In August The Rebels Are Gearing Up for Race Season!

Jane- SO EXCITED FOR YOU AND YOUR 1st 1/2!!!:banana::banana:
didn't sound like it went exactly how you wanted but hey you DID FINISH!!! That is so inspiring to me!

To help with the Plantar fasciitis freeze a water bottle and roll your foot over the top of it! I find this helpful, you ice and stretch it at the same time!

Congrats AGAIN on completing you first 1/2!!!

(p.s. sorry I'm so late in congratulating you!)

James- How did the Abe's Amble go? Are you feeling better? You are right to choose health over mileage!

Mike- I did not make it to 10 miles, I stopped at 6.5 due to the heat and humidity! I started at 6am and it was 90% humidity and already 78 degrees! I called it good at the 6.5 and am happy I listened to my body! I did like the Vanilla Gu! I still have a chocolate one to try too! You are crazy to run in a thunderstorm! But I assume it was also kind of fun in a rebellious sort of way! Maybe I'll go crazy enough to say the M word for 2012, the verdict is still out on that one, better get my first 1/2 under my belt before I make any rash decisions!

Stacie- Sorry you can't run yet, I know that must be frustrating. I'm happy to hear you are listening to your dr, your PT and your body and not running, working in a PT clinic I see TOO many patients who go running anyway and just prolong their recovery! Keep up at the bike and the exercises. If you are looking for some good cardio that doesn't involve running, ask you PT if they have an Arm Bike, or Upper Body Cycle. They provide a killer cardio workout without involving your lower extremities! Keep us updated! when do you see the Dr. next?

AFM- Oh wow! I seem to have forgotten how the internet works......lol. I don't have a good excuse for my absence, just checked out for a while I guess . I have been doing ok with my workouts. I did 6.5 miles 2 weeks ago instead of my planned 10 but was listening to my body and with the heat and humidity we were having I called it quits! I have been keeping up with my workouts during the week but haven't done any long mileage since then.

My sister had her baby on the 10th and I've been spending most of my free time over there! She is the first baby in the family so we are all captivated by her every move, however small it may be! I did take her out for a walk in her stroller yesterday and she LOVED it! was awake and aware the WHOLE time just looking at everything! I can't wait to take my new buddy out more often and get her hooked on staying healthy!

I am thinking of finding a Fall 10K to help me transition into my training for the WDW 1/2. I'm debating from one in my back yard, or one at the University of Michigan. Both have their pros and cons- back yard is close, however in only 3 weeks, U of M is 6 weeks away, however a 1.5 hour drive from my house.... decisions decisions!

I hope everyone is doing well and can't wait to hear all of your updates!

Keep on moving!

Hello Everyone!!

I had a WONDERFUL walk this morning!! When I left my house it was 58 degrees and chilly!!! I could see my breath!!! SOOOO HAPPY!! Looks like the heat is gone here for a few days! I'm going to take it all in while I can!

We have a company golf outing today and that should be interesting......of my 4 some only 2 of us have golfed, and that is if you count my 1 attempt last year!:rotfl: Oh well! We made matching outfits so at least if we don't win we are gonna look good!! That's what matters most right? lol

Have a great day everyone! I hope the heat is breaking where you are too!

Hi Rebels - I've been missing for a little bit, but catching up now.

Thank you to everyone for my congrats on the race! You guys are right, I'm totally a half marathoner.

I've been sidelined since the Bronx half. Saw my doctor on Tuesday. I have PF.:sad2: But he said that I could run through it, as long as it doesn't hurt while I'm running. So off to the store i went, got some pretty fabulous new kicks, and some orthotics. The Dr. recommended some stretches and aleve twice a day. Said I shouldn't have any problems doing the Wine N Dine half and that we're going to be ok getting this under control. So i'm psyched. It rained yesterday so I didn't get to run, but it's beautiful here today so I'm definitely going to take my new sneakers for a spin tonight. Heel feels great since i've been following the doc's orders.

James - so glad you are listening to your body. How was Abe's Amble?

Mike - Can't wait to hear about your rehearsal race. Love that your wife is already saying the M word. I started that about my third week of training. I had second thoughts about doing a marathon though at the end of the Bronx. But I have plenty of time to flip flop on the issue. Here's some pixie dust for great weather for your half. :wizard:

Stacie I'm sorry to hear about your injury. That must be incredibly frustrating and painful. Hopefully you'll be cleared soon and you can walk the relay in and recover at the same time.

Nikki - Congrats on the baby. That's a great reason to be away from us Rebels. Did you decide which 10K to do? You've already trained way beyond that mileage so this should be easy for you. I'm glad you are having super cool weather. We're not quite as cool as you are but the temps have been lower than normal. After the 4 days of rain we had, I'll take whatever sunshine we can get here.

Have a great Thursday Rebels! I'll be back reporting on my run tonight.

Hi Rebels, I thought I better check in!

Nikki and Jane – I had a blast walking the Abe’s Amble. Not the fastest I have walked finish time wise, but I did show some surprising speed at the end and did get some much needed race experience.

Hey All, here is the race report on my personal blog (Click Here).

Jane – Darn that PF, anyway half marathoner, take care of that foot.

Nikki – Sounds like training is going well, keep up the good work! BTW, Congrats!

Mike – This racing sure can be addictive. ;)

AFM – The Abe’s Amble sure did put some pep in my step again. I am back to formal training this week and hopefully I will get my scheduled, if not much needed, mileage in. My health has been a real drag, but I am been watching it closely so I do make myself sick, yet be able to efficiently train. Dang it, I want to be a marathon walker!!!

Wow, I can’t believe it, week 19 of 24 in my marathon training. Woo hoo, I think I have done well considering all the crap I have endured. I guess kudos for me. He He!

I wish you all good training this week and take care of your selves. Go Rebels!!!

Jane- Sorry to hear you were sidelined! I hope things are feeling better!

James- Great job on the Abe's Amble! Nice race report!

AFM- I had fun at my golf outing! I won the shortest putt missed and the longest putt sank awards! Go figure! I found out my golfing is very inconsistent!

I got a nice little walk in this morning just to stretch my legs a bit! Felt great! The weather here is still amazing! Not planning on it lasting very long, but I am enjoying it while I can!

Happy Friday Rebels!!! :woohoo:

Hey Nikki, I am not sure you wanted advice on the 10K race thing, but I think it would be helpful to pick the one that has the biggest turnout. That way you can get use to the bigger crowds, because WDW ½ is going to be big.

AFM - Nothing to report at the moment, just getting mentally ready to tackle 20 miles this weekend.

Have a great weekend Rebels!

Nicki Why choose? 3 weeks between 10ks is plently of time to recover and run annother. Otherwise I'd say go with the one that is a little trip and somepace new. Enjoy the experience.

Jane Saw a girl at the ballpark with a "Will run for magraritas" T-shirt. Made me think of your plans for Wine & Dine.

Has anyone heard from Katie recently?

Tapering this weekend, only 6 miles, not sure what to do with myself.

Mike

Mike

OMG - I neeeeeedddd that shirt. It is so true. Right now I don't run at all though. But the good news, is I can still have margaritas. (insert smiley drinking frosty margarita with umbrella here).

Well, I was cleared to run but when I went out last week the heel started hurting almost immediately. didn't want to risk injury so I stopped. Good news though. Last night I tried running on the treadmill, thinking that the impact would be less than running on the streets and i was able to get 30 minutes in no problem. :cool1: I finally feel like me again. I could have gone longer, but taking it easy so I can recover and really get through the Wine N Dine. I haven't run on a treadmill in about 8 years so that was new for me. But I'll take whatever small victories I can get.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Hi All,
Sorry I have been MIA on this board. Things in my life just seem to be crazy enough that I don't have time to post and read anymore. But I wanted to drop in and say that I am still here, and I am glad to be a part of this team!

I will report back next week with a race report from the Disneyland Half. I think I am going to try something different this year and try to stick with my DH for the whole race. It will be something of an adventure. We have totally opposite styles, but he wanted to try. Hopefully it doesn't end with us hating each other. I am a walker, but a fast walker, he is a run/jogger. So he slows me down when we walk, and I can't keep up walking. So my idea for this race is to have fun and take pictures and not worry about time (since I didn't really train very well anyway).

I will let you know how it goes :confused3

Manda - Welcome back! Hope you have a great Disneyland Half. Bring us some pictures please!!! It'll give me a little fix while I'm waiting to get down to WDW for the Wine & Dine Half. Good luck running with your husband!

I'm sure Andrea will start a september thread soon, but just wanted to check in. I cross trained last night. did 45 minutes of bike riding. What I discovered is that it must stretch my calves out b/c this morning i had NO pain from my plantar fasciitis. So exciting. Going to get in another 30 minutes on treadmill tonight, take tomorrow off and perhaps 30 minutes biking on Friday. If i can keep this foot feeling well, I might try to get 5 miles in with my group saturday morning. They'll be doing 12 but I'm trying to be careful.

In case i don't check in again, best of luck to everyone with races this weekend, Disneyland and RNR Virginia Beach i think is this weekend. Can't wait to hear all of your reports.

Mike- I am thinking of just doing one because I am starting school this fall and am not sure yet how it will impact my training/traveling abilities with all of the studying I am going to have to be doing.

Jane- Sorry your heel is still bothering you! At least you can keep up some of your training with the Treadmill!

Manda- I hope you have a great race!!! Good luck!!! Let us know how racing together works!! I can't wait to see all of the great pics you are going to get!

Jane- Glad you are finding a good program that is working for you!

AFM- I have been doing good with my walking! I have backed down the distance a bit for a while but am going to start increasing shortly to get ready for a 10K, still not sure which 10K!! I e-mailed the one in my home town to ask if I could walk it and told them my expected finish time (1 hour 30min). They said that I needed to finish in 1h15 minutes in order to not "screw up" the 5K race times........ I'm still thinking about this one because if I put in some running I should be able to finish in the 1h 15min time.......I'm still on the fence.

Hope everyone had a great August!! Here we go into September!

Hey, fellow Rebels. This is your here-in-spirit-but-not-so-here-in-body "team leader." Here is the new thread for September. I will go through everything this weekend and make sure it is up-to-date. In the meantime, to all the Rebels racing this weekend:

Good Luck!!
