In DIS Public Profiles - What Does "Referrals" Mean?

Just wondering. It says "Referrals" and then a number. What's that about?

I thought I'd read that it was part of the vBulletin software that the DIS doesn't use. But, then I've seen some people who have a number of referrals.

If someone signs up, there's a place where it asks them if someone referred them. If they put you down, you get the referral. At least I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

I always thought it was how many times a particular poster told another poster to get off the internet and call a real doctor instead of asking a bunch of us who don't have a clue.
