."

Of course CBC is going to have more coverage of Canadian teams, they're a Canadian network.
And yes, CBC's Olympic coverage is going to be much better than NBC's.

I was merely pointing out the discrepancy in Apocecary's OP. And by the way, I don't have any sympathy either. I'd much rather be in Florida in February. :sunny:

Okay, I couldn't figure out how NBC could have more than 24 hours a day coverage, but NOW I understand.
There will be about 200 hours of live television coverage during the Feb. 10-27 games on the NBC Universal networks — NBC, USA, MSNBC, CNBC, NBC HD and Universal HD. There were about 140 hours of live coverage from Salt Lake City.

The coverage, details of which were announced Tuesday, will average about 24½ hours a day over all the networks. There will be regular updates and a late-night Olympic highlight show on Telemundo, NBC’s Spanish-language network.

And, for proud Canadians:
01/27/06- It's a Canadian sports fan's dream! CBC, in its 50th year of Olympic broadcasting excellence, will provide more than 1,000 hours of coverage of TORINO 2006 - THE OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES - more than any other network in North America. CBC's wall-to-wall coverage of TORINO 2006 - THE OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES, kicking off on Friday, Feb. 10 at 1 p.m. ET with live coverage of the Opening Ceremony, also marks the first time Canadians can experience the Games in High Definition (HD).

CBC Television will maintain the network's golden tradition of airing most events LIVE, and, together with CBC Newsworld, Radio-Canada and CBC Country Canada, will tell all of the compelling stories of guts, glory and determination from Turin. All combined, CBC will broadcast more than 480 hours of English-language coverage of TORINO 2006 - THE OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES, with CBC Television providing 304 hours, CBC Newsworld airing 125 hours, CBC HD offering 39 hours and CBC Country Canada providing 20 hours of live coverage. For French viewers, Radio-Canada will broadcast 225 hours of coverage of TORINO 2006 - THE OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES. CBC will also produce an additional 21 hours of unique Olympics content tailored specifically for mobile phones.
See the whole article HERE Phew!

CBC coverage is the best! My husband is switching the Opening Ceremonies and then the Brian Williams portion of the rest of the games!

Everyone enjoy! I know I will leave my TV on to catch all the events!

GO CANADA GO!!! :cheer2: pixiedust: :cheer2: pixiedust: :cheer2: pixiedust:
