This question was sent to me as a PM and the DISer allowed me to post it as it applies to everyone.

Question -
ON the scrappbooking board we sometimes have posts where someone has found something on sale at a particular store or website - I have posted these myself from time to time (like - Sizzix web site has some sizzlets alphabets for $45).

Would this be ok or would it be considered an advertisement? Just don't want to start racking up points without realizing what I have done wrong.

Answer -
Not to worry. I consider these friends helping friends. It would be a problem if you owned a scrapbooking store and were advertising your store. Mostly we have problems with crafters who advertise things they make and sell! We have such a great group of DISers on our board, that we rarely have problems. I will always try to warn people before I give point infractions.

How about CMC's and ebayers. Not necessarily posting links but what if they say hey I have yada yada come see my store.

I agreed with someone on Alex's thread about needing some warning before handing out points, we won't know what is right and what is wrong until someone messes up.

One good thing is that we pretty much police ourselves around here so you shouldn't have too much to worry about.

I hope you have it easy over here since we do try to keep ourselves in line. (sometimes ;) )

I do have a ? though. Are we allowed to post things in the general Creative Community board even if it could go on another board. For example, let's say I want to know what everyone's favorite MK ride is. Could I post that ? here or would I need to post it over in the Theme parks board?

This would not be allowed. You cannot self promote things for sale.

This is absolutely fine. Nothing is off topic on the Creative Community Board. :goodvibes

Before we combined boards we had talked about having a house type set up and the general community forum was like the living room. We all tend to get chatty here and go off topic a lot which is why we(DIS'ers) had suggested the living room. Plus some of us never even leave this forum anymore, I know I rarely do. I think that is why it is set up in the current fashion. Which BTW I love!

Re: Ebay...

The collector's board has a sticky that says you can list your ebay ID in your signature, but only your ID, not "check out my store, I have X for sale, etc."

That is fine, you just can't have a link.:)
