Roger and I are now officially engaged.

Cool, Congratulations! I was wondering.

lilmermaid, we're going to go look either this weekend or next weekend. I don't want a diamond (I'm not the traditional type...don't like diamonds all that much, like wildflowers better than roses, etc.)

:D Congratulations! Maybe you can do an engagement ring in your birthstone?

Congratulations!

How did your family take the news? Are they color blind yet?

RUDisney, I'm still not talking to my dad but my mom's very happy for me.
Vald, I'm an April baby so that doesn't work LOL

COngratulations! How long have you been seeing him now? Not that it matters, because DH and I started dating in 1993, when we were 15, and he told me one week in that he was going to marry me. And, well, we have been together 10 years, married for 3, so there you go :)

Best of luck to you and Roger!

Also, I am not a diamond girl, either. My engagement ring was the birthstone of the month we got engaged (February). It is a big amethyst with 2 TINY TINY TINY diamonds on the side. Maybe since you got engaged in May, you could do an Emerald....

One more thing -

I really hope all your family comes around. I just do not understand how in this day and age anyone can still be so racist!!!! Come on now, you know? We all bleed the same color. It is just sad, just plain sad.

Minnesota, that's a cool idea and I love emeralds. I was also thinking of a pearl because I love pearls.
As far as how long we have been dating, it's been about 7 months. We've known each other for almost 2 1/2 years, though.
As far as the family thing, my dad is the only one who won't come around. Everyone else is wonderful.

congrats!!

my hubby told his mother right after we had first met that he had just met the woman he was going to marry...that was back in 1988!!! it took us a long time to get here, but we are now happily married...we'll be married one year in september, but it really feels as if we've been together forever...:)

Congratulations! How exciting. I think sapphires make pretty rings :)

It's too bad about your dad.

We were at an interracial wedding on May 3rd. The groom's step-dad was really pleased that Kurtis was so readily accepted into a white family. When step-dad started dating, and later married his DW, his family was not as supportive because she is black.

Whatever.

A funny thing about this family is that the grandmother is married to Bill, the mother is married to Bill and his sister is dating Bill. We were teasing Kurtis that his new wife's middle name MUST be Bill, too.

It would be a hard choice for me to decide on a ring between an emerald and a sapphire. As an FYI, I love pearl rings, but my experience with them is that they chip over time because of their soft nature. For your "forever" ring, choose something durable. For an anniversary, choose a pearl.;)

hmmm...this is one April baby who loves her diamonds. Nothing sparkles like a well cut diamond!

What is Roger's birthstone? Maybe you can get a ring made out of his birthstone.

Lilmermaid, his birthday is 12 days after mine but his is in May, so his birthstone is an emerald.

Congratulations, Honeywolf!
I second what RUDisney said about pearls. Although they are beautiful, they are a softer stone and don't do as well if you're planning to wear it every day. Although I'm like lil mermaid and I love diamonds, I decided to forgo getting an engagement ring when I got engaged. Since I had been married before I wanted my wedding band to be the important ring and told my DH I'd rather him give me a big diamond ring on our 10th anniversary when it would really mean so much more. (Which he did). But, for my wedding ring, we had designed a small gold wedding band with one small emerald in the middle, surrounded by two small diamonds. After 13 years of marriage, I am stopped all the time be people admiring my "small" ring. It's very special and unique. So, think what would be special and unique for you and Roger. And, of course, let us know!
