I don't know my in-laws all that well...we live across country from them and see them every few years. They are much older than my parents, that is to say I have no ideas for what to get them for Christmas.

I am looking for suggestions for gifts for 75 year olds...any ideas?

We got my parents and in-laws a subscription to Netflix for the year. They both LOVE this gift. My parents don't know how to watch the movies instantly, but they know how to create a list on the computer and get and receive movies by mail. My in-laws know how to watch the movies instantly and how to order them by mail.

Not sure if they have a computer and/or can use it.

Another idea could be to get them "fruit of the month"? My parents got this one year from a friend and enjoyed it also.

Hope this helps.

Most people that age don't want 'stuff". Netflix is a great suggestion if they don't have it already. If they like to go out or travel, gift cards to a restaurant, theater, etc. near them is a good idea. I know my MIL got some new towels, dish cloths, etc. one year for Christmas and LOVED that because they are practical things that she needed.

Where do they shop, where do they eat, or hobbies? Are they active? Most 75yo's I know are on the go volunteering and my MIL recently got a job at her doctor's office. They are 72.

My mom loves gift cards to Michaels and my dad is into bass fishing in senior tournaments.

Both of them would like some framed pics with us in them. But then my mom is into scrapbooking and likes pics.

Not sure how much you want to spend, but my in-laws recently received a Keurig coffee maker and LOVE it. They never drink the same things, so it works out very well for them. I believe they run about $100-$150 depending on the model. Sam's Club and Costco usually have packages that include a lot of coffee also.

We do a "lite Fruit of the Month Club" from Harry and David for my In-laws. They get about 6 pieces of really nice fruit each month delivered to them. We've done it for two years now, because its something they actually use and like.

Not sure if you have kids or not, but we always get a professional photo of our dd and put it in a really nice frame. They love this gift and love to hang the pictures in their family room.

Just saw your user name, so I guess you have 2 girls!!

Since you only see them every few years, they may appreciate a beautifully framed family portrait instead of just the kids. You can even do it youself with a camera with a timer or if you dress up to go out to dinner, have someone take a photo of the family with a nice backdrop.

Do they like to eat out? Maybe getting them a restaurant gift card would be a nice idea (if you know what restaurant they like to eat at or might like to eat at).

Gift cards to their grocery store.

Thanks for all the ideas. We do need to get new family pictures...I'm sure they'd love that. I also love the Keurig idea!

I would definitly do something that can be used up. My mom is 74 and loves to read and watch movies. You would think that buying her movies or books would be the best choice. NO. She watches movies on Lifetime and goes to the library. She has a house full of stuff and doesn't want to add to it.

Fruit of the Month sounds intriguing though or maybe a basket with an assortment of hot chocolates, some kind of cakes and warm fuzzy socks.

My in-laws are getting a GC to a steak place that my fil loves.

I refuse to buy anything except gift cards for DFIL (76). He always complains about the slippers/watch/etc. that I searched high and low for that would meet his criteria - so no more!

He is spending 2 months in Orlando this winter (DMIL passed away a few years ago :( and we're giving him gift cards to his favorite restaurants in Orlando. I'll buy 4 $25 GCs (and tuck them into a little gift - food item, etc) and he'll enjoy going out for dinner. I'm also considering framing a picture of his little dog if I can find a good photo.

His favorite TV show is Judge Judy - 2 years ago, I sent for an autographed picture of her and framed it. I am now the favorite DIL and it was the least expensive gift ever LOL!

Adding another suggestion to the photo of the grandkids or a family photo...

What about a personalized calendar? You would then be able to have a variety of pics (i.e. one for each month) and they could be photos, scans of the art work etc.

My grandparents LOVED these when we had pics of the great-grandkids in them. We also knew we were doing this, so we tried to have at least 1 pic of a greatgrandparent with one of the great grands. My all time favorite was my grandpa (long after he stopped driving) in a new sports car (Mustang if I recall correctly) with my nephew. I'm thinking it was at a car show.
