My son has food allergies so I am bringing our meals along on the flight. But for entertainment... has anyone rented one of the digEplayers? It's $10.00 on Alaska Air. They highly recommend pre-booking because they are available on a "limited basis". They show about ten movies (three not available yet on DVD), several TV shows, cartoons, or play music. Is it worth it for the 6 hour flight from Seattle with a 9 year old? When we went last year I bought him a couple of handheld games, hangman and one other. I won't "do" Gameboys or those kind of electronic toys. So, has anyone rented one of the inflight players and if so would you do it again? :listen:

I have not rented an inflight movie player - but I would consider it for sure. When DD 9 was younger we brought play doh, markers, paper, glitter clue, crayons, etc... kids on the plane loved the people sitting in our seats hahahahahah.... kids were passing play doh back and forth... I am sure the stewardesses thought different.

I just bought a PSP - DD is entranced - it plays video games with exceptionally high quality, but it also plays music files, and video files, and has a mini DVD player for movies... very cool gadget. I was thinking about buying a small portable DVD player - now that we have this one gadget does all I probably won't by the DVD player.

If my DD was a DS and he is rapidly bored or hard to entertain for hours upon hours then I would for sure rent the DVD player

We were on a red-eye flight from Seattle to Orlando and they just asked everyone on the plane if they would like to rent one. I would recommend pre-booking one just in case. I wish I had rented one for our flight because they seemed to keep people entertained for such a long flight. The person in the row next to me had one and the picture was very clear. I really recommend renting one for your son. :flower:

You might get more replies on the Transportation Board but I'll chip in with my 2 cents.

10 bucks sounds like a bargain and I'd pre-book it. Can you imagine if a boy across the aisle had one and he didn't? :sad2: He'd be sitting there practically drooling.

For a 6 hour flight, I wouldn't even think twice about it. That is a LONG time for a 9 year old to sit.

I have a Sony PSP, they have just released a few more movies this week (bringing the total to a dizzying 6!) However considering my DS age (4) it is just not for him (probably not for a 9 year old either to be honest)... Most of the games and movies are really not age appropriate. I did get one of those videonow devices. They had them on special at Target a month or so back. Our flight time is relatively short (2 hours), so this is pretty perfect. Plus he can use it at the resort if he really needs to. I think the media system on Alaskan air is probably a good idea, $10 is worth every penny if your child has something to occupy himself with. Personally I like a good stack of magazines, a novel, a WDW guidebook and sometimes my iPod!

Here is a cheap tip. We discovered the "20 Q" game at Wal-Mart. It is about the same size as a tennis ball (maybe smaller) and what you do is think of an object (Amimal. Vegetable or mineral) and it asks you questions to try to guess what you are thinking. (Like 20 questions, get it?) This thing is pretty cool and it is less than $10.

My bf bought the PSP. He figured how to download/record tv shows on it, so we are going to download a few episodes of our favorite tv shows on it and watch them on the flight. I bought a headphone splitter the other day.

We usually rent the DigEplayer when we fly Alaska. I have noticed they usually run out of players and people that did not pre-book go without.

One tip, we bought a $6 splitter at radio shack and brought along another head set. Then you two can watch movies while your 9 yr old sleeps!
