order off the kids menu at sit down restaurants or is that frowned upon? We are not on the dining plan. It will be just dd (12) and I and we both prefer smaller portions and are really picky. Plus, she is a vegetarian. Sorry if this had been asked a million times...

In our experience, we've been able to order for our 11 year old off the child's menu in most cases. I've never tried, but I don't think they'd let you both order kids' meals. If you wanted the food that's there, they may be able to somehow charge you more for something of an "adult" portion. Your best bet if you like the same things is going to be to split an adult entree in my opinion. That's what DH & I do when we want a smaller portion and perhaps want to also get an appetizer or dessert.
