In Every Run That Must Be Done; There is an Element of Fun (comments welcome)

25 Days Until: Wine & Dine Weekend

I did a lunch break run today so I’d be available to help cook dinner tonight. I also rearranged all the weekday runs this week due to weird weather. Tomorrow is going to be 80°F and windy, so I really didn’t want to do my tempo run then, so I moved that to Thursday, when it’s only going to be 47°, and moved Thursday’s slightly shorter easy run to today (because of the lunch break time constraints) and today’s slightly longer easy run to tomorrow. I’m going to run on the Luce Line tomorrow, so there should be shade and maybe a windbreak compared to running in the neighborhood.

Today’s run was good, but my heart rate was getting a little high, possibly because I was a little warm. I should’ve worn a short sleeve shirt, but I’ve been chilly lately so I had opted for long sleeves. Fall is confusing! 😂😂

Flit is just about the only chipmunk coming out on a regular basis right now—the others have been gathering from me for so much longer that they can afford to stay in if they don’t like the weather. I did see Fern tonight after work, but she was in a bad mood and bit me, so I didn’t take any pictures of her.

There’s also a new chipmunk that’s been thinking about visiting me, but isn’t 100% sure I’m not dangerous.

Your skeleton costume is amazingly awesome! It actually sort of gives me cognitive dissonance looking at it!:rotfl2:

24 Days Until: Wine & Dine Weekend

Pretty uneventful run after work today. I didn’t realize until I got home afterward that there was an air quality alert for my area, but that might explain why my heart rate was a little out of step with where I felt my effort level was. It was super super windy, but it was mostly cross-wise to me, so it didn’t bother me too much.

I bought 2 new pairs of shoes from Amazon today (but I got a free gift card from work that covered all of one pair and part of the second). One pair of Guide 15s, in Sunstone (otherwise known as peachy-orange 😁) and one pair of Guide 14s, in Concord (otherwise known as purple 😁)

Because of the wind, the chipmunks were all in hiding, except for one brief encounter with Rocky. But he wouldn’t come to me for food.

It totally was! Chipmunks have very sharp teeth, but also very narrow, so the kind of bites I get are usually like deep paper cuts, or cardboard cuts, and heal pretty quickly.
That's good! I made the mistake of both feeding wild kittens and then picking them up. It took me two kitten bites to really learn my lesson. They have such strong bites for being so little! And when I was away, I had my friend's teenage daughter watch my indoor cats and said "dont try and pick up the feral kittens they bite" But she too could not resist their cute faces and was also bit. Lucky neither of us got infected.

21 Days Until: Wine & Dine Weekend

So, it was 80°F on Tuesday, and this is what I woke up to today:

I was supposed to run yesterday, but I had to get up at 3:15am to drive to the airport, and then I needed to run to the hardware store after work and I just didn’t feel like wedging a run into all that, so I switched it to today. Thankfully, it stopped snowing, and it all melted by the time I got off work. I was apparently very fast today. I was wondering if the GPS was being wonky, but I was hitting the miles at about the right locations, so I was maybe just particularly fast today.

In further weird weather pictures, these shots were taken 5 minutes apart. The first was on the street near my house, and the second was through my living room window, looking at the backyard.

The weather has been too cold and windy for chipmunks, so I’ve been entertaining myself by scattering peanuts on the patio for all the little birds (and the occasional squirrel), but they all fly (or run) away if I approach for a picture.

20 Days Until: Wine & Dine Weekend

I had a busy day! After breakfast, I ran to Target, where I saw something odd and hilarious in the parking lot:

After I got home and had lunch, I finished construction on one of my many projects: a new medal display! My favorite medals will go on the old display, but most of them will hang here.

I decided to do the Katrina Lake Loop for my 5 mile run today to get a little walking in too. It was nice in the beginning, but about halfway through the run, the sun disappeared and the wind picked up and it got a little chilly, especially once I got to the cooldown walk.

The fall color is just past the overall dazzling point, but there are still pops of brightness to be found.

I forgot to add that I tried out my new Aftershokz Aeropex Minis today (got a great Prime deal). They were really impressive. It was a little weird to have something so insubstantial delivering that much sound. I could hear everything (except when there was a train nearby, but that’s understandable, and a very rare occurrence)

I like your medal rack! You need to post a photo when you've got your medals arranged on it.

I am trying to figure out what is in the car in the first photo - a skull with a viking hat with horns? Maybe my imagination is weirder than reality!

That’s exactly what’s in the car 😄😄

I made butterscotch cookies yesterday! They have sea salt on top.

It was cold and windy today, so I decided to wait until after dark to do my run because the wind was forecasted to die down a bit (10mph is better than 20, especially when it’s a north wind). I got all decked out in safety gear, including throwing a loose, light-colored tank over my cold weather pullover. I had some random green lights that I turned into arm bands for a little extra brightness, since there are no sidewalks or streetlights in my neighborhood, and I figured moving green lights would make me even more noticeable than the relatively stable red light on my back. And I was obviously very noticeable from the front 😆😆

I had to really watch my pacing to avoid going way too fast, but managed to keep the miles fairly even. I wore my new Saucony Guide 14s, and they felt really good.

An interesting thing I’ve noticed since my races 2 weeks ago: my VO2Max has jumped up about a point, so that’s good news, I guess.

I got my “Sunstone” Guide 15s this weekend, and I was also reorganizing all my clothes, and realized that I have a full orange outfit now. I’ll have to figure out some costume that needs me to be orange (that isn’t Nemo or his dad because I was never a big fan of Finding Nemo)

While I haven’t gotten my big medal rack filled up yet, I did fill up the old display. The top row are the medals from my PR races (technically, I haven’t run the Hot Chocolate 15K yet, but it’ll be my first 15K, so it’s a guaranteed PR, and I wanted to hang it up to get the spacing right). The other 2 rows are medals that I’m particularly fond/proud of.
