one of those "shoe hangers" to go on the back of the door - or is there plenty of counter space - considering the kids can have one sink in part of the bathroom & we can have the other sink in the other part of the bathroom/????????????

I have never taken one and personally have never seen the need for one. There are three of us and we have plenty of room in the bathrooms for our stuff. :)

I wasn't planning on bringing one with us in May (there are 4 of us in a Cat 8) but I may bring it anyway-for shoes! Last time we sailed there were only two of us and now that all four of us are going I don't want to be tripping over the kids shoes. I remember the closet being full with our shoes since you could only use the floor of half the closet (there is something that the safe sits on top of but I can't remember what it was). There is plenty of drawer space in the desk for things like extra film, meds, etc.

I have never understood the shoe holder thing and have not done it on three previous Disney nor two "other" cruiselines.,. don't intend on taking one next time either.

I brought one and did not need it at all. There was ample space for all our stuff. I left it on the ship rather than schlep it home, bigh waste of $5.

We stayed in a Cat 8, and found our over the door shoe holder VERY VALUABLE! ...for shoes! Between water shoes, sneakers, sandals, dress shoes, etc for the three of us it was a great way to keep our cabin somewhat organized!

My DW initially dismissed my suggestion of the shoe-holder (which I picked up from this list), but gave in and bought one to avoid a divorce (we only argue over really important stuff like this).

After about the first hour on board, she became a convert and takes the darn thing where ever we go (St. Francis, St. Regis, St. Whatever). No, it's not essential, but it sure is handy to have stuff just there to grab on the way in and out of the room (walkie-talkies, cameras, sun screen, and maybe even shoes).

With two kids (ages 10 and 8 on our first cruise), I can't imagine going without it. It greatly reduced the clutter in the room - we used it for:

books
cameras
film
sunglasses
sunscreen
key to the world cards
shoes on the bottom row
hairbrushes, combs (there isn't that much counter space in the bathrooms)
hairspray, styling and hair stuff

we found it very convenient. If it were just DH and I, not needed. But with the kids too - definitely - and if the seas aren't too smooth, the holder will help hold small items :)

I have seen online the ones for around $18 -- where did you find one for only $5?

I think I could use one -- I was so sick of not having any open space on the desk or above the drawers.

Been in cat 8 both times and didnt bring the shoe holder thingy and didnt miss having it. I thought there was quite a bit of shelf space in the bathrooms. Sounds like some people make good use of them though.

TRY WALMART OR K-MART, I GOT MINE AT WAL-MART. ALSO TRY FAMILY DOLLAR OR BIG LOTS, THEY HAVE THEM CHEAP THERE TOO.

Took it,, never unpacked it, and won't take it next time. In the bathrooms there is a counter top, a shelf under the countertop and triangular shelves in the corner to hold even more stuff. I am NOT a light packer and pretty much dump everything from my bathroom ino huge zip lock bags and take it along for trips....and even I didn't run out of space.

We took it on our last two cruises and I found it helpful. It's great for the little things like suntan lotion, nail clippers, sun glasses etc. I know it helped us stay organized.

Having said that there is a lot of space in the bathrooms as well. What I found was the bathroom with the most space (the one one with the toilet) is not where I need things (like shampoo and shower gel) so i put those in the over the door hanger as well and hung it on the shower room door.

I haven't been on the cruise yet but thought the idea sounded good. Our family of 6 stays in hotels every year (visiting family in PA) and our stuff gets everywhere! I found shoe bags at the dollar store and bought 2. They fold flat and I figure for one dollar each and the fact that they fold flat, I can afford to gamble on their worth. You get what you pay for and mine may not hold shoes forever (probably will tear) but may make it for one trip--heck, I can throw them away for what they cost me!

Target, $4.99. They were in the section with all the storage gizmos and the ironing board covers & stuff.

Frankly, whether you need one or not depends on a)how much stuff you bring and b)your personal tolerance for clutter. I happen to have a very high threshold, I think. :D

Also, I use a hanging, zippered cosmetic bag, so everything for the bathroom is already in one place and can be hung on a hook, towel rack, etc... Since I travel every week, it never gets unpacked.

I LOVED the idea!! We hung it so it was on the outside of a bathroom door, that way if somone was inside we could still get a lot of our stuff. It doesn't take up much space in the bottom of the suit case. And if I take a vacation anywhere for an extended stay, I'll bring it along. It was so handy!
