Which I'm buying on BF but is going under the tree, I'm sitting here downloading fonts. :)

I'm especially searching for Disney related fonts. :surfweb:

I'm so excited!!

Isn't there something about if you use SCAL w/your cricut it voids the warranty on the cricut? My friend is looking at purchasing SCAL (already has an expression) -- just want her to know before she makes the investment . . .

TIA,
Brenda

That's a very good question! I wonder if the info would be in the manual that comes with the Cricut? I don't have mine yet to check.

yes, any third party software will void your cricut warranty. But I used it anyways, and lots more have to, without any issue.

Provo Craft really doesn't need to know if I used a third party software, adn I never had any intention of telling them.

My E is now out of warranty, so it isn't an issue for me

I'm planning on buying SCAL on Black Friday but I have a question...does it work on a Mac?

It does work on a mac, BUT!!!! You must have updated your Cricut firmware by using the trial version of Cricut Design Studio, which doesn't work on a Mac. So what people do is, one time only, find a PC to hook up their cricut (work, friend's house, etc) or I guess there is some software that will trick your Mac into thinking its a PC.

I have a PC in the house, but it is so old and slow that I'm not sure it will let me download the firmware on it. I might have to think about this a little bit more before I press the BUY button.

Beware! Using SCAL with a Cricut will void the warranty! I have not heard of the software freezing the machine in a long time, but it happened when SCAL was newer. I would be leary to try it on a new machine. If I get the E on Friday I will be keeping my Baby Bug to run SCAL on since it is over 3 years old and the warranty is long gone.

Any third party software will technically void the warranty. That said, SCAL does not install anything at all on your Cricut. This is a computer based program that interacts with your cricut when it is connected to your computer. There is actually no known way to detect the use of SCAL on the machine itself. However, if anyone has concerns I would suggest waiting until the warranty has expired.

When SCAL was first introduced it caused major issues with the machines as well as causing some computer crashes. Since that time the software has been greatly improved and these issues no longer seem to exist (to my knowledge). I currently have SCAL on one of my newest computers that is running Windows Vista 64-bit and have never had any issues at all. In fact, I have never had any problems on any of the computers where SCAL was installed. The nice thing about SCAL is that it is allowed on more than one computer provided that the operating system is the same as the licensed product and only one computer is in use at any time. If you have both a MAC and Windows two different licenses would need to be purchased.

I still use Design Studio for my Cricut Cartridges but I love SCAL and I also use MTC which has really improved the ability to trace images into a cut file.

My Expression and Baby Bug and well outside of the warranty so I really don't have any concerns about using the software but I also installed the software prior to the warranty expiring and did not experience any sort of issues.

My E was outside the warranty when I bought SCAL, but after seeing what it can do, I would have bought and used it anyway. I have had it for almost 2 years and have never ever had a problem with it.

SCAL2 has updated to improve tracing, it's amazing!

so the scal that i want to buy on black friday...is it scal or scal2?
