In-laws coming for 5 days?

We are staying at the BLT for seven nights...My in-laws are coming for four nights...

Do I need to add them to my reservation? I will have extra room keys because my kids are to young to use them...

My family of four will be on the dining plan and I know my in-laws cannot be because they will not be there for the entire stay...Will adding them on to the room mess up my dining plan? They know they have to pay cash for their meals, so I am not worried about them using our credits...I am just worried that DVC is not going to let us have the dining plan for 4 staying the whole time and not for the 2 that will be there for a few days.

Above and beyond that, what type of accomodations, does the villa allow for 6 people. Also, no name on the resrvation, no room key, no way for them to use EMH etc.

Current policy, and probably State law, is that all persons staying in a room must be registered.

The DDP policy is that all persons in a room must be on the same dining plan for the entire length of stay. That means that you will have to buy the DDP for everyone for 7 nights.

The DDP was not designed to work with the way many DVCers vacation, with guests coming and going. It was designed as a convenient "all inclusive" type package for cash guests.

The rules as as Disneynutz stated. All guests MUST be registered on the reservation, and all guests must have the DDP for the entire length of stay. It is either all or nothing for the DDP.

If those rules don't work for you on this trip, it may be best to not do the DDP.

We are in the same boat as you. We're going for seven nights and my niece is joining us for four. We had to get the DDP for the three of us for all seven nights. We'll be able to use the extra table service credits by going to Signature restaurants, but I really doubt we'll be able to use the extra counter service credits. Really, how much can you eat? It's just the price we have to pay for the convenience of the plan and it's worth it to me to have the meals prepaid.

This is not a DVC policy -- it's a fundamental requirement of Disney Dining. Everyone in the room has to have DDP for the entire length of stay, or nobody has DDP.

Having everyone in the room registered is also not a DVC policy -- it's either a Disney-wide policy or state law (not sure which).

One way around this is to split your reservation, which you may not be able to do because of availability. You could get a one-bedroom for your part of the stay and then move to a two-bedroom while your inlaws are there. Even doing that, everyone would either have DDP or not if you're in the same room.

The other way is to just put them in a studio during their visit. That way they could get DDP or not, whichever they prefer. Again, subject to availability, of course.

The other option - if you qualify - is to purchase a TiW card and get a 20% discount on food and beverage at most table service outlets. That card is good for up to 10 diners at any one meal.

We are all going to Mickey's Backyard BBQ...We were going to OOP because it is 2 credits so now we have extra credits for that...

PS-now we will have tons of snack credits to bring home some yummy treats to keep Disney with us for a few more days

If CS is what works for you, that's fine. You may want to consider getting the regular DDP and possibly using some 2 credit options for part of the trip to eat up the extra credits. Part of my reasoning is that I suspect you'll have plenty of CS credits in this situation with the higher plan and will have more options. But ultimately it comes down to how you'll dine. Another option is to get separate units and get the DDP for one and not the other or even different plans for one over the other. More points but more privacy and other dining plan options at a lower cost.

here's a question for you- we always get a two BR villa. once we inquired about the wine and dine package and they said that we would be able to get 1 or 2 packages because our 2 BR unit was counted as 2 rooms. Why would it be that way for the wine and dine and not the regular dining plans? Just curious.

Don't believe that. Unless you are getting two separate reservations - one a studio and one a one bedroom.

I think that you may have been given incorrect information. I would double check with Disney before making future plans.

I actually called on that twice last year and was told it twice....but honestly, that doesn't mean that it was correct information, we've gotten misinformation twice before...

At the time, I thought it made sense- let's be honest, a group staying in a 2 BR villa is probably large enough to require more than 1 bottle of wine a night!

Our guests aren't definite yet but I think if they do become definite, TIW may be the way to go.

The wine is an add on package. You'd have to get the Dining plan for each person in the entire villa for each night of the stay. You might be able to add more than one wine package in the situation you described but would still have to have the DDP for all.
