As some of you know, I went back to college in my late 30s. I graduated in May and I got my first teaching position late August. I am very fortunate and I really love it. I have a great group of kids and a lot of support at work.

But, I think I have hit my peak- I am exhausted. I am just going to whine a bit here ;) but I leave for work at 7am and return home at 5pm. I usually have plans, grading, etc to do at home as well. I have two busy teenagers and DH usually doesn't get home from his job until 8:30 pm.

As I mentioned, I LOVE my job and I am SO very lucky to have it having just graduated. What I need is some suggestions to gain some energy back. I get home and I am both physically and mentally exhausted. I am hoping that it is the time of year. We have no breaks from January to Easter, grades just went out, and testing is in a few weeks. It has been a long cold winter too. We had a few warm days and I got a burst of energy but that was lost when the cold breeze and rain started back up.

I hope I don't sound ungrateful for what I have-I really love what I am doing! I just need a "boost of energy!"

Could you be anemic? Perhaps you should share this information with your physician and let him/her decide if it is simply exhaustion or if there is a medical reason behind it. Just a thought.

Good luck to you.

dumboiu-that has been in the back of my mind. IF I didn't like my job or had a major stress related situation at home, I would understand why I was so tired, but it is the opposite. I enjoy my job and have a great family. :) :D :)

I would make some time to exercise. If you do not have an at home treadmill, equipment, it might be usefull to go to a near by gym just for a few day sessions to get your brain boosted. This always helps me a ton! It clears things up and helps me to think better and sleep.

I agree, talk to your dr and see if you have a problem like anemia that needs to be treated.

If not, how's your diet? Are you exercising? Coming from someone who almost never gets enough rest and is always tired, the diet and exercise have proven to be very important to me.

Also, how are you sleeping? Are you getting *good* sleep at night? Even if you're not getting "enough", what is the quality of what sleep you're getting?

Maybe the weather is making you feel exhausted, too. A good breath of Spring should revive you. Hope you are feeling better soon.

I don't have any advice, but I will tell you my SIL is a teacher and she says this exact same thing EVERY year at this time. And she LOVES her job. So hopefully you'll feel better knowing you aren't the only teacher out there feeling this way!

Not to push you on the bandwagon, but when I stopped eating huge amounts of carbohydrates at breakfast and lunch and started eating more protein and a few healthy carbs like whole wheat bread, I got a ton of energy back.

That and exercise have now got me down to a size 6, which is 15 pounds less than when I got pg with my DS 3 years ago.

I agree with the above advice but something that helps me is
vitamin B...I usually pick up the bottle at Sams that has all of the B's in it...I can't believe the energy I have and if I am coming down with something I just take those and don't get sick.

Good luck....I'm trying to exercise but it makes me more tired! lol

Karen, no advice here, but am sending a  and some energy-enhanced pixie dust :wizard: to a fellow Central Pennsylvanian!

Hope you're feeling better soon! :sunny:

Hi Karen,

I have been so tired too this year and found that just recnetly I have low thyroid and am also anemic.

My energy is starting to return with iron pills and thryoid pills.

I wish I had had these things checked sooner.

Good luck,

herc.

Thanks for the replies. :)

Here is the plan- I just went out and bought a good multi vitamin that contains a B complex, iron, and many others. It is Centrum Performance. I also grabbed some high protien snacks such as sunflower seeds to snack on instead of various candy. I have a 5 day break from work beginning Thursday, 3 of those days will be a nice get away with DH and DSs!! If this doesn't gain me some energy (it gives me about 8 days) then it is off to the doctor!

Karen

Sounds like a good plan...healthy eating and fun times.
Take care...

Mystery Machine:...they work for me!...they are just Members mark and are the B complex. I really notice a difference when I take them.
